“Stories from the past in a beautiful environment”
Reviewed 19 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

I thoroughly enjoyed the five days I spent at Kila Dalijoda. Debjit and his family are wonderful hosts, and they bring to life the past history of the house and of their own Rajput families. Namrata is a born storyteller, and she has a special talent for recreating the past with her words... 7 years old Shreevidya is a special child, with a love for magic and stories... I enjoyed exploring the garden with her. And Debjit is a great guide, with an eye for détails and a deep respect for the environment. The walks and tours with him were fascinating. Both Debjit and Namrata love birds, and pointed out all the beautiful species that visit the grounds and the forest. I wish I could listen again to the Mynah concert in the trees at twillight...

I am a vegetarian, and the family was very attentive and careful to provide me with delicious meals with organic produce from the garden.

I have visited India every year for the past 12 years, and my stay at Kila Dalijoda remains a highlight! I hope to come back soon...

“A breath of fresh air...for your soul, body and taste buds.”
Reviewed 13 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

How should we start? Let's try it with a single sentence. This stay was an experience we don't want to miss ever.
The passion and love Debjit, Namrata and the little princess Shreevidya put into this lifetime project is wonderful to witness. You don't just stay in a so called homestay. You are invited to experience life from a totally different point of view. Surrounded by nature, tribal villages and an elephant sanctuary you are welcomed with open arms and an open heart by the whole family. If the house could speak, it would tell you nightlong stories about history, partys, families, love, fights and food and joy, let's say, life at its fullest. Debjits family brings life back into this old walls with the respect for nature and the delicate balance of the complete environment. The food you will experience here is made with ingredients from the own garden, the milk and ghee of their own cows, the fish of their own lakes and the recipes are selected from the family aswell as from the local origin. And the food was so delicious, we have no words for that.
Unfortunately we had only two nights time. So we have no other choice. We have to come back and we look forward to that.

“A great experience at a true Homestay”
Reviewed 7 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

I visited Kila Dalijoda with my elderly, but active, father and we would both rate it as one of the best experiences so far in India (and we have done a lot of travelling in India over many years). Unfortunately we could only stay for one night and wish we could have stayed for longer...but with Debjit taking us on 'tour' and the help of a late check out we managed to see and learn a lot in the time we visited...at the same time we felt relaxed and really enjoyed everything we did. It was so good to get out in the peaceful countryside of India.

We were made very welcome by Debjit, Namrata, and Shreevidya, who are a very interesting and friendly family. The food was very good and we enjoyed fresh veges grown in their garden, milk from their cows and fish from their large pond.
The large house (a 1930's hunting lodge) still has a lot of renovation to be done, and it was really nice to see the effort being put in to revive it. The area being used as a homestay is very comfortable. We booked a room with twin beds, and were given a huge and very comfortable suite, with a lounge area. On the first afternoon Debjit took us on a drive to a nearby tribal village where we saw bullocks threshing the freshly harvested rice paddy. Then we visited an old-age home for cows!

In the morning after breakfast Debjit took us on a long walk to another local tribal village which was no road access or electricity. It was a really enjoyable walk (~7km round trip) through forest area. He has good relations with the village people, and shared a lot of interesting information. I think it would also be great to cycle through the villages on the bikes he has, but as my Dad is in his 80's we didn't try that option.

All in all, a great experience for anyone who is interested in Indian village and rural life.

Congratulations to Debjit & Namratha for creating and providing a wonderful home-stay experience and sharing your lives with us. We wish you and Sree Divya all the best..and would love to visit again sometime should we ever have the chance to come to Odisha again.

“A wonderful peaceful homestay, and fishing too.”
Reviewed 31 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

We stayed for 5 days, and it was fantastic after the hustle and bustle of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. We were made more than welcome by Debjit, Namrata, and Shreevidya, and were treated like family for our stay. The food was excellent, home grown and cooked to our taste, Debjit took us on a walk to a local tribal village which was wonderful, we also drove to a village where there was a lot of cottage industry, people making Saris and bronze artifacts, which we bought a few, and it was good to see the money going to the village. We then took a drive to a Crocodile reserve where we went on a boat trip up a river, and got up close with Crocs, Fish Eagles, Monkeys and other birds and animals. I did some fishing in the local lake, and river, with Debjit, and despite lots of fish activity, they didn't want to take our bait, but next time.... We went on a lovely evening cycle ride (flat quiet roads) saw people milling rice, and a cow retirement home, then watched a local football match, Debjit and Shreevidya cycled with us. The house was lovely, and our room was great, lovely views from the roof terrace. Shreevidya(7 years old) entertained us with her dancing and music playing, Debit and Namrata were great in explaining all the history of the house and the area. All in all a fantastic stay and we will be going back.

“Quite unique and unusual”
Reviewed 23 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

Our charming hosts Debjit and Namrata could not have done enough to.make us feel at home. It was a delight to meet Shreevidya as well with her joy of life and to enjoy all that she was making and doing. I'm sure she ll become someone special.
Our stay was one of the most memorable experiences we had in Orissa. The walk to the tribal village. All the signs of the elephants! The people we met. All added up to an experience that was very rich and something we ll always remember. In a very special way.
We loved our meals with you and deeply appreciated the care and trouble you went to in introducing special tastes and experiences. Such a lovely idea to give us a tribal meal on leaf plates in the garden. Thank you for everything.

“A place to return to”
Reviewed 12 January 2017 for a stay in November 2016

In March 2015 we have spent unforgettable days in Kila Dalijoda.
In November 2016 we returned with four friends and again we were received warmly by Debjit and Namrata.
Our friends also enjoyed the spacious, clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms as well as the delicious meals prepared with the organic vegetables from their garden, their own dairy products and fish from the fish ponds.
We took a walk with Debjit to a tribal village and learned a lot of things about tribal-rural life and customs, a deeper insight into rural Indian life.
Bird watchers also can rely on the knowledge of Debjit.

All of us enjoyed the days in Kila Dalijoda and we would have liked to stay longer in this delightful place. Should we visit Orissa in the future, we will certainly return again.

“Exotic location, awesome food, perfect hosts...”
Reviewed 12 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

This was our first home-stay so I was bit skeptical. But as soon as we met Debjit & family, we realized that this is going to be one of our most memorable stay.
Guest rooms are restored elegantly. You've quite a few options for 'things to-do'. Debjit himself took us thru' a forest trail to a beautiful, secluded village. But I'll personally prefer this as the best place to stay & 'Do Nothing'...! very relaxing surroundings....!
We are a vegetarian family & hosts really took care of that. In fact, we tasted some of the best delicacies of our lifetime during the stay. Authentic traditional recipes & locally grown vegetables have their own magical taste here.
The couple themselves are full of stories & anecdotes spanning over vast period. Both are remarkable hosts. Not to forget their cute little daughter, who became part of our family & even joined us for excursion.
Best wishes for challenging restoration task on their hand....
