It's a palace turned hotel belonging to the erstwhile Maharaja of Jodhpur. I was told that it used to be the summer palace of the King and the Queen. Every aspect of this palatial hotel retains the royal feel of the bygone era.The time we checked in, we got an exhilarating welcome by the gorgeous peacocks roaming the lawns as if they owned them. The estate is huge, and the residential units are divided into two blocks, one across a sprawling garden and the other overlooking a beautiful lake, from which it derives its name. The architecture of the palace, the lake and the surrounding campus made of huge blocks of solid rock which still stand sturdy, are sure to mesmerize you with how impeccable and advanced Indian architecture has been, meticulously nurtured by the Royals.
The food was good and the staff, who were dressed as in the days of the King, were exceptionally courteous.
A wonderful experience at Bal Samand that will remain forever to cherish.
