In Khajuraho we had three options to choose from at MP Tourism and am glad we chose the tourist village. Relatively new and still in an experimental stage, there are a few things that need to be ironed out, but its definitely value for money.

Just one warning, if you book an extra bed, not only does it get cramped, but unlike other places of MP Tourism, only extra mattresses are provided (though they do give 2, if requested).

The ambience and feel of the place is its true USP. the rooms are actually made to resemble village cottages from the doors to the slanting ceiling etc but with modern amenities. The village feel has been recreated in an amazing manner and the grounds are very pretty. However, where there are grounds, there will be bugs and ants only too eager to enter the room so be a bit careful. Also the staff is very co-operative and friendly and on request provide various bug killing sprays etc.

The AC in our room was not functioning properly and the hot water also left a bit to be desired, but these, in my view were minor irritations. However, if you love your creature comforts too much, you may want to rethink about the place.

The options in the restaurant re really limited especially for a place like khajuraho but then again whatever they do provide is simple and delicious and prepared to your exact liking if requested. While reaching the place though one might feel as if the entirety of khajuraho has been passed, the place is actually very close to the western group of temples which are the main attraction in khajuraho.

The staff and the people manning the village retreat were really amazing and very helpful. On the whole had a brilliant stay and would definitely love to stay again.

The hotel is run by MPTDC and is quite away from the western group of temples. The location makes it a very quiet place. When we visited there were not many people in the resort maybe because it was April.
The cottages are nicely done though they can do better with the door locks. Bathroom was clean and so were the linen.
What I really liked was their attempt to create a village like environment though they have a long way to go it was nice and not overly done. Food was also good. We had breakfast and dinner. Room service at dinner time was quick and efficient. We booked the hotel at the tourism kiosk at the railway station and got a 10% discount.

Room Tip: Try booking at the railway station for a discount.

I was suggested this hotel by Tourist Info Counter at Khajuraho Railway Station. This was my first cottage experience and its best till date. The cottages are spacious and have classic wooden furniture. Mine was a deluxe AC, toilet attached. The wooden post bed and mosquito net felt very royal. You get a verandah which is very private (arranged such that no 2 cottages face each other) large enough to seat 3-4 people. The toilet is big and clean, with geyser. The whole site is developed as a village and you’ll find some swings/hammock for fun.
Hotel staff is very courteous. When I reached there they paid my auto fare as I was out of cash. I had north Indian food and it was delicious and reasonable price.
The hotel is approx. 2 kms from Western group of temples (also the nearest place to find ATM, food outlets and general stores). It’s not easy to find an auto from the hotel (the staff may arrange it on request but you may be charged more in that case). If you are not a taxi guy, I suggest that you book an auto on daily basis (usually available in 300 INR max) or be on foot like me.

I, my wife and kid checked into Tourist Village (an MPTDC hotel) for 1 night as part of a tour of MP in Oct 2012. We reached the place by road from Bandavgarh wildlife sanctuary. We got there rather late evening as the drive was slow, thanks to poor and narrow roads.

Our first impression was quite good as the reception staff were prompt in getting us settled into our room. The room was weird in design with a massive solid wooden door that you had to lock like any simple village dwelling- just a large crude latch. I later realized the room was designed with a village theme and laughed at myself for missing this earlier. The room was air conditioned, but rather cramped as there was hardly any space to comfortably move around after allowing for 3 beds. The room's chairs had to be put out to accommodate the third bed. Anyway this was no major issue as hotel rooms are places to stretch your legs on the bed and relax and not have a tennis match. The toilet was quite good with plenty of space, and the staff had provided good complimentary toiletries and towels.

The hotel has a set of bicycles for those who wish to explore Khajuraho by themselves. The restaurant was also good, with very obliging staff. The hotel is some 2 km from the western group of temples, the main attraction of Khajuraho. We had time for a sound and light show on the night we landed, as well as time to tour the temples the next morning.

I definitely recommend Hotel Tourist Village for couples and families who wish to visit Khajuraho.

My family of 4 stayed at the MP Tourism Development Corporation's Tourist Village at Khajuraho. Being a government property, the room rent is very reasonable. The rooms are clean and are in the form of village huts with charming rural paintings on the walls. Geyser, TV, bathroom fittings, AC - all were in excellent working condition, the linen clean, the tea-coffee-kit adequate, and the staff helpful and friendly. The hotel has a restaurant with limited meal options (and no dessert!) but because a stay at Khajuraho is unlikely to exceed 2 - 3 days, you can work your way through the menu :-) They provided us with a guide who was very good (we need to pay the guide separately at the govt approved rates).

There are cycles that you can rent (to go around sightseeing), which we did not need because we had driven there in our own car.

Breakfast is complimentary - included in the room rent.

I'll definitely want to stay in this hotel again if I ever visit Khajuraho again.
