Took us awhile to decide to stay here as there seemed to be some mixed reviews but we loved this hotel. The pool was amazing and the grounds as well as the rooms were really well maintained. Other reviewers had mentioned issues with the pool getting overrun by people not staying at the resort but not an issue for us which may be because it wasn't peak season. We stayed in a garden cottage which had a KS bed and easily accommodated a roll away or 2 if you have kids. The room also had a separate luggage room which was nice so didn't have to have bags everywhere. The negatives were the restaurant - which was slow and not that good and the room didn't have a separate shower area so water goes everywhere (didn't worry us but some may not like). It is close to the cliff-top but bring a torch to see your way back Staff were friendly. Highly recommend

Booked in for 2 - stayed for 7 days! We were traveling with our kids (boys - 8 and 14) and they loved the pool, clean, big and a relief from the hectic nature of India. The hotel is well located - close walk to the cliff cafes and has a peaceful garden. The cafe is slow, the food okay (not great but fine for poolside snacks) and there was no fridge in the room but the staff are helpful and the atmosphere is good. Ask for your room to be cleaned otherwise it won't happen. Now sitting back at my desk I miss that pool with the dragon flies dancing over it!

Room Tip: Get an upstairs room overlooking the pool with your own private balcony.

My husband and I stayed at Akhil Beach Resort 7th September for originally 6 nights but loved it so much we extended our stay for another night before moving on to Munnar. The tropical garden and pool are very well maintained and provide a lovely pretty peaceful setting. The hotel is in an excellent location just a few minutes walk to the restaurants and shops on the clifftop. The hotel and restaurant staff are very friendly and hotel manager Sibin is friendly and obliging. When we first arrived we were put into a room that had no wardrobe/Cupboard or shelf or even hanging hooks (room 106) so had nowhere to store any of our belongings but after pointing this out to Sibin he happily moved us to the room next door which did have a wardrobe/cupboard. The room was basic but quite adequate. So if booking standard or double deluxe rooms make sure you ask for one with wardrobe or hanging space. The restaurant serves nice meals and also sells alcohol. A nice place to stay for a relaxing part of your trip to Kerala.

Room Tip: Be mindful that not all rooms have storage so if important make sure you ask for one that does.

Stared here for 5 nights at the end of August with my husband and 13 year old son. Tried a non AC room for one night but it was too hot for us, especially with our son in the room on the extra bed. The rooms are really not big enough. We went without AC because the standard AC rooms were good value but definitely too small for the extra bed. Ended up in a Garden view cottage with AC. So much better, really spacious and only 3,000 Rs. They don't automatically clean the rooms though, you may have to ask. Lovely Ayurvedic doctor and the treatments were top notch. Great pool, strangely a bit too warm. The food was ok but the restaurant a bit lacking in atmosphere, so we preferred eating along North cliff. Overall great place, would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: The stardard rooms are only big enough for two. If you have children with you, definitely go for th...

The hotel is a typical Akhil (although brand new with a rather strange design in the cottages!) Staff were very helpful. especially the reception peoples.

although all brand new cottages are looking great, there is no botttle of water as complementary in the cottages, The pool was Awsome.

As others mention - easy access from the hotel to north clifff (within walking distance)

off season rate was ok, Mini Bar, parking and breakfast it all adds up a bit and gets close to what you can get at a decent 2 or 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms available at the pool side are awsome..........

We stayed here for two nights with the intention of relaxing. The hotel has a great pool with sun loungers and excellent on hand service. The room we stayed in was basic with no frills but that's not their selling point. The clifftop walk is great and very close, however at night can feel unsafe as there is no lighting on the route back. We wanted to book ahead a backwaters tour in Allepey and Shibin who worked at the hotel booked this for us. He charged us 8500 for the overnight boat which we felt was slightly overpriced as another couple were quoted a price of 5500 while we were waiting for our boat. They told us that this was as they had four boats, set at different prices, but we had only been given the most expensive option. Along with this there were a few misleading promises, ie. that the chef would cook anything you liked. The saving grace were the staff on the boat (driver and chef) who were both very friendly and knowledgable of the backwaters.

We were in a cheap room, rather than one of the more pricey villas, and it suited us fine for our stay in March.
There's a lovely pool area (the pool boy was excellent and very hard-working) and a nice restaurant area.
Our room was definitely basic but was kept very clean, and A/C was available for a small additional fee. Staff were very helpful and sorted out things quickly and cheerfully.
It's a short walk through an alleyway to the main tourist area of town, Varkala clifftop, where there's a wide choice of restaurants, cafes and shops. Few places are licensed for alcohol so if you want to drink it takes a while to learn which places are willing to get booze for you and which ones are most proficient. (You have to be discreet if drinking in a non-licensed venue because the owners get stiff fines if caught.)
Try the traditional restaurant at the "helipad" which looks like a dusty shack but serves wonderful veggie food at very cheap prices.
