Owner description: Situated 120km North West of Jaisalmer city is Tanot in Thar Desert of Rajasthan. You will find sand dumes all along with small bushes. You can see herds of sheep & goats on the way. Beautiful landscape. Total desert. Nice to see Indira Gandhi Canal full of water after Ramgarh. You can see vegetation & farms near the canal. It is very near to Pakistan border. Last civilian point in India on border. Tanot Rai Mata Temple is an old temple with a history of India Pakistan war of 1965. Hundreds of shells fallen here did not harm the temple. Some bombs are in display at temple. Maintained & managed by Border Security Force of India. Keep food & water with you. Very few population.

the road to destination will make you thrill
A must go to the place just 16 kms from the border. the place is maintained by the BSF people. it makes a nice triangle jaisalmer -tanot rai- longewala-jaisalmer.
tanks full of fuel is recommended and the only mobile network available is BSNL. make sure to take down some food and water. there are some very remote villages you can see in the journey.

jaisalmer-tanot 120kms
tanot- longewala 40 Kms
longewala- jaisalmer 90 kms

Temple was good and clean. Its maintained by BSF. I enjoyed the driving through the lonely roads of desert. You can see the big sand dunes on the way with few abandoned villages.

Jaisalmer trip is incomplet withput visiting Tanot mata temple. Although it is faroff from Jaisalmer(120 Km) towards the Pakistan border, the drive is awesome, riding on straight black road with Desert on the either side. The temple is itself too beautiful, maintained by the BSF folks. its a great feeling to be there.

They say that during 1971 war, Pakistan Bombed this temple but those bomb did not blast.
Although those bomb were later manually defused by army, the ones those are available for show at the temple are not real bombs. The temple is maintained by Indian Army.
