We booked this after reading other trip advisor recommendations and were very pleased. Friendly, welcoming and spotlessly clean. We took the cottage which is more expensive but private. It's less than 2 minutes from the beach but tucked back away from the noise on the clifftop. They also have a vegetarian restaurant which is great too.

My husband and I loved it here! it was great! We stayed for 10 days. We stayed the majority of the time in the Cottage and absoultly loved it! The shower was incredible, strong water pressure, everything was so clean, and the beds were very comfortable. We arrived and there was one pillow each, I like to have 2 for sleeping and my husband 3, they had no problem bringing us extra pillows.
We enjoyed breakfast every morning at the cottage, the food was great! The restaurant serves incredible vegetarian food. The service we recieved was so first class. At night we would return to the cottage and a misquito coil would be burning and a light turned on for us. They checked with us everyday about having super at our cottage and we did many times as the food was great and we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere outside our cottage. For the last 3 nights we slept in the hotel and we had the very last room on the top floor. The room was large and spacious. We liked it very much too.It has a private veranda too, so we still felt very secluded and private. We did yoga a few mornings too on the roof and it was wonderful.
This hotel is very inexpensive and the service we recieved was better than 5 star resorts we have stayed at. Everyone was very kind and personable with us. There is no A/C but having the fan for me was good enough. I have never stayed anywhere without a/c but I was very comfortable. When we come back to Varkala we will stay here again, without hesitation and highly recomend that you stay here too! I was so impressed with our stay here but what blew me away was we had our laundry done and then it rained for a couple of days and we were checking out and they brought us our laundry as we were leaving as to give it the most amount of time to dry because it was sunny that day. When we got to our new desitination (Kovalum) I realised that I was missing a skirt. I emailed and let them know, and the skirt was delivered the very next day! I was amazed at the service! I truly recommend that you stay here! Good location just a few minutes to walk to the beach and so quiet at night!

We really liked it here. Varkala is a very nice place to stay. Originally we were only going to spend two days here but extended our stay to four. Jicky's is set amongst lush vegetation, and back from the main strip along the cliff-front of Varkala so you can escape the hoards if you want to (not that there were many people there in mid-September, which we liked). The proprietor was very helpful and let us know we could ask for anything. Laundry was done promptly and we could get fresh juice and ice (made from bottled water) sent to our room to drink with our duty free vodka. The room was clean and tidy. It is not a 'flash' place to stay but clean, nice and run by helpful people. We would recommend Jicky's to anyone staying in Varkala and would stay here again if we came back.

  • Liked — Value for money, sounds of night life (crickets etc), lush vegetation surrounding us, being set back from the main strip of Varkala Cliff.
  • Disliked — Nothing.

Myself, my partner and our 2 year daughter stayed at Jicky's November 2008 and absolutely loved the place. We arrived by taxi after spending a testing week in Kovalam (delayed baggage, constant hassle from hawkers, inflated prices snd construction work on the beach).
A friend who had stayed there several times before told us about Jicky's rooms and advised us to check out the cottage.
We were welcomed by Akash and my partner went to have a look at the rooms and cottage. We were told the cottage was occupied but that we could have it the next day.
The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable and we immediately relaxed and felt at home.
The next morning we moved into the cottage. The cottage is set back from the rooms and consists of one large room with a double bed, a dressing/storage room and a clean showeroom with hot water - not that you need it. There is also a small area outside where you can sit and eat breakfast - kindly collected from the Oottupura restuarant and delivered by Akash or Javeed. We also spent several evenings sitting outside the cottage drinking cold Kingfishers and listening to the sounds of the night.
We stayed at the cottage for over a week before travelling north for a few days. The owners Oscar and Mini let us store our luggage in their house, enabling us to travel light before returning for another 4 days.
I cannot say enough good things about this place. The staff were fantastic. Akash will go out of his way to help you and make your stay a great one. We enjoyed chatting to him, and he was fantastic with our daughter. In fact everyone we met in Varkala was fantastic with our daughter!!
The Oottupura restuarant does a great breakfast and very nice vegetarian food. Check out the Sunset restuarant for great seafood and fish. The prawns were huge and very tasty!
There are loads of places to stay in Varkala but you'd be hard pushed to beat Jicky's rooms on value, cleanliness and a relaxing hassle free stay.
We will definately return to Jicky's.

  • Liked — The way we immediately felt at home there.
  • Disliked — There was nothing to dislike apart from leaving!

Had a great couple of days at Jicky's rooms and could easily have stayed longer. Can't comment on the rooms in the main building but the cottage was wonderful, small but perfectly formed with lots of privacy as it is well away from the main building and has a nice area outside to take breakfast. Staff were professional, friendly and very helpful.

It was the 3rd time staying at Jickys earlier this year, and I want to go back!! Set back from the main strip behind Ottapurra restaurant ( mmm gorgeous fresh veggie food) Jickys is set quietly amongst the coconut groves. The rooms are all extremely clean, well furnished with their own mossie nets, hot water & most are spacious some even with their own private balcony over looking the palm trees. We stayed in a larger room and was the most expensive at just under £8 per night, but well worth it, others rooms are as little as £4-£5.. The Varkalan family who owns Jickys are extremely welcoming and friendly people, who will help with anything!! We love returning to India, especially to be greeted with such warmth as you do when you return to Jickys!!
Cant recommend enough! Looking forward to visiting for a 4th time..... if you visit make sure you eat at Ottapurra.. the food is fresh, cheap and really really good...so good i fact we didnt eat anywhere else!!

  • Liked — The relaxation... beautiful setting and private space
  • Disliked — NOTHING!!
