Wonderful small hotel, built with the local sandstone and nicely decorated. Very friendly staff. They had some plumbing problems at one side of the building, but they went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Great rooftop terrace, nicely decorated, with a view of the fort and nice food. The owner seems to own two more hotels (same street), which may be cheaper. Asked about camel tours only once, and very politely. Would definitely stay again.

The Rough Guide took me to Shahi Palace. The book is sometimes hit and miss but the testimonials on the wall in the office speak for this hotel - letters of gratitude from around the world. Excellent, inexpensive and very friendly staff. The manager, Hemant, speaks very good English and is a great guide for the local area - took a nice drive on his motorbike to see a sunset point with him - the best way to see Jaisalmer. Very nice to escape the hassle of the Golden Triangle. My room is very comfortable - by far the best place I have stayed in India, and the rooftop has excellent views of the fort. The food is excellent too. I would highly recommend staying here. I believe they are opening another hotel too, so look out for that. (November 2013)

Room Tip: Stick to your budget - all rooms are good.

Our arrival and departure times were very odd, so hotel staff was very generous to us and they arranged pick up and drop without even asking. A kudos to staff and thanks a ton. Mr. Swaroop was very very generous. They took care of us as if we are their family and it was really generous. Our baby was sick so they allowed us to shift our tour to next day. He also offered to arrange baby food from his own house. I can't stop thanking him for all this family like treatment. However that is not why I ma giving good rating to hotel. This hotel deserves a best rating.

Room was mid sized and beautifully decorated, had clean sheets and nice warm blanket. Bathroom was nice and clean. We had AC room but din't required to turn it on due to cold weather. View of fort from room was beautiful, watching a lit fort from dark room was really a beautiful experience.

Staff was very helpful, they also advised about places to visit, what are fares for autorickshaws etc. View from roof top restaurant was excellent and memorable. I do believe they need to improve on food quality though. Overall it was a shahi treatment at shahi palace. And we enjoyed our stay and very very impressed with their hospitality. Best wishes to hotel and hotel staff.

Room Tip: Go for a fort view room.

This was my fourth time in Shahi Palace. We have enjoyed our stay here very much. The staff is friendly and goes out of their way to help assist their guests. The place is centrally located.

The restaurant is cozy, plays good music (Prem Joshua) and has a good view of the fort. We had all our meals here, the food was very good and cooked according to our desire (spicy or non-spicy).

The rooms were clean and Mr. Jora joined us for the desert excursion, he has a very nice sense of humor.

Hope to see you again..

Room Tip: Fort view rooms..

I've been travelling around India for 5 months and this is the best hotel I've been to. As soon as we arrived we felt completely relaxed and looked after, nothing was too much trouble. Dev and his brother were the perfect hosts! We got upgraded and had a beautiful room, we had free lifts in the jeep, dev even took us on the back of his motorbike to get amazing samosas! We had free cooking lessons, and just generally had an incredible experience. More hotels should take a leaf out of their book. I would love to come and stay again, and was genuinely sad to leave! I'd recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank yyou Shahi palace!

Really wonderful hospitality from the moment we got our free pick up from the train station, from the humour of our driver Hemant to the all round service of all the hotel's laid back yet attentive staff and management. All our requests for information were met with a genuine desire to help, the camel trek was well organised and recommended, as was the informative walking tour of Jaisalmer. Excellent roof top restaurant food and views, wish we had stayed longer than the one night.
