“nice view but disappointing rooms”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 January 2014

The sea pearl chalets have a great location and view but the huts are super simple with no A/C which is challenging given the hot and humid weather. It got quite sticky at night as they are very small and you can't keep the windows open. The nicest part was to sit outside early morning and watch the ocean. Overall we were a bit disappointed though as we expected a bit more from the pictures. With a little efford the place could be transformed into something really nice.

It has minimal rooms but a flexible and good staff. It has the best view of any place in Varkala. The rooms are non-AC which is fine during tourist season in India (Dec-Jan). They usually serve a simple but cheap breakfast. It's all the way on the end of the cliff but not a bad walk and bit more secluded. Would recommend you use the beach by going down the road and walking further south over some rocks where it is much quieter.

Would recommend anytime.

Unique location on edge of south cliff. Paid Rs.2000pn between christmas and new year. Reasonable value given time and everything worked. Friendly. Perhaps because I booked months before they gave me Hut No.3, which is about the best located. No aircon however windows open and good breeze. One day No.3 will likely disappear over the cliff so avoid it in the monsoon!

Stayed here for two nights in April. No air conditioning but great ocean breezes. Very compact rooms but clean, and being able to sit outside and watch the ocean roll in was great. Helpful in arranging a tuk tuk for a very early train.

We were one of two couples at the chalets. The second night we had the place to ourselves. We loved its relatively isolated location...and the mongoose that flitted away after checking us out several times.Mosquito nets were provided and they were needed.

The chalet was clean with a fan. We were given extra towels and soap to wash our hair/clothes but had to buy bottled water. Tea or coffee was served at breakfast but we had to eat out .Apart from fantastic sea views we were close to the .part of the beach where ex-pat tourists were few ( if any at this time) and we managed to have conversations with locals. The owner and night watchmen were very helpful, arranging 5.00 am tuktuk to the train station and showing us where recommended eateries were.Once again we had to pay in cash. Would stay again.

We stayed for two days in February. The rooms are pleasant, clean, and just what you need. Didn't meet the owner, but we were exploring most of the time anyway. A fair walk along the beach from North Cliff, where much more happens. Also was rather noisy in the mornings!

A small collection of chalets on top of the cliff away from the main 'drag', beautiful view from the cliff tops down to the sea/beach. Short walk from the beach (a few minutes from beach and restaurants). The owner Shiv was helpful and sorted us out taxis to get to our next accommodation. Chalets were small but comfortable, outside furniture could have been a little more comfortable and plentiful to make the nice grassy area a better place to hang out and read.
