We stayed for four nights at the beginning of our holiday in Kerala and a night at the end. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are really of a high quality. The location is fantastic, right next to a quiet, small beach. The manager Mr. Babu was very helpful and produced for us an entire itinerary for a trip around Kerala that was very interesting and reasonably priced. We really had no complaints at all and would thoroughly recommend the Palm Tree Heritage to anybody considering a holiday in Kerala.

Room Tip: The two room suite is perfect for a family.

very very good experience. the rooms are very good, clean , spacious. the staff if very friendly and helpful. and in our case we had the beach almost just for us because they weren't so many tourists at the time. the restaurant is where I ate better in the all 3 months in india. not cheap but very good and gopal the owner became a friend. I recommend this place to everyone who likes a laidback experience o the beach with quality rooms. the only reason i gave 4 in sleep quality is because in my opinion the mattress could be a bit harder so doesn't sink to the middle, but i believe this is also a personal back problem. although if i go back i will stay there again for sure.

Room Tip: very good room with sea view and ac, massive wc

We stayed at the Palm Tree Heritage in April of 2011 to celebrate my wife's birthday (which she desired to have on a private beach).

Pros:

Location: There are very few hotels in India where one can step directly from the room onto the soft sands of a quiet private beach. Palm Tree is one among them & as the name suggests is located on the palm fringed Odayam beach, a few hundred meters north off the North cliff of Varkala. There are 5 rooms all of which are sea facing.

The energy: The place is very positive & vibrant unlike the rest of Varkala coast. The sunsets at this small beach left a soothing feeling that still linger on in our hearts.

The room: Huge air-conditioned room with a massive glass window provided a good view of the beach from within the room. The premium bathware in the spacious attached bathrooms lend a touch of luxury to our stay. They've got round the clock supply of hot water (replenished by a solar heater during the day & an electric heater for the nights & lesser sunny days. We liked that). We loved lazing out on the long Kerala style easy chair on the private verandah facing the sea during the day sipping cold fruits juices & reading books, stopping at times to admire the fine traditional wooden carved railings.

Activities: The location is a private haven for sunbathers & swimmers, who after washing themselves off under the outdoor shower walk into the restaurant to cool off with a cocktail or bottles of chilled beer. Since I had just returned from a stress filled week was relieved to find a ayurveda & yoga center at a stone throw away from the hotel.

The Birthday dinner & food: We celebrated the birthday with a candle lit dinner on the beach. Despite requesting for the private dinner late into the afternoon, they set up a table with flowers picked from the hotel's own garden & filled our tummies with (the pre-ordered) deliciously spicy Kerala delicacies. The seafood was excellent. We noticed that the restaurant normally served non spicy food probably owing to the majority of the westerners who throng to the place & had to mention our preference (which was spicy) while they took the order.

Restaurant: We liked the rustic design of the restaurant which is tastefully decorated with traditional ware. Despite being off season, it was full all day. The staff were friendly, easy going & well mannered. We noticed that most of the guests hung out in the restaurant all day.

High speed internet was available free of charge at the reception.

Cons: I have yet to find anything negative about this nice little place on the beach.

Conclusion: The rooms & friendly staff compliment this well located small beach hotel which we believe easily qualify as a boutique luxury hotel.

We were there for 4 days during the first half of Apr'11, although it was a little hot but we still enjoyed it throughly. Palm tree heritage is a small ,homely, clean & very beautiful property with very courteous staff. It is right in front of a small beach, hence very relaxing. It was amazing & pleasure to watch fishermen to catch & distribute the fishes in the morning and that too right in front of the property. Babu (the owner) is very friendly & can arrange everything you wish. He is very famous among the locals there, almost everyone knows him there.

This place is slightly away from the main cliff area & resorts hence the path leading to this place is dark & somewhat lonely in the night. There is nothing to worry about but it is advisable to carry a torch. Moreover you can always call Babu & ask him to send an auto rickshaw or taxi for you.

In all this place is awesome & very very relaxing and highly recommended if you are looking for a good break from your daily tough metro city life. We look forward to visit this place again. Enjoy.

After reading up on tripadvisor, this was our preferred place to stay. Unfortunately when I emailed to make a booking, there was no accomodation available for our first night, so we booked in somewhere else. On the second day, we decided to move further up the beach in search of the infamous Palm Tree Heritage. We were walking along the idyllic Odyam beach, and I thought to myself "hang on, I've seen this place before". Low and behold, I had recognised PTH from the pictures online. We were given a good drop in price, and a lovely room overlooking the ocean.

There 3 things which make this place.

1. Location - it is in the quieter part of Varkala (not by the cliffs) and has its own beach

2. Rooms - the rooms themselves are gorgeous and built and furnished to a very high standard.

3. The owner/manager Babu - Babu is a legend and made our holiday. He organised us a houseboat trip (the 'best' on the backwaters, and it really was) and our trip up to Kochi to see the IPL. He really is a fountain of knowledge and is only too happy to help. He made us feel completely welcome and at home.

If you are looking for a quieter stay in Varkala, this is definitely the place to go.

My fiancee and I stayed at the Palm Tree Heritage at the beginning of our holiday before travelling Kerala for 2 weeks and returning for our final few days. We found the resort to have the most beautiful location as there was a private beach on our doorstep! Babu the owner was most welcome and helpful. Not only did he accomodate and welcome us to the highest standard, he was also very friendly, helpful, gave us advice on other places to stay in Kerala and organised the most amazing houseboat trip for 2 nights. He also looked after some excess luggage whilst we travelled around, organised car to and from the airport and cooked us a delicious meal on our last night. We travelled to other parts of Kerala and found Varkala to be the most relaxing place to holiday and staying at Palm Tree was by far the best place to stay in Varkala as most other accomodation is situated on the cliff face or further from the beach.

PTH is a lovely little mini resort (6 bungalows, 2 more on the way). Manager (Babu) and his staff are great and very friendly and accomodating, rooms are big and clean (a/c and fan) and the bar/cafe is a great place to have a meal, drink or just chill out.

Location is 10min walk from the main Varkala cliff 'strip' (which was great as you can walk easily to the bars/restaurants but retreat to the privacy and chilled atmosphere of PTH whenever you want). Food is also good at the PTH cafe.

Highly recommended.
