The best part of the hotel is its location. The sea is hardly 50 m from the hotel and can be seen and heard from the rooms. Everything that the hotel staff committed during hotel booking was committed to during our stay. We definitely would want to stay there again!

Room Tip: Select a room in the 2nd floor or above for a good view of the sea

Situated right on the beach, the Hindustan offers a terrific place to stay and explore the Varkala area. The staff are extremely helpful and endeavour to make your stay as comfortable as they can. Arriving very early in the morning and not being able to check in after a very long flight would have been disasterous without the thoughfulness of the hotel reception staff. We managed to get into our room without any delay which made a great start to our journey. The breakfast is quite adequate as are the rooms. Dated and without luxury but perfectly clean and tidy.
Situated where you can observe the local population undertaking memorial rights to the dead on the beach, we found it intruiging rather than off putting. The sea can be rather dirty and not really suitable for swimming and the local village was typically litter strewn. But that is India!

The beach and cliffs above the town have a wide range of small cafe restaurants serving the complete range of indian and International dishes. Some remain non alchoholic but search and ye shall find. The usual tourist items abound on every corner but the locals are not persistent in their efforts to sell you some beads or a drum etc etc.
A great place to enjoy india although the influence of the hippies no longer exists being replaced by a wave of Russian tourists. However great value and comparitively cheap still

Thanks to Hotel Hindustan Beach resort for making our stay at Varkala a memorable one. This hotel is located very close to beach and has excellent sea facing rooms. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Varkala beach was too good with clean shallow water and we enjoyed every min spent in the beach and in resort. Hotel has their dining area in 4th floor with amazing sea view. Quality of food was just awesome though the service time can be improved. Breakfast has wide varieties of tasty items and the staffs were extremely friendly and polite. Planning to visit this place again and looking forward for another memorable trip.

Room Tip: We stayed in 201 in 2nd floor (corner room) and it was very spacious with a great sea view.

Nice room in a hotel in a good location. It's right on the beach, which is some sort of holy beach so there are always holy men on the beach and stuff going on. Has a lovely pool and the a/c is a life saver. Tuk-tuks are outside and it's only a short stroll over an open sewer and up some scummy steps to all the North Cliff restaurants and bars.

There's a great view, perfect for sunsets, but spoilt by the ineffective pigeon nets. But they let themselves down with unpredictable service. We only eat at the hotel one night - food was good but we waited one and a half hours for our food, because of an event. And on our final morning, our room service breakfast didn't arrive. I phoned and was told that they didn't do room service breakfasts at 6:30 am. When I asked why they'd allowed me to order it, they changed their minds and it turned up just as we were leaving.

My family - comprising my dad in a wheel chair, my mum, my sister and my dads nurse stayed at HBR for 3 nights.
Great things about this hotel
- the location. It's right on the beach, and near a taxi/auto stand and quite close to the shops and restaurants yet not close enough for it to be noisy.
- the view. There is no price you can put to watching the sunset from the deck chairs in ALL the rooms. The view from the 4th floor restaurant is SPECTACULAR!
- wheelchair accessible - thumbs up for this one
- the rooms are large!
- toilets are clean and have shampoo/conditioner/shower gel etc...
The terrible things
- they are awfully slow with service especially at the restaurant
- the food was bad. Made in old oil, and having eaten everything on the menu I can assure you that you are better off eating at north cliff somewhere.
-INSECTS!!! There were spiders in our bed! I want to be close to nature, just not THAT close.
-paying for the Internet sucks. 250 inr a day.

Room Tip: 104-106 are awesome coz they have a lawn attached.
