My boss had booked me at this hotel. He has been using it for years and loves it. And now I too can say the same. It is truly home away from home. My small deluxe room was so cozy with a massive bathroom. The room had a small wall fan, and while it was a little hot during the day, the fan served its purpose by cooling the room. I must suggest that they have a couple more electric sockets in the room, as it was quite difficult to charge my phone and camera. I could manage it by unplugging the TV... and I put the camera for charging in the bathroom!

Having said that, the place is just lovely. One minus point is that they have hot water only for certain times during the day.

And the food was just amazing. I loved everything I ordered. Beef fry, pork fry, fried rice, club sandwiches...

Room Tip: Opt for the deluxe room... or the cottages (without TV)

Hotel Ambadi is well situated in Periyar, close to the Periyar Wildlife Tiger Reserve, walking distance to the main street which is full of Kashmiri traders, and excellent local restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable. Hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. Excellent range of local fare on the menu.
Would stay here again.

Stayed here for two nights. Our room was spacious, with lots of wood used throughout. Big comfortable bed. No air-con, just a fan. But, as Peryiar National Park is a considerable distance above sea level, the room was perfectly cool at night. No need for a mosquito net either. There was a small balcony outside with seats, but we only used this for a short time on one evening. In the morning, however, beware.....one of our group left his balcony door open and went off to have a shower. When he came out again, he found a large macaque in the room - which then made off into the trees with his T-shirt. Only one criticism.....the ladies employed by the hotel did a tremendous job of constantly sweeping up leaves, and discarded litter - a never ending task it would seem. It's a real shame that the Indian guests staying here don't follow the example of their Western counterparts - by taking their litter back to their rooms rather than throwing it on the ground at their backsides. Unfortunately, we witnessed the same revolting behavior all over South India.

We came to the restaurant on the recommendation seen in lonely planet. My husband ordered a chicken korma which was absolutely awful. It was basically cooked chicken in a campbell's condensed chicken soup. I've seen other reviews of here which have been favourable, but I would steer clear of this place. Service was slow and they add service charge to the bill, which was completely undeserved. Go to Chrissie's instead.

While on our 8 days trip to Kerala in dec 2013, we had to stay in Thekady for just one day. So, we were looking for a decent accommodation. I came across this hotel and booked this. I was most skeptical about this as it was the cheapest place I had booked in the entire 8 day trip. But when we reached there, we were amazed with the kind of room and the whole property as it was just fabulous and beyond our expectations.
The rooms were really nice, quite spacious with a small balcony with two chairs there. The hotel is a very nicely done in a colonial style. The restaurant serves amazing food. And in fact I heard its one the best in thekady.
I wish I could have stayed here more.
I would definitely recommend this hotel without any doubt !

Room Tip: We took one on the ground floor as they dont have lift and we had a 1 year old child.

I will review only the attached restaurant because we used only that and not the hotel. We had meals twice there on two consecutive nights. The food was great, just cooked right and very reasonably priced. The service was superb on the first night but on the second night it was very poor. No response from the staff for very long. The prices are really very reasonable. Try the Chicken Afghani and the Caramel Custard, they are exotic. But don't go for the fish dishes, they are not too good.

Staff not very helpful, room not very clean still cigarette butts on the balcony from previous occupants, room not serviced while we were out all day.
Breakfast ok nothing special did not try the restaurant ate out both nights. Green Bamboo just across the road very good and cheap.
Would recommend if you do the River Boat trip to try and get the first slot or go on the all day safari. Elephant ride good and the martial arts perfect

They seem to get away with a lot because of their location.

Worst hotel we stayed in on our trip.

We had to leave early due to a strike by government workers,as we were due to due on a house boat cruise the hotel would not even give us a breakfast picnic, they just did not seem to care.

The morning we left there was a mass escudos of guests in taxies leaving we must have been about one in 200 hundred at 5 am in a convoy which all kept going until we were out of the strike area and then they stopped at tea shops, which some tourists had breakfast picnics from other hotels.

It can be noisy, all the drivers park in the complex and sleep in the cars our driver was parked right outside our room and at 3am on the morning of departure the noise level was quite high, which woke my husband up but thankfully I slept through.

No need for TV here plenty to keep you occupied maybe 3 nights here would be better to fit everything in.
