After hiking most of the state, we got to explore the area around Amalia this fall thanks to the delightful (and hugely informative) Lawrence and Mary Ann. The cabin, ranch, breakfast, company, and overall environment were just perfect. When I expect to cook somewhere I usually bring things from my own kitchen, as they will not be present in the kitchen at the cabin. Not so, here. Well equipped kitchen in a cozy cabin warmed by the sun during the day and wood stove by night. Can't wait to return!

When we arrived, MW Bar Ranch was bathed in the golden sunlight of a late New Mexico summer afternoon. This initial vision of the picturesque sprawling ranch aptly reflects our stay there in mid-August. It was our third visit in the past few years and each time I treasure more the peace and quiet, the many homey comforts, the thoughtfulness that has gone into every detail, and the calm and gracious welcome of hosts Lawrence and Mary Ann who obviously love what they do. The breakfast was wonderful and I had to be peeled away from the table to get an early morning start. Although we travel a great deal, this is still one of my favorite places.

This was our first trip to the Valle Vidal area for fishing and relaxation and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay at. The accomodations were very nice and cozy. We stayed in the cabin and it was very comfortable and had everything we needed to enjoy a nice BBQ dinner. Our hosts Lawrence and MaryAnn are very welcoming and friendly, and we really enjoyed our conversation with them. Breakfast was excellent! The fishing on the property was really fun with nice pools, bends, and shade structure to go after the rainbows/cutbows/cutthroats. The property is very close to Valle Vidal so we will definitely plan on going back. I almost didn't want to do this so it would remain a nice secret!

We go up to the Valle Vidal each summer and have always stayed quite far away....in Red River or Questa. From now on, we will stay at the MW Bar Ranch. Mary Ann and Lawrence are excellent hosts, very friendly and helpful but not too talkative or involved as some B & B hosts we have experienced. The house is so well designed and tastefully furnished with wonderful southwestern pieces. We stayed in the North Room upstairs, very spacious, with a pretty view and lovely furnishings-- and everything you could need, right down to the nightlight in the private bathroom. The grounds are beautiful too, with Adirondack chairs overlooking the river and cliffs, a picnic table under the trees, pretty gardens and potted plants, and their five horses in the pasture. The back deck was our favorite. We sat out there during an amazing thunderstorm one evening and every other chance we could, just to watch the MANY hummingbirds that come to their 5 or 6 feeders. The breakfasts were delicious and filling and very enjoyable as we conversed with the other guests and Mary Ann. We learned that Mary Ann has always wanted to own a B & B, and she has certainly accomplished that--with much grace, hospitality and style. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back!

Room Tip: Look at their website to see which room best meets your needs....and if you want to stay in July, book early!

Great accommodations, great scenery, great food & two finer hostess & host you will never meet !! Just a few miles to the water you want to fish. Couldn't ask for a better setup! Can't wait to get back!

Room Tip: Adjacent cottage is a great setup for two fly fishermen. Has kitchen, stove, frig & coffee pot!
