“THE MAGICAL PARADISE ON EARTH”
Review of Muktagiri

Reviewed 21 September 2012

FOR JAINS: Muktagiri is one of the most ancient and a very important religious place. There are many true examples of miracles taking place here. One person(from Delhi) who used to limp previously got rid of his crutches after taking darshan of this miraculous teerthakshetra (He has even given his photos, signature and contact address on a board at the base temple,so as to prove that this is not a lie.He now visits Muktagiri regularly and can be contacted.).If one is totally devoted to the jain tirthankars, one must visit this place. The temple no.26 is said to be very miraculous. There are 52 temples on the mountain and 1 temple at the base.
And for NON JAINS: I talked to many non jains on my visit here. The non jains(Hindus,Punjabis etc) liked the place very much for its exclusive temples,it's miracles, the natural beauty, and the waterfall. They felt devoted to the jain gods and appreciated the Jain teerthakshetra. The natural beauty here is probably the best in INDIA.All basic amenities like food,accomodation(1/2 bed rooms),lockers etc. is available at very reasonable costs.Food prepared strictly according to Jain traditions is available at modest prices in 2 messes.A huge Dharmashala (having many rooms) is available for accomodation.Bedding, blankets, pillows, buckets, mugs etc are available at cheap rates.Visit this place to experience the Jain antiquity and attain inner peace.

This is a religious place of Jain, however most people travel here to view the beautiful ranges from temple at the top of the mountain, feel the fresh air and experience the most peaceful and divine feeling of being one with Mother Nature, the God.

Muktagiri is a religious holy place of Digamber Jain. It is Betul district of Madhya Pradesh. The good approach roads are from Maharashtra as it is on the MP - Maharashtra border. The nearest town is Paratwada (Achalpur). There is a main temple at the base and 52 other temples on the mountain. The temples are of various 24 tirthankaras of Jain Religion. You have to climb the steep stairs for about 30 minutes and then you can see all the temples. A few temples are in caves. You are not allowed to wear any shoes using the stairs. All the temples are nicely numbered from 1 to 52.

You can see a beautiful panorama of the Satpuda mountain range from the temples. During monsoon the hills are lush green and there are lot of small water falls which gives a beautiful view of the temple.

There is Dharamshala here with many rooms with basic facility. There is a small canteen where breakfast, lunch and dinner is available at a very reasonable rate. The lunch and dinner starts from Rs. 30 only which is quiet cheap. Do not expect much delicacies here as the food prepared is as per the norms and beliefs of the Jain religion. You have to place the order an hour early for the food.

If you do not want to stay in Dharamshala, you can stay in some hotel in Paratwada which is 14 Kms. Another attraction near to this place is Chikhaldara which is a small hill station in Amravati district about 50 Kms from here.

If you are not a Jain, avoid visiting here on Sundays as it is a prayer time and other religious functions time for them. On Sundays other tourists are not allowed after 11 AM. There is a nominal entry fees of Rs. 10 for non Jains.

If you love nature and want to feel the God, do visit here. It's a worth religious place for all religious. Everybody is welcome.
