“Pleasant stay, great location.........fun staff”
Reviewed 20 October 2009

Had a lovely room here and stayed four nights or so. Really clean room and nice and quite. I went on a camel safari for a half day which included dinner ar sunset and this was plenty of time on the camel.........no pains the next day. All the staff made me feel very welcome and we had great laughs up in the rooftop restaurant where Shiva and Kamal and Museli aka Bruce Lee kept me fed and entertained. Had a really great time here and the fort is amazing. Hopefully I'll be back one day. Thanks Avi .....Hugh Heffner! Oh and free pick up at crazy early time from the bus stop was so appreciated.

I loved staying at this hotel as i got along with all the staff and Avi especially. quite a few were camel boys before and i liked hearing about their camels and their way of life in the desert.

i stayed a night here and also took a camel safari option with a night's stay in the dunes through Avi. food was ok but about 5-10 rupees more compared to restaurants in the city, room was clean and well appointed. the rooftop has a full view of the fort.

best part is the 5am pickup in Avi's cool 6 person jeep from the train, he was standing there with my name, and then he dropped me off at the train station

i am not happy about them charging me 550rs for a room that was 500rs on the website.
and the safari started with a 9am departure due to a tyre problem as per Avi and ended at 1.30pm instead of 3pm. but for the price, it included having a room to shower and rest in before my 18 hour train ride to delhi, so i am taking it all in stride.

overall, a good stay but make sure you are ready to haggle and stand your ground about prices.

Jaisalmer was the last place I visit in India last year and staying at the Jeet Mahal was a very good choice. Rooms are great as they are in a havelis. Very romantic! Even at my own :)
The location is OK. Just on the small road between the fortress and the lake . Here you can book several tours but they're not pushing you. Very relaxing atmosphere with a nice staff.
I became seriously ill during my stay there and they helped me really in a great way.
So, I can recommend this havelis strongly.

My friend and I had a fantastic stay here. It was the first and last place we stayed where we felt at home, comfortable, among friends and in the most charming of hotels.

Avinash (Yogi), his brother and the staff were so friendly, chatty, funny and helpful. They made sure we were well taken care of. To imagine it was also one of the least expensive places we stayed in during our one month trip. We loved it so much we stayed longer than planned and even went on the camel trip.

The rooms are beautifully decorated and the charm of its 200 year old heritage is intoxicating. The beds were comfortable and if you inform them, they ensure the hot water is turned on for whatever time you need in the morning. The rooftop terrace has lovely home cooked food and great view of the palace. The hotel is in a fantastic location and a short walk from anywhere you would want to go.

After we left we missed our late night chats and guys. They even gave us a recording of the music we listened to. If you want to stay in a comfortable, charming place and make some friends... stay here!

A tip for the camel trip.... don't give money or sweets or anything to the children. Better to give money through the tour guide to the head of the village, for the development of the village. We had a frightful experience when we arrived at a village and the children were viciously trying to get money and anything from us. We had brought some little toys and when we tried to give them out they snatched them out of our hands and refused to share with each other. There is no proper school in the village and they have been taught to ask for money from the tourists so they don't know any better. We spoke to the guides afterwards who were embarrassed about the (scary) event. They informed us that rather than get yourself in an awkward position prepare in advance and speak to the hotel guys or the guides about how to help the village. Surely its better to contribute to a village school and its improvement then give out sweets etc to these kids.

If I were to return to Jaisalmer I wouldn't stay anywhere else but Jeetmahal.

I stayed in Jeet Mahal for a few nights in June, and really liked it. The room was lovely, restaurant was good, and the best thing was the really friendly staff. They give you lot of advise if you need it and you can simply have a good chat and a laught with them.

They can book train/ bus tickets for you, but I advise against it, as it's cheaper to get them yourself.

All in all, great value for money, would definitely go back there.

My friends and I stayed at the JeetMahal for several days during our Rajasthan trip. The hotel owner picked us up from the train station and up to our cute 3-bed room near the top of this old building. From the rooftop, we were treated to an excellent view of the fort & old city and our taste buds were satisfied with the always-tasty food by the warm, genuine chef. The hotel owner brothers appeared friendly, but sometimes the information given seemed a bit contradictory. We booked a safari with the hotel and were very pleased with our camel drivers.
The Hotel JeetMahal is on a narrow but important pathway of the old city. During our stay, two processions went past the hotel, providing excellent photo opportunities. The hotel was clean and hot water is available, provided you ask for the stove to be "stoked" beforehand.
A pleasant stay.

We stayed 2 nights at Jeet Mahal and enjoyed every minute. After a long and stuffy train ride we were welcomed at the door by the friendly, helpful and honest owners, Avinash, Bhupesh and Chandra.
The Maharani room was spacious and clean with a great bathroom (hot shower) and TV. The bed was huge. Good value for money.

At breakfast we enjoyed great views of the fort and could see the main gate from our table. A great location.

Camel safaris are a huge part of Jaisalmer and there many different options but we chose to book ours through Chandra at the hotel. It was a great experience and avoided all of the standard touristy areas most camel treks go to. We slept under the stars on some rolling sand dunes in comfy and warm bed rolls around a camp fire. The camel drivers were friendly, very obliging and great cooks. More Chapati??

We feel we made some friends in Jaisalmer and will return to Jeet Mahal next time to visit.
