It is a living fort, one of the rare ones and that makes one appreciate the days gone and how it must have been.
Good to shop too

We decided to visit the fort in the morning at 8 to avoid the harsh sun.
Its important to take a guide so we did and a tuk tuk to the gate.
Saves time and energy. Without a guide it would be really difficult to find your way around.
We took him for fort as well as haveli visit.
The jain temple was spectacular. Simply amazing. The raja rani mahal splendid. Though lizards freaked me out. The artifacts really cool. Its not that necessary to take a camera pass unless you want to click the city view which is pretty cool.

Being an avid traveler in India .. And a bit of abroad, I had heard a lot about the beauty of Jaisalmer. When I finally got to see the city, I did not find it engaging enough to stay there more than 2 days. Havelis are OK kinds, but one exception to the mundaneness around was the Jaisalmer fort. Loved the color and hugeness and also the lighting. It does give a European feeling inside with cool cafes and confectioners. Only if you are from Delhi, keep the buying side of you reserved for Dilli baat when you get back. Prices of even simple memoirs are overly high.

A living fortress, even to date & a must visit for travellers.

The temples inside & the architecture are note worthy.

I was there in the dry heat of June. Despite the heat the setting Is magic but instead of aladdins Genies there are a many pleasant families living there in the gloriously carved luminously golden 14th C houses.
