Great Indian experience. The ambience and décor of the entire haveli was so soothing and enjoyable. Food was the BEST in Jodhpur. Phil, managing partner, is a wealth of knowledge on what to do and where to buy what. It's in the old city and off the beaten path so be sure you get his number and he can meet you accordingly. Please understand that this is not a hotel. It's more like a B and B with true Indian flare. And the garden is such a delightful treat! View of the fort is spectacular as well. No Air conditioning but fans and a desert chiller are available. Like others, I was quite surprised to read such a negative review. It's India! Cows, motorbikes and rickshaws are a given. Thanks Phil for a great trip!

Stayed for 2 nights in August 2013. Location is fantastic, set in the heart of the old town, in a restored traditional building with the only garden in the old town. At Bristows you get more than a room we got a suite, a double and a single (we used this as a dressing room), an amazing shower wet room, We also had access to a balcony overlooking the garden. Its hard to explain how peaceful Bristows is, walking up from the main chowk, where Phil met us we were bowled over by the tranquility which awaited us once we stepped across the threshold. This really is a remarkable place to stay. the view of the Fort from the garden and roof terrace is stunning and we could have spent all day just looking up from our balcony. Its location just 20 minutes up hill stroll to the fort was ideal. This is not a hotel, this is a unique place to stay and share with the host and family. Thank you for a memorable experience, would love to return again.

We stayed here a couple of months ago, while travelling around India, what a great place! I can't believe the negative comment this place has received. This family probably wouldn't have enjoyed any part of India! Narrow streets and wandering cows is part of the whole experience, and even so is not a reflection on 'Bristow's Haveli'. We ordered food while staying, and it was freshly prepared and well worth it!! Service perfect and rooms beautiful. Would we go again? Definately!!!

I visited Bristow's at the end of May - this was my first trip to India with my fiancee and Jodhpur was a contrast to where we had stayed previously in Delhi. The hotel is off the beaten track and we didn't have to travel very far in a tuk tuk from the train station. The main 'reception' area you first walk into has a really nice homely feel and we were greated by Phil the manager and given a basic overview. Our room was really nice, had everything we needed and looked over the garden which was really green and peaceful - a lovely break at the end of our days from the hectic streets of India!! The roof terrace is also a really cool place to share a beer at the end of a long day.

We ate in the hotel only one night of our stay towards the end and to be honest i wish we had eaten in sooner. The food was traditional home cooked indian food which was delicious, served outside in the garden with little touches that made it really special such as a candle lit pathway to our dinner and traditional local 'sweets' served with coffee from the local market. It made my fiancee and I feel like we'd had a really special meal.

Jodhpur 'the blue city' is a truley memorable place, I am so glad we visited on our trip to India, we made the most of the tourist sites with a day at the Mehrangarh Fort, the Royal Palace and a Camel Safari (organised for us by Phil the hotel manager). I would recommend a visit and if you would like more of a traditional homely feel then this hotel is for you.

Our family stayed here for two nights. Briefly, it was difficult.

Since there is no hotel sign and the streets/alleys extremely narrow and unnamed, our driver and we had a hard time locating the place. Stopping people along the way to ask didn't bring much help. When we did find it, our reception was odd. Phil, the owner, emphasized that this was not a "hotel," that if we wanted dinner (served around 9 pm) we needed to inform them several hours earlier so they could buy food at the market. Since we were starving, he led us to a restaurant through squalid, reeking streets and alleys where we struggled to avoid being hit by motorbikes and cars, walking at top speed, and chastised us for not knowing the way or following him quickly enough. We were just trying not to get killed.

This condescension continued throughout our stay. Peevish, he was.

Our area ( a tiny bedroom for our child, a connecting room, and our double bedroom, also tiny) had no door, just a hanging bamboo curtain. Not much privacy. Our double bed was more like 3/4, a little wider than a single, hard and saggy. The only light in the room was a tiny gooseneck desk lamp. It was unbelievably unpleasant. Thank god for ambien.

Breakfast was bread and juice, or tea.

When we left we asked for help with our luggage, since our driver could not drive to us and there was no place to park in this old area of the city. It was quite a trek through unmarked alleys, thick with turned up dirt, garbage piles, cows and cow manure. But Phil declined to help us, ask any of his employees to help us, or get someone from the neighborhood to help us.

Thanks for a memorable visit to Jodhpur, Phil. We hope you enjoy the city more than we did.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry you had trouble in finding us but the majority of our guests enjoy the fact that they are staying in a private house and not another Hotel. It is a heritage restoration project therefore the size of the rooms are as they were when the house was built 250 years ago.
We take great pride in our food and Pooja takes many hours preparing it from fresh local ingredients. We do not produce 'fast food' therefore dinner needs to be booked in advance.
We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us but we can do nothing about the narrow streets, cows and rubbish, it is all part of the world heritage experience that is Jodhpur.

We (4 women friends)stayed here for 3 nights and would have moved in if this would be possible. In the middle of the old town we found this lovely oasis. We chose to stay here because of reviews on Tripadvisor, and we were not disappointed! Phil, the owner and staff couldn't have been more welcoming. We also decided to have our evening meals at the Haveli, and what can I say...YAMMMM, freshly cooked food. All vegetarian. The breakfast was the best start to a day sight seeing or just chilling in the Haveli, my favorite place on top of the roof, looking up at the fort. Def. hope to come back to Jodhpur and stay here again. All rooms are lovely and very clean.

We stayed here for a week and had a great time. I was travelling with a friend and we had a room each in our own part of the Haveli which was great. The courtyard garden was a real bonus after the hustle and bustle just outside the door. The manager Phil, is a fountain of information both about things to see and do, the best places to shop and also about culture and traditions. Although it is a B and B if you order in advance Puja will cook supper. Her food is fabulous - ask to try the stuff potatoes.
Would definitely stay here again if I went back to Jodphur

Room Tip: The turquoise room upstairs has a balcony with a fabulous view of the fort
