“Relaxing and peaceful stay.”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

We stayed here for two nights while on a bespoke tour. After a five hour journey from Cochin on spectacular winding mountain roads it was a relief to arrive in Thekkady. We were given a warm welcome at the hotel where we had a standard room. This was obviously one of their older rooms with older traditional type furniture, the end of a small terrace, but large with a sitting area, large shower, luggage area, T.V., and refrigerator, but no hair dryer. There were casement doors on to our veranda where there were chairs and which looked out over the village. There is no alcohol served in this hotel, but there is a shop almost opposite the entrance where we bought beer and wine at very reasonable prices. We were shown round the resort where the trees, animals and birds were explained and we were then asked to plant a small tree outside our room. Later we watched a cookery demonstration by Sajeesh, the sous chef who very kindly sent the recipes via e mail to our home. Thomas, the chef was there at dinner advising on the dishes on the buffet. I do not eat spicy food, but found plenty on the buffet, which was delicious. All the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. A relaxing and peaceful stay.

Warm Indian hospitality, smooth check in / check out. Our room was large and comfortable with a separate small outdoor patio I was down with a bit of an upset stomach but the restaurant staff quickly made some plain veggie dishes for me. The next day we enjoyed the cooking demo followed by a classical dance performance upstairs before dinner. Food was very good and the executive chef strolled by to chat during the meal. The service was very good and everyone was helpful and smiling

We spent two nights at Greenwoods on our honeymoon and we loved it! The people were very friendly and the food was amazing. Our room was really big and very comfortable. We loved the tree house café which you climb up to and walk across a rope bridge. We were also shown the remote tree house cabin that you can spend the night in which was a short hike up to the top of a mountain about 10 minutes drive from the hotel. This looked really cool and so peaceful. Overall we really liked the atmosphere of the hotel and would strongly recommend it to anyone visiting this area.

Room Tip: They don't have an alcohol which appeared to be quite common in Kerala. We bought drinks before...

Stayed In an Aranya room for a night. Welcome was warm and the check in was really quick. Reception staff are very efficient and cooperative. The food at the restaurant was tasty and service was good. Didnt get a chance to visit the Spa but they had everything explained well to their guests. Lot of activity could be easily arranged from the hotel itself. Had a few issues with my room, but was attended immediately and they ensured we had a comfortable stay. My stay was very brief ,so could not explore the hotel more but one thing was evident ....The staff knew their job and the hotel looks like a top class property.

Room Tip: The Aranya Room was very spacious and had a balcony, huge bathroom, just about the room for a brief s...

We were impressed from the moment we arrived and drove through the gates in the centre of town. The hotel and grounds were peaceful and calming, creating a sense of true relaxation that was surpassed only by the genuine care and generosity of each member of staff. From the executive chef, who was available for each meal and was an observer at each cookery demonstration, to members of the catering, restaurant, housekeeping and front office staff. On arrival you are warmly greeted with a garland of cardamons and the most exquisite ginger coffee, which I had never heard of before nor unfortunately been able to get anywhere since. We were then offered a tour of the grounds to learn more about the famous spices of the area as well as how the hotel seeks to reduce their carbon footprint through recycling and the use of bio-diversity. Having a drink in the treehouse coffee shop is an experience to remember and one not to be missed.
At each point throughout our stay we were impressed at the genuine warmth of the staff, warmth that seemed to go beyond simply 'well trained' staff, but one that was genuinely welcoming. It was this that made our experience all the more memorable and set Green Woods apart from the other hotels we stayed at during our holiday in India.
