“Peaceful and clean”
Reviewed 4 February 2013 via mobile

We stayed at Varkala Marine Palace for three nights and were picked up at the airport by appointment with VMP. Booking and communication before getting there worked well, quick replies and good service. Paying through Western Union money transfer was not to our convenience, so I hope they will do something about that. Our room facing the sea was kind of cool in spite of not having AC with the sea breeze coming in. There was a great sense of peace and quiet around the hotel. The room was spacious and cleaned every day. Then towels and bed linen was changed. The location was great for our needs - the beach nearby, restaurants and the north cliff ten minutes walk away.

The restaurant had an extensive menue but didn't pay much intention to us. We had breakfast there, sometimes lunch but for our needs the service was too slow and indifferent for dinner. The wifi worked fine, one network for the restaurant and another for the rooms.

We went as a party of 6 persons with two of the party celebrating a 21st and a 23rd birthdays respectivly a lovely time was had by all of us the rooms were of a very high standard always cleaned with fresh towels each morning and candles and incense sticks placed in rooms each night the staff could not be more helpfull and always smiling and happy nothing was too much trouble for Bhasker including organising changing of money to ordering a tuk tuk. There were some noticable changes inc a new building for the kitchens and the garden area and the reception also a new shower block and toilets were of a very high standard inc soap and fresh towels. The resturant was suberb the lads were more than happy to explain the menu the food was always freshly prepared and the fish was excellent.I cannot recommend Varkala Marine Palace highly enough we all had a lovely time and will certainly be booking through Bhasker next year a big thank you to all
just a few tips regarding the beach
If having lounger or brolly try to have correct money as a few days i did'nt recieve change150 rs lounger 150 rs brolly

By far the best location, the best staff and the best rooms....could not have asked for anything better. The USP- The manager in Mr Bhasker-ever smiling and helpful, goes beyond the call of duty to ensure happiness on the face of the guests. Next to the beach gives the best of the worlds. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: First floor room 19 good for small family

Spent 11 nights here in January. Great location at the south end of the beach. Excellent staff run by Bhasker and Vishnu who really understand the meaning of Customer Service - they will do their best to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one. Cleanliness of the rooms is the best I have had in 3 months in India, a thorough clean every day with fresh sheets and towels, lovely fragrant flowers each day that make the room smell fantastic....little things that make the big difference!
The restaurant out front has an ideal location for sunsets and food is very good.
Excellent laundry service and wifi from several locations.
Power drops in and out from time to time, but not for very long - Highly recommend this place to stay.
Thanks guys! - I had a great time at your place and will return next time i'm in Varkala :)

Room Tip: I had room 7, which was fine - next time I would prefer a room with some natural light and perhaps a...

We had visitied Goa a few years ago and knew that it had now lost its "exclusiveness" We opted for Kerala in search of an unspoilt glimpse at Southern India and in Kerala we truly found it. Leaving our booking so late we were unable to get anywhere but when I e-mailed the Varkala Marine Palace. Babu Bhasker was more then helpful and slotted us in even though it meant a room change half way through our stay. When we arrived it was the very early hours of the morning and our room was not "ours" until lunchtime. Vishnu, the manager very kindly gave us a small room for us to sleep in until then. We cannot fault the kindness and willingness to make our stay in this beautiful resort as wonderful as possible. We were in the minority as we were staying for a couple of weeks on our honeymoon while others were using it for a few nights in between travel. The rooms we stayed in were very clean and new bedding and towels daily, beach towels and mats were also provided for the beach. We had relaxing chairs and a hammock on our balcony to relax in while listening to the sounds of the birds and unwound to the aroma of insense that was placed outside all the rooms in the evening. I asked if there was any chance of borrowing a hairdrier and was provided with one for the entire stay even though I suspected it belonged to one of the staff it was no problem. The restaurant has excellent food and a great atmosphere. As with everywhere in Kerala everything is cooked to order so be prepared to wait, but it is well worth waitiing for. We had breakfast included and although we didn't generally make it until past 11.00 we were never rushed or felt we were a nuisance. We had originally wanted to stay in a guest house but after being out on a few trips, organised by Mr Bhasker the owner, we realised that we could not have picked a better place to stay, or a better location. It truly was perfect in every way from the accomodation, cleanliness, helpfulness, friendliness, value for money, beaches, food etc etc. If you want a true experience of Kerala while being comfortable with immaculate lodgings, then this is the place. All rooms have mosquito nets over the beds and screens on the windows, we were not bitten once, there was no air-con but not needed as the Arabian sea breeze keeps you cool and there are overhead fans as well as floor standing ones if you want. The beach is on the doorstep. Our first room was downstairs and then we moved upstairs but all the rooms are lovely, If you are reading this wondering where to stay then look no further, you will not find anything more perfect. We went on a couple of 3-4 hours trips to elephant festivals, temples and the Tuk Tuk drivers were all known to Vishnu and Mr Bhasker and they were also excellent often diverting us to other sights that they knew about. There was no hard sell about anything and we have arrived home properly realxed with wonderful memories. Thank you

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 16 and 19. 16 was downstairs, tall ceilings, facing the sea but you can't see...

We stayed here again over Christmas 2012. We had requested the same room as last and this was provided. Still spacious, this time with a more useful (to us) table and chairs rather than single bed. Spotlessly clean with an unbeatable terrace. No rush to settle our bill and, although we were offered to have tours organised, no further hassle when we declined. It is lovely to have immediate access to the beach unlike most of the hotels which are cliff top, beach towels and sun mats provided. Not ideal for the infirm but that was not an issue for us.
The only disappointment was the restaurant, we had not eaten there last time, so made a point of it this time. We found poor service, a rude response to our questions and food not as good as elsewhere in Varkala. This certainly did not affect our enjoyment of VMP and would not stop us returning as there are plenty of other places to eat locally.

Room Tip: We liked the room with a large terrace, no air con but not necessary with airy room and floor fans.

My Norwegian family and friends(9 people) stayed here during Christmas and New year. We where very happy with the hotel, premises and restaurant. The place is ideally located close the beach, and the rooms are spacious and cleaned every day with new towel/blankets(++). Aircondition was not missed as the fans and mosquito nets did the job well and made the whole experience more Indian. Bhasker and his crew are friendliness themselves and they did everything possible to make our stay perfect. For many of our group this was their first Indian experience. The unique possibility to come back to the hotel to relax, read or have a nice meal was highly appreciated after interesting, busy but sometimes challenging Indian holiday experiences.
