“Good fort”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

Inside fort is habitated. Along the roads shops and hotels are located. Not very well maintained. The perfomrnace of folk artists inside the fort are however very good. Outside fort one cab purchase the JAipuri turban and take photographs inside the fort. From the top the view of yellow city of Jaipur is really very good.

“Jaisalmer Fortress”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

The fortess was the biggest fortress we have visited in Rajasthan and if you stay close to Jaisalmer you should go there. Lots of narrow streets and small temples. The people hold down their jobs and you get a great idea of how they have lived 30 years ago and how they live now. In some areas of that fortess it didn't change much. Very interesting!

“Heart of Golden City”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

This Fort is not just another tourist spot of Jaisalmer, its a lively town with old days structure but with all amenities of modern time. This is the only fort in India which is still full of life in and outside equally. One can visit various temples, Palaces, antique markets, Canon Points as tourist points. This fort has many good restaurants and bakeries for food lovers. One can get very good deal out of bargain on leather goods and souvenirs here.

P.S.: don't be trapped in so called "Camel Leather" goods as told by shopkeepers. 95% of leather good available in market are from buffalo, Ox and bull's skin only.

Happy Travelling!!!

“Needs a traffic policeman to check the pesky resident motorcycle riders!”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

From the outside, the Sonarkila, or the Golden Fortress (Jaisalmer Fortress) is an impressive & grand structure. It's very intimidating and important. However, once you are inside and walk those narrow lanes, you'll be constantly interrupted by the pesky resident motorcycle riders honking every two minutes until your ears and mind go crazy with those irritating 'trritts, tritts'!
We were trying to explore and enjoy the ancient architectures in the fortress compound but were constantly interrupted until we headed for the Jain temple, which offered a much needed peace and quietness!

Without those noisy resident riders, I think Jaisalmer Fortress would be a top class monument in India. Maybe they should think of alternate mode of transport or use MTBs!

“The only fort in India where people still live!”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

Its amazing to see people actually staying inside the fort. There are many souvenir shops and eateries like any other tourist place. One can get cups and collectibles made from fossil rock which is a novelty. There are a couple of view points which house cannons => they offer a good view of the golden city. The fort also houses a Jain temple and Maharaja's palace/museum which are worth giving a visit.
