Looking at the review on tripadvisor and the hotel website I booked a super deluxe room through a local agent.
On reaching the place I found that it is a small hotel in vicinity of large fairly priced resorts like Cardamom County, Ambadi, Michale's Inn and many more. I reaching there was informed beaming by the front desk that i had a delux room booked but they would give me a Super Delux room. I had to point out that My booking was for a super delux room only.

On the webs it was mentioned that the super delux room are large rooms, tastefully done up with a line of designer amenities. A king size bed with luxurious linen, large patio, graceful wood works, exquisite wooden furniture add a distinctive charm to the room.

On checking in I found that the room had no Patio. AC remote was not provided. Was told that for using the AC I have to pay Rs 1000 extra. The furniture was very basic and at places there were wires protruding out of the walls with no lights. TV was a small LCD 4:3 tv on one corner of the room. (difficult to see from the center of the bed) Bed was king size but no luxurious linen, no large patio, no graceful wood works, no exquisite wooden furniture no distinctive charm to the room.

Side window was against the neighboring property wall. Front window was facing the Bamboo grove about 30-40 feet away. Over all the room was average. Definitely without any sort of charm.

Breakfast provided on CP basis was good n tasty. Food in the restaurant was again tastish. Food was more tasty at Ambadi. Pizza and Burger at Pazza Max down the road was good.

frankly , i am very very demanding when it comes to staying in hotels and dining out . and , i wasn't let down by grand thekkady . this was probably the best out of the many hotels we stayed in , during our kerala trip. the rooms are spacious and VERY CLEAN , and service is very efficient.the food , although not the best you'll ever eat is hygienic and tasty . the location is the icing on the cake , located almost at the entrance of periyar wildlife sanctuary . there is no scenic view on offer here , and try not to get an outward - facing room , as there is a HUGE monkey problem . the little buggers may come in through a window left open and go off with your belongings when you go out .wi - fi , however , is available only in reception area , overall , a very good experience and good value for money.

Room Tip: choose a room on the inner side , just to be safe from monkeys

The best thing about this hotel is the location. Excellently placed very close to the periyar tiger reserve and Elephant Camp.Rooms were decent and very cozy with the hotel giving a very good feel of being close to the jungle.
Somehow we got confused about the room tips and manged to get ourselves a side facing view the balcony of which literally opened into a bldg. next door. So the front facing rooms are better i guess. We didn't spend much time in the room so it didn't matter that much anyway.
Good breakfast buffet. A no frills absolutely practical place to stay.

We had booked two rooms for two nights here for our stop off in Thekkady. Our rooms were apparently the super deluxe, nothing super about them to be honest. The rooms were spacious and this was useful as we required an extra bed, although the room where the extra bed was set up was slightly smaller than the other room so the bed was right outside the bathroom. The room on arrival was clean, the bathroom was on the small side and it was an open shower with no slope or separation from rest of the bathroom so was not impressed as we knew the bathroom would get wet, especially since the shower curtain was on the short side as well. As we were there for two nights we assumed our room would at least be cleaned the next day but no such thing. We left very early in the morning for the periya lake boating and were back just after 9am and left again by 11am, in between having breakfast so not in the rooms for very long, so I'm not sure why these rooms were not cleaned, the bathroom was not very pleasant especially as it had not been cleaned, the wet floors did not dry quickly and the floor towel was just damp as the entire floor would get wet as there was no real separation from the shower and rest of bathroom.
The hotel lobby was nice, we could access WiFi here. The restaurant offered breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast was buffet, not always enough variety. Lunch and dinner menus were ok, staff in the restaurant were very friendly.
The staff at reception were friendly and helpful but the other hotel staff who serviced the rooms (obviously not ours, but we saw them about on the floor or using the lifts) could not all communicate well.
Saying all that, the location was very good, not far from the tiger reserve and periyar lake, also loads of shops around where we purchased spices and souvenirs from. We also watched a kathakali performance at the mudra cultural centre which was right around the corner from the hotel.

The Grand Thekkady was a lovely place to stay.
Rooms were basic, but nice with comfy beds.No fridge or kettle. It is well positioned "in between the 2 parts of the town" and either shopping areas are only 5 to 10min walk away.
We had dinner here, which was inexpensive and delicious. Breakfast buffet was a bit basic.
Free WiFi in the lobby (not in the rooms) which was great!

I stayed with my wife for a day in Grand Thekkady, a hotel with a good room and a clean bathroom. It is situated at a decent location with both veg and non-veg to offer. The staff is friendly but they do not understand English completely but it's manageable. On the same road you can enjoy kerala martial arts and kathakali shows. Overall an ok experience for us as a couple.
