From the warm welcome the tone is set for a delightful stay. We had one if the two suites which is a large bedroom sitting area, dressing room/study, large shower room with both indoor and out door showers and terrace.

The food is delicious, and although it is a set menu there is plenty of choice and preferences and allergies are asked about on arrival.

We stayed here for 3 nights but could have stayed for longer as there was plenty to see and do in this beautiful area.
We stayed in a pool villa which was spacious and stylish. The bathroom was absolutely gorgeous. The decor was very tasteful and a lot of thought had gone into the design of this property and then there was the view!
Pirkko had already been very helpful before our arrival making recommendations about other places to stay during our trip and organising a car and driver. We were warmly welcomed and Pirkko sorted out all our trips around the area. Nothing was too much trouble.
The food was superb. The breakfasts were delicious and the dishes served lunch and evening were varied, plentiful and tasty. The service was truly outstanding.
We were fortunate during our trip to Kerala to stay in many lovely properties, however Aanavilasam was definitely the best of all and would recommend it to anyone travelling in this area.
Thanks to Pirkko and all the staff for making our visit so memorable.

WARNING: The price for this accommodation is above the indian average. But do you want to have only the average? You can expect more and you will get much more! Luxury Plantation House - you can take that literally. With only two rooms and two pool villas service and atmosphere is very personal and attentive. It's like a litte dream in the middle of the nature. But be careful: If you want to loose weight this is nothing yor you. Because we had the best indian food during our three weeks south-indian-tour. Don't miss the cooking class just to see how you can mix a few spices with maximum result. And if it's to hot ask Pirko for the "emergency yoghurt".

PS:
If you travel from Aanavilasam to the temple town Madurai the shock will be great ... just try it the opposite and the relaxation will be greater

Room Tip: with only four rooms you realy have to book in advance

Aanavilasam is a hidden gem, deep in the Western Ghats of Kerala. Only four bedrooms so to stay there is an experience that is unique and personal. After the long, grueling and sometimes death defying road trips we experience in India, it is a relief to relax in this oasis of calm and serenity in a cardamom plantation, high above Kumily. If you want cable TV, DVD and other trinkets in your own room, then go to a hotel. Aanavilasam is about tranquility, rest and great food, although the Internet and cable TV is available in the main house so you can stay in touch. We had a wonderful three nights in one of the beautifully appointed villa's with it's own plunge pool and fabulous indoor/outdoor shower. It's 30 minutes up the hill from Kumily, but a still an easy drive to the main gate of Periyar National Park. After the 17km 9 hour "border walk" (strongly recommended) in the Periyar Park, it was fabulous coming back to luxury at Aanavilasam. Pirrko, the manager and staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive and the food was sensational. Booking places in India is very hit and miss, you will not be disappointed with Aanavilasam.

It's a bit like roughing it - in a very luxurious way. The beds are rock hard, there's no TV or AC in the rooms and there's not a decent reading light. The beautiful mood lighting in the bathroom makes it impossible to shave except during bright daylight, and when you do, the perfectly designed sink splashes out every single drop of water. There's no wine, only beer. It some ways it feels like a very stylish monastery.

Room Tip: The regular rooms are right off the main area, making things a little awkward. We stayed in a pool...

A wonderful find, accommodation very stylish, large bedroom, dressing room, bathroom indoor/outdoor, plus kitchenette with own plunge pool overlooking a valley of Cardamom and Pepper trees. Resort has 4 villas with an in house chef who cooks traditional/fusion food of restaurant quality using local produce and spices.

Room Tip: There's 2 villas with their own pools and the other 2 villas are located in the main homestead

Can only echo other 5* reviews. Great place to relax with wow factor. Pirko and her staff are very attentive and caring -you feel well looked after. Very well stocked library and even ground coffee making facilities in room. We had one of the two main building suites with balcony for 3 nights- didn't miss having pool as temperature was never too hot. Plenty of outings if you wish -don't forget to stock up with spices at the nearby town. A great part of a perfect 12 day Itinary by Kerala Connections.

Room Tip: Didn't see other rooms to compare. Main building south corner was sunny.
