We arrived here early in the morning due to a change to our travel plans in order to avoid being caught up in the state-wide strikes taking place that day, but Chrissie and Adel welcomed us warmly and gave us breakfast while they sorted out our rooms ahead of checking in time. These are really friendly, sensible, down-to-earth people who make you immediately welcome, with a great sense of humour and loads of very useful/honest/practical advice on the surrounding area. Adel organised our tickets for two evening Karali and Kathakali performances, as well as explaining the wildlife sanctuary visiting protocols to our driver. The accommodation is simple but homely, with clean and comfortable rooms. The location is quiet, yet close to local shops and restaurants, with delightful jungle views from the balconies as well as beautiful gardens around the accommodation at the rear of the hotel.

Went there with my wife - the rooms were clean and the food was good as well. No issues what so ever. Couple of things to pay attention to - no elevators , so hauling luggage was a pain and secondly (not an issue with the hotel) pay attention to warnings about monkeys.

But I could not recomend a better place if you are on a budget.

We planned on staying in Kumily at Chrissie's for 3 days and ended up staying 6 days because of both the great hospitality at Chrissie's and the great oudoors opportunities close by. The staff at Chrissie's was extremely helpful in setting us up with trekking guides and taxi drivers that were trustworthy. Good food too, although a bit on the expensive side for the area.

stayed at chrissie's for 2 nites and had a great day trekking on the range scan. saw all the park wildlife apart from a tiger. the hotel is set back from the main road, in a quiet location, with balcony rooms overlooking a lush garden and the hills beyond. clean and basic but great value and all you need. cafe serves good food including real coffee. owners adel and chrissie are friendly and great to talk to for local advice.

We were on our honeymoon and booked our nights in at Chrissie's before travelling from the UK. From the start, Chrissie gave us lots of really useful information not only about Periyar, but also about places in Kerala. When we arrived, the welcome was great and there were flower petals arranged on our bed which was a lovely touch. We were given the best room on the top floor (lots of stairs but well worth the effort!!) which had lovely views and was quiet and so relaxing. The location was good for going on the tours into the wildlife sanctuary and also walking into town. When we had no energy (after trekking and searching for elephants all day), we were able to get a good feed at the restaurant in Chrissie's.

We recommended this place to other travellers to Periyar and hope they took our advice. A great place, very hospitable and comfortable. Many thanks. Nicola and Dan

Charming guest house, real value for money and a great position. Pretty gardens. Our room had glorious views of the hillside down to Thekkady. Make sure you start the day with Chrissie's homemade crunchy cereal!
Chrissie is a real character, very welcoming and friendly with lots of helpful tips etc.
Dinner at Spice Village highly recommended.
Do make time to visit a spice plantation, I thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours we spent there one rainy afternoon! There are several differnt plantations to choose from. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting.
Also worth a visit for tea or coffee is The Coffee Inn, on the main street of Thekkady. Bizarre and unusual building painted dark red - you can't miss it. Great atmosphere.
Definitely would not recommend the Periyar Tiger Reserve, which was very disappointing. Weather was particularly wet but this was a real waste of time and money. Although not expecting tiger we did hope to see some wildlife, but we didn't see anything, not even birds.

I did not stay in the hotel of Chrissie's, however I ate here on 2 consecutive evenings. The first was fine however the second meal resulted in my brother and I being food poisoned writing off 48 hours of our stay in Kerala. I am aware that as a foreign traveller, you should always be careful with what you eat in India and we were were cautious in our choices avoiding meat etc, however this experience left me inevitably with a terrible impression of the place.
I wasn't impressed with the service either, waiter was rude and unhelpful.

We are sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations of our restaurant.

Our hotel and restaurant were established 6 years ago and we take pride in trying to ensure that guests have an enjoyable and relaxing experience. We have always had strict health and hygiene policies and practices which account, in no small part, for the overwhelmingly positive reviews of our restaurant.

Following your comments, we immediately conducted a review of our practices to ensure that all of our stringent policies are being maintained by our staff. We did not find any lapse. We do not serve meat (apart from small tins of tuna that are opened per order), all our uncooked dishes (such as salads) are cleaned thoroughly in boiled and filtered water and we do not use ice.

We would like to assure all of our guests of our continuing attention to detail to try to ensure that our customers have a wonderful stay.
