Blue Water Beach Resort
Ranked #15 of 52 Hotels in Varkala
Reviewed 6 November 2013

Blue Water is located on the south cliff, its a quieter and more secluded part of Varkala. The resort has a little beach right next door. The north cliff is a twenty minute walk along the Arabian Sea - that's where all the action is - shops, restaurants and the crowds that go along with it. In hindsight, choosing to stay at the south end was a masterstroke, you get the best of both worlds - a quiet morning to soak in sun after a dip in the sea or a loud n rocking evening is just a short stroll away. The cottages here are cosy and earthy and close to the water - every night you are lulled to sleep by the sounds of sea. The resort is managed by Sreekumar and he has a small but an amazing team. They are thoughtful, ever present, and endearing and went out of their way to make sure our holiday was perfection personified. Never once heard them say 'no'. Shout out to Naveen and Francis as well. Sreekumar also doubles up as the chef and he certainly knows his way around a kitchen. If you are there make sure you eat the Kerala beef and parotas or stuffed squid....the stuff dreams are made of. Its spicy and rich...not for the faint hearted, be prepared for a food coma after those meals :)
Am sure, if you looked, you'd find a more affordable place, or a more luxurious one too….but with Sreekumar and team at Blue Water, it’s like coming home. And I can't wait to go back again, and again and again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea facing cottage...I'd recommend an air conditioned one.

We were very lucky. The place is beautiful, well away from the cliff to be quiet, but close to restaurants (accessible by a charming coastal path). The general manager, Kumar and his employee Francis treated us like royalty, anticipating our desires perfectly. In addition, Kumar has great cooking skills, preparing us delicious dishes using fresh local produce. thank you again!

a very nice, clean and friendly place! we enjoyed our stay a lot. the food is delicious and the resort is a dream. the staff is very friedly and polite and the bungalows are awesome.

it is located about 5-10 minutes from the main beach by feet which is good because you can just walk along the beach and you are located in a quiet place at the ocean.

Our stay here was fantastic! Despite going during monsoon season, the staff were so friendly and helpful and personable...we even made friends with the chef (an amazing cook by the way!), were amazed every night by the delicious meals he made for us! The manager even got us a fresh coconut from his home because he found out that we hadn't tried one yet. We would definitely come back.

In summary, Blue Water is a beautiful situated resort, with fantastic views, lovely cottages, nice food and excellent service. I can highly recommend staying there. It is a 10min walk from the hub-bub of Varkala, and all the better for it.

We arrived to a greeting from the owner of the hotel, a very nice man, along with the manager who seemed keen to impress and offer good service, which we definitely received.

Our cottage was beautifully decorated and the bathroom the cleanest and actually largest we have ever experienced in India. The combination of an extremely comfortable bed (with strong AC directed at it) and the sound of the sea throughout the night made for a restorative and peaceful night's sleep every night during our stay.

The food we were served for dinner was amazing - platters of fresh spiced prawns and red snapper fish, which we ate on the terrace overlooking the sea and the beach below. Absolutely idyllic.

The following day, as we walked to Varkala & further, we quickly realised that Blue Water was easily and by far the best resort in the area. The less-than 10min walk into Varkala along the beaches is very pleasant, and leaving the hoard of touts in Varkala-proper to walk back to the hotel in it's serene and calm surroundings was just delightful.

I do have one suggestion for improvement though: we felt that the resort would benefit from having a more transparent pricing system, in particular an itemised price list for food and drinks, even if that means a very simple set-price for dinner and another for lunch. If I stayed here again I would ask for a price list for all food and drinks upfront, before ordering anything, and an itemised bill at the end of my stay.

Overall, an extremely relaxing place to stay with clean rooms, very comfortable beds, right next to the sea and the perfect distance away from the main town, I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for room 1, it's the biggest and definitely the best

My boyfriend and I stayed here over new years. We arrived and were shown to our beach hut. it was the one third from the front so we could see the sea from our bed, amazing! the bathroom is perfectly fine, the air condidtioning wasnt working the first night but they fixed this for us the following day. its location is perfect. it is right on the beach, a small stroll down to the volcanic sands. it is a little further away from the main strip of the Varkala road where all the restaurants and shops are so you dont get many people walking past.

The breakfast is really lovely and you can sit and watch the fisherman pull in their catch in the morning if you are up early enough, also dolphins if you are lucky. the lunch and evening meals are average, you can get more choice if you walk into Varakala but ok for a quick snack.

For new years eve they had a little band palying local instruments and a large drum band playing, which were really good, and we saw in the new year in one of the hammocks they have dotted around.

If you are looking for somewhere with an amazing view and relaxed then i would definately recommend it, the photos on its website dont do it justice. there isnt a pool but you dont need one as the beach os so close, and they sell coconut water in the coconut in the beach for next to nothing which is lovely. when we return to Varkala we will be staying here again.

Room Tip: while we were there they were building some new huts that looked bogger than the ones already there...

Incidentally we decided to come down to watch the wonders of Varkala Cliff once we came across the geological importance of its landscape and we heard it was recently been nominated for the India’s First Geological Monument by the GSI.

We preferred to stay away from the usual crowd so we found out a place which was few kms away from the cliff and Papanasham beach. I would say we are so blessed that we could found a place like Blue Water, which is very close to the sea.

If you really wanted to enjoy the beauty of Sunset and Sunrise along with the beautiful sound of waves hitting the rocks so close, throughout your stay then this definitely must be your choice  loved it to the core! Highly recommended!!

The cottages are well aligned and each one has a prefect view towards the Arabian Sea. The interiors of the wooden cottages were classic and everywhere looked clean and tidy. Guess the house keeping is paid well :)

We were offered cuisines of our choice and we tried verities of fish which was all prepared by
Mr.Sreekumar the BW Manager and off-time executive chef (hope you don’t mind)! Thanks a lot Mr.Sree for your hospitality.

Over-all experience was wonderful and we definitely would plan to come back.
