The great part of this hotel is the decor and the location. The views on offer are wonderful as the hotel is located within the walls of the fort. There are several terraces for relaxing and enjoying the views of the fort entrance and the city of Jaisalmer.

We stayed here for two nights and then went on a camel trek with the same company. When we came back, we transferred to their partner hotel the KB Lodge. We stored our luggage at Killa Bhawan and they were supposed to keep it and deliver it to us at their partner hotel KB Lodge when we returned from the camel safari. We had our bags returned with the exception of one of our bags. We let the staff know that we were missing one bag and they offered us no answers or explanations - in fact, the owner suggested that I had probably lost it or had actually never left it with them. Needless to say, they didn't offer any compensation for the bag they lost but I didn't appreciate the fact that they suggested it was my own mistake as to why the bag had disappeared.

The rooms vary in size and comfort. The rooms downstairs can be a bit noisy as they are near the kitchen and right next to the area the owners claim is not the reception area. Between the noise of the kitchen and the noise of them receiving guests and checking people in and out right outside your room, I would suggest to try to get a room upstairs.

The decor is magnificent and this is a place where you might want to stay for a few days. It's peaceful interior and comfortable setting make it a place to remember. It's just unfortunate that I had my experience soured by the loss of my bag while it was in their care.

This is not a 5 star hotel but definitely deserves a stay!

The views are incredible (it is located within the walls of the fort of Jaisalmer) and the place itself is very nice. The rooms are well furnished and clean. The staff is very nice and the owner has transformed this place in a boutique hotel.

We suggest to choose this place to stay in Jaisalmer if you don't worry if you find a cow at the entrance of the hotel: it is India!

Book in advance: due to the low cost it is always full!

The hotel was amazing and exceeded all expectations - the views / decor / location couldn't be beaten. It is expensive but we thought it was worth every penny. We had arrived from Udiapur, including one night at the Lake Palace Hotel and this almost beat it.

Staff are friendly and helpful and though chatty, do give you some space.

We'd recommend the thalis for dinner - the hotel has 5 rooftop terraces so you can have privacy and with views that good, it seems such a shame to eat out.

Some rooms have shared bathrooms but most appear to have fort views. We had the honeymoon suite with our own Romeo / Juliet balcony and almost private courtyard area to chill out in. It was $180 plus taxes but worth it.

I stayed at Killa Bhawan with my husband and three children. We booked the suite which accomodated us very well. The managers of the guesthouse greeted us like family! We would sit and chat with them, get yummy chai tea whenever we wanted. My three-year old got sick and they got me a rickshaw to take us to the doctor, when I had to go back later and the rickshaw did not show up, one of the cousins who runs the place went with me to make sure I got to the right lab and doctor. We stayed for three nights and felt like we did not want to leave.
The hotel is fabulous, tucked in the corner of the fort with some huge terraces and fantastic views of the fort and the bustling street of the entrance to the fort. One night we arranged to have thalis served to us and we just sat on the terrace, enjoying the night eating beautiful rajasthani food that came from the other property of the owner (K.B Lodge).
When we needed something or had questions, Manu and Bintu (the managers) were there for us. And in addition to that, the place is beautiful architectually and very tastefully furnished. I can highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a beautiful friendly place.

This hotel is a small (only 9 rooms), friendly hotel over the entrance to the fort which is Jaisalmer's heart. It was originally a number of private houses which have been converted to this hotel. The room we had was superb - divided into two seperate rooms and having a seperate toilet and shower room. The furnishings were all attractive and bright. Outside there are three seperate terrace areas to sit out on and there is an inside sitting area as well.

One only has to sit outside to be offered tea, coffee, water etc - free and both tea and coffee are delicious and served in thermal canteens.

Breakfast was simple but delicious with toast and eggs on offer and plentyful.

The manager - Mr Parrot or Mr India as he is known is friendly and helpful and the staff all look after you as if you were a guest rather than a customer.

I can think of nothing better than to get up, sit outside the room on the terrace admiring the view, then take a gentle stroll round this fasanating town.

We originally reserved a less expensive room at the K.B. Lodge (same owners as Killa Bhawan) outside the fort in the old city. We arrived late in the evening to find out that the hotel was under construction and that we could not stay there. Management offered to take us to the Killa Bhawan (inside the fort) to stay there instead. We were a bit worried that this was a bait and switch since no one ever notified us of this in any of our email communications. Thankfully it was nothing of the sort.

We were given a very nice room at the rate we originally agreed to that had the most spectacular view. In fact it was so amazing that it was difficult to leave our room for day outings. Rooms were decorated in fabrics of vibrant hand dyed oranges and reds and lovely hardwood furnishings. Right upstairs was the outdoor patio where we could enjoy our breakfast (they had wonderful masala chai) and the view of the sandstone structures and listen to the music from the temple below. An incredible and unique experience.

Brothers Manu and Bhanu were most helpful in a non-intrusive manner with suggestions of places to eat and visit. The Nepalese house boys were so polite and respectful of our space and never overbearing with the service. They were a comforting, quiet presence, always smiling and working hard.

Jaisalmer is an out of the way destination, but well worth it. It has a different feel and atmosphere than other parts of Rajasthan. We didn't realize it until later in our trip, it was probably the most mellow place we visited. And staying at Killa Bhawan made it all the more special.

We stayed here with our 9 and 13 year old daughters for four nights in the cold of winter. The hotel was stunning and service excellent and you will find this hotel and destination charming and unique. We certainly didn't find Manu or any of the staff anything but charming and hospitable. After several days we realised that their "this is your home" comments were entirely genuine. They are in the difficult situation of having to cope with guests arriving on the very early train and others leaving on the night train. Rather than making anyone leave, they allow you to store your luggage in any nook available and then provide endless free chai (incidentally the nicest we had in India), food and anything else you need to be comfortable. Our children loved staying in this 'fairylale castle' and we dream longingly of a return visit. If only NZ was not so far away.
