“perfect stay”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

Our stay at Hotel Nirmal Haveli was most enjoyable. Mister Mahendra Singh took care of us right from the start by picking us up from the bus stop by car. He organized a Jeep and a driver for us so that we as a group of 6 people could move around easily. All in all we felt cared of by his awesome character and his readiness to help us. Our room downstairs was more than expected with a nice decoration and tv and a lighting that made the room really atmospheric and roomy. Comfortable bed. Food in the rooftop restaurant was great with a home-cooked touch in it. Great great parathas the hotel-boys make!

Hotel Nirmal Haveli offered modern facilities (like nicely working wi-fi and a phone-service from the room to the reception) and comfort. Especially the area of haveli was really great in all it's quietness compared to the inner city which was near by though, like 800 meters to the fort. Every morning we cold enjoy our chai in peace instead of never-ending honking sounds. Personal thank you for all the staff!

Friends -- let me first apologize for this lo..ong review -- but being a Desination Expert on Tripadvisor, it is my duty to present an honest evaluation of this property which is highly over rated on TA and hence might be misleading to the common reader. If anyone goes through the 52 earlier reviews of this Hotel, you will notice 22 reviews from persons with just 1 review -- out of which 20 have rated this as 5 stars. After experiencing this hotel for a couple of days, I have an entirely different opinion which is as follows :-

1) Size & Location :- This is a small property with just 9 rooms and based on the seasonal rush, the owner conveniently categorises most of his rooms as Super Deluxe, which is incorrect. It is located approx 0.8 kms from the main ring road, but in a very dusty locality, with broken roads etc -- which is still acceptable. However, the area being new and undeveloped, has open sewage drains which lead to a continuous foul smell coming into the room ( via the toilet ventilator, which does not have a window). We tried to minimise the impact with some toilet refresher ( Odonil) but finally had to seal off the ventilator using newspapers !!! Just to inform all of you -- we chose a rear facing room, which opened out to the empty fields -- since the front facing Super Delux rooms opened into another hotel located just 10 feet away !!!

2) General Administration :- The owner owns and manages another hotel located inside the fort and is therefore not available most of the times. The hotel is grossly understaffed and is managed by a 6 year old boy (Chotu), a very nice cook (Gopi) and a couple of other helpers. While this may not be an issue during off season, this was a real challenge for all of us during the peak season and I could hear many other residents shouting at the staff for quicker service.

3) Hotel Amenities :- The bed was old and horribly inconvenient with the mattress springs poking us hard. We were contemplating to sleep on the floor on a cold Dec night but luckily the owner gave us a foam topper that we placed on top of the mattress and managed the show. Hot water is virtually non-existent -- they have an ancient water boiler that is heated using firewood and takes ages to heat up. All of us went without a bath for the 2 days that we stayed here. And finally, the water in the washroom contained a lot of sand -- not sure if this was the water supplied by the city authorities or water arranged by the hotel using deep tube wells and pump. Also can you believe that the hotel staff actually told me that they do not have glasses for drinking water and fruit juice was served in tea cups !!!

4) General feeling :- The owner seemed to be a nice man but gave me the impression that he was happy and content with the present setup and facilities of the hotel -- and not much interested in improving the same. Even the main reception area was untidy and dimly lit which the owner did not want to acknowledge. The cooking is above average, but the hotel only has an open air roof top restaurant with just 4 tables -- which is a big challenge during cold nights and if the hotel is packed to capacity.

Overall I would very strongly recommend all to avoid this hotel and do not make the mistake that I did by getting carried away with the earlier reviews or pics

This is an excellent place to stay in. We arrived Jaisalmer at 12.30 pm in the afternoon and we have been sent a van from the hotel for the pickup though we were not expecting that.

Nirmal Haveli is a relatively new hotel, modern amenities and super friendly staff with very beautiful and comfortable rooms. Great Property to stay at reasonable Price. Delicate taste in decoration, spacious and cozy as well. It has a rooftop restaurant very nice to chill and relax. We enjoyed good Indian Food every time (traditional Rajasthani food was just awesome).

Location is great since it is very near from the fort but distant enough to be away from the noise. Still the best was the hospitality with which we were received, from all staff but especially from the owner, Mr. Vinod. He was always ready to help and he himself organized the desert camp for us, took us to the dessert where we saw traditional music and dancing and enjoyed Sunrise & Sunset the most.

Everything he had done for us was so overwhelming with that hospitality and warmth. We felt like being among family, and spent a wonderful time.
If you want a pleasant stay, Nirmal haveli is one really good option.

Hotel is located in a quite place, but only 1 km from city centre. Rooms are like Haveli touch... quite big ad very well decorated. Its a very small hotel and owner of the hotel is very friendly and very nice person. He will try to give you all the details, all the facilities he could. Other staffs are also very nice, rooms are clean. Food is very tasty and not too expensive also .. you will feel like at home ..

Very nice and friendly place. Situated in a quiet area and nevertheless near the fort.
Good rooms with attached bathrooms. Very pleasant rooftop restaurant, all veg.
The owner likes to come in the morning and have a good talk with the clients.
Extremely decent prices.

Don't go with the pictures. They are miss-leading. This is a small average hotel with no telephone service. Its a one man show - a man running around every room to serve the customers. Every time you need something you have to come down at the reception where you may not find anyone to attend you. Its frustrating. Our A/c was non-functional. The attendant tried to sell his argument that its perfectly fine. After repeated complaints he brought the mechanic to check the a/c and found that its condenser was burnt out and that it will take another day to repair it. Worst he could not offer us another room saying that everything was sold out. Most surprising there is no manager as such for this hotel. It is run by a family and due to Diwali season they were severely short of staff. We paid for a super-deluxe room and ended up staying in a non-a/c room. The hotel itself is at a corner (dead end) slightly difficult to locate. Hotel is partly under construction. Breakfast served was limited but ok. All in all an average stay. May not recommend.

Room Tip: Avoid higher rooms if you stay here. Reception will be far away to call someone.
