Reviewed 31 October 2011

Just 25 kms from Udaipur airport is palace converted into unique hotel. Palacial room of 600 sq.ft. Rajasthani hospitality and service. excellent spa. Eklavya movie with Amitabh, sharmila, Sanjay, Saif, vidya Balan, Jackie was shoot here for nearly a month. Reception arranged for a staff to take us around the resort and showed us the rooms where these actors had stayed. Suite of amitabh costing Rs.1.25 was something to see to believe.Often Hema Mlini comes and stays in dulex opposite Lotus court, at times joined with dharmendra. Exclusive private dinner is arranged at Sheesh Mahal for Rs. 8,000 for a couplre but since it was our birthday we wre treated royaly and complimentary.
Resort is in Delwara village where Delwara Jain temple of 900 years is located is must see. Same artisans built Delwara Abu hence the name and also Ranakpur temple. Heavenly relaxation.
Food is excellent but expensive. Bath tub water was covered with rose petals but tub had no side handle to get in get out easily. Toilet had only toilet papers and no water splasher

This converted fort is stunning both inside and out. Set in the Aravali hills on a promontory the views of the countryside are outstanding. The rooms are modern and stylish yet seem to blend with the architecture. It is with worth exploring the whole hotel since there are numerous nooks and crannies with internal courtyards leading on to discrete balconies and terraces that you can enjoy in complete isolation. The pool and grounds are lovely, the food mostly good and the staff are very attentive. It is a good 45 minutes from Udaipur (which adds to its charm) but unfortunately does not have a shuttle so you have to arrange expensive "tours" to go into town.
If they fixed that it would be the perfect place to stay in Udaipur

Room Tip: The higher the better

- perfect restaurated Fort with very good and well decorated suites
- very good location
- nice pool and beautiful and "relaxing" places at the whole Fort
- Gym is ok
- excellent service, very well trained staff
- ask for one suite at the top of the Fort and enjoy the perfect view
- the breakfast was great
- you need a car/driver because the Fort is 30 min away from Udaipur

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the top.

Devi Garh is a part of the Devi Resorts brand established among luxury hotels by Boutique Hotels India Private Limited (BHIPL) and it gives us immense pleasure to inform you that we have launched Devi Ratn & Rasa Resort in Jaipur recently.

Devi Ratn located on the Jaipur-Agra road represents the spirit of modern Rajasthan and combines lyrical spaces with bold architecture. It takes its name from the "Nav Ratn"; nine pure gemstones that focus cosmic energy. The gem-craft of Jaipur is reflected in the intricate quality of detail in public and private spaces. Planned as a spa destination, inspired by the architectural tradition of Rajasthan, Devi Ratn promises to deliver an experience as unique as Devi Garh.

Rasa Resorts – a sub brand of Devi Resorts offers the same unique service and quality one may associate with the group but at a much affordable price. Rasa has futuristic luxury tents, canvas cubes that are rendered in patterns, interspaced with sculpted landscape against a background of rocky hills. Devi Garh is actually Udaipur's best kept secret. A true blue Heritage resort in a proper Fort-Palace.
A b'ful location with the Aravali Hills in the background. An even more beautiful structure which is a photographer's delight.
Many cozy nooks with astounding views throughout the hotel which one can stumble upon and enjoy with complete freedom
Chic modern touches subtly blended with the heritage structure so lovingly restored. (the white room which another traveller complained about, I actually found very classy ... one entire white wall was covered in many small paintings of nearby Nathdwara's, Shrinathji idol in subtle colours ... b'ful)
Being used to high service levels of the Taj's many properties across the country, Devi Garh's people, their warmth and response far exceeded expectations.
The food is decent, not really outstanding as the rest.
Bear in mind that one has to climb many steps to reach the various levels of the hotel, but I was suprised to realise that it did not really tire me out as much climbing my own short flight of stairs at home !
This is not a place to stay for weeks (as is evident from another travellers detailed review) .. 2 to 3 nights is ideal.
Overall a truly wonderful experience, which we will cherish all our lives.

Room Tip: Don't take an official tour of the hotel ... discover it yourself .. you will be delighted at ea...

It was just great starting from the surprise welcome. We did read about a surprise welcome on another review at Tripadvisor - and I wont spill the beans on it.
It was a very nice touch…actually it started even before that. We had some problem with our train scheduling in Delhi & we requested Devigarh staff to delay the stay to one day later. They graciously agreed to do so without any extra charge.
We arrived at Udaipur early morning from Delhi & were promptly taken in a luxurious Toyota Innova to Devigarh (about 35 Kilometres, I think). We stayed in a Garden view suite (in Suite No. 4). The suites are all big and airy. All the rooms have motifs of different trees like banana, maple etc. with marble engravings on the walls.
This hotel is part of the “Preferred Resorts”. If you are interested in trivia, Liz Hurley got married here & the Hindi movie “Eklavya” was shot here completely. This was one of the 4-5 forts made to protect Udaipur from all sides. The hotel staff is more than eager to give you a palace tour and show you the different suites. They showed us the Presidential suite (Devi suite) where Amitabh Bachchan had stayed during the making of Eklavya. We had a palace tour as well as a village tour just outside the palace where you can see ancient Jain & Hindu temples.
They have a nice collection of DVD’s if you want to stay inside your room. I’d been wanting to see Cinema Paradiso for very long and I saw it there. There is also a souvenior shop and a library where you can read books about the Rajasthan & India. There is a billiards room & a fully equipped gym as well.
There are interesting facets to see around like Sheesh Mahal & the different Jharokhas. If feasible, they also upgrade you to one of the suites in the main palace. They have "Serene" spa – one of world’s leading spa chains – it was one of the best spa experiences I’ve ever had.
On the way back to Udaipur, you should definitely go to Eklingji Mandir.

Room Tip: Take the palace tour on 1st. day. Ask for complimentary upgrade to a better suite available. If feas...
