“Great Stay with Debra at Kaiya House”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

We stayed at Kaiya house for two nights in mid-December and wished we could have stayed longer. Debra was amazingly helpful with information on Varkala, dining, massages etc. The service was great and breakfast up on the rooftop was delightful. Debra was so great we wished we could take her with us when we left. Would definitely recommend Kaiya House!

Yes, I always wish my guests staying for 2 nights had a bit more time and thank you for saying you wish you would have had longer. Maybe next time?

There are hotels in India and there's Kaiya House, full stop. I was lucky enough to have this place recommended by a chance acquaintance in the UK and , with a healthy instinct for a good find, got the last 2 rooms for my daughters and me over Christmas.
Beautiful rooms and wonderful food matched by the extraordinary personality of the person running it. Debra is a one off ; as an American living in India she has the unique ability to mediate the Indian experience.
You can go to fancy hotels , more expensive than this if you wish - just be aware you'll never be so well looked after, or so happy.

My boyfriend and I had the best time at Kaiya House with Debra, her staff and all the other house guests. Debra is a beautiful person inside and out and will do her best to help you in any way she can. Not only that but the standard at the guest house is extremely good and a quite a luxury if that is what you are looking for. Each morning you have the choice of an Indian breakfast or they will cook some other options if that is not for you and will even do this if you discover that the Indian breakfast is not for you. The house is beautifully furnished with interesting artefacts and decorated to a high standard. Each room has it's own theme - we stayed in the African room which was beautiful. We had a sneak peek at the other rooms which were also lovely. We very much recommend a stay here. Thanks so much for a wonderful week Debra and team! Love Anna and Andy xxxx

Kaiya House was the absolute perfect place for myself and my 2 friends to stay when we first arrived in India. The house itself is spotless, the rooms are beautifully decorated and the breakfasts were scrummy (fresh fruit/museli/youghurt.) Debra does an amazing job of helping you feel at ease not only in the house but also within the surrounding area, and I would totally recommend accepting any offers of a 7km cliff/beach walk one morning, despite the required 6am rise! All in all, would 100% recommend this to anyone who asked and would definitely go back if I ever found myself back in Varkala.

For once people of Tripadvisor... believe the hype! The other 5* reviews on here are spot on.
Kaiya house offers a truly remarkable experience, providing complete professionalism in a relaxed, home-stay environment.
It is very difficult to describe how wonderful our time at Kaiya house was... it would appear that others who have commented on TripAdvisor have also had a similar difficulty.
The property is clean and full of wonderful art work and artefacts. The rooms are "themed" to different cultures (Japanese room, Africa room etc.).The communal spaces within the property are beautifully designed and provide a wonderful location to meet fellow guests. The staff are local and provide extra services at extremely reasonable prices (fresh fruit juices, laundry services etc.). Above all it is the owner, Debra, who makes the stay at Kaiya truly remarkable - Her professionalism, honesty and energy are what makes Kaiya house #1 in Varkala on Tripadvisor - In our opinion Kaiya House should be #1 in all of India!

This place is the perfect place to stay because of Debra the owner. The walking tour she gives when you arrive makes all the difference and really lets you understand the lay of the land and saves a lot of time and headaches!

The rooms are very nice, though the bathrooms are a bit small. There are a lot of unique elements in the house itself which makes for an even more interesting stay! Its not on the main strip and beach, but its very close and convenient.

This was my second visit to Kaiya House and it was amazing as before. I just wish i was there now.

Debra is the perfect hostess, she makes you feel special and goes out of her way to make sure you have a great time. One day she even took me shopping for "weird" gifts in the local town.

As soon as you walk through the door and are greeted by Debra and Babachi you just know you have come to the right place.

We will be coming back this year...and next year,,,,and the following year...etc.

Room Tip: All are great. I've slept in the India and the English room. The English room has a picture of a...
