What a fabulous palace!! We came here to attend an Indian wedding and for the entire 4 days I felt like a Maharajah :-) Located some 45 minutes outside of Udaipur, Devi Garh is situated on a hill with a small Indian town at its footsteps. And surrounding it, for as far as the eye can see, green rolling hills.

The setting is truly magical.

Our suite had several balconies overlooking the pool and the hills in front, and we spent most of our time there, watching the landscape change colours as the day passed by.

Perfect place for an Indian wedding ... or a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: the suite overlooking the pool has gorgeous terraces and views

Nothing, (not even this review!) will prepare you for the first glimpse of Devi Garh as you come along the drive. It will (or it should) take your breath away. Truly a fairytale castle on a hill, complete with battlements, crenellations, layer upon layer of overhanging balconies, dominating the whole area. Once through the fortifications there are more delights: fountains and gardens, courtyard after flowery courtyard, more water features, artifacts, little niches, some with views over the surrounding countryside, and a lovely pool to relax beside....
We arrived on the first day of Diwali and appeared to be almost alone there, which was a little spooky. We were upgraded to a huge suite, all white marble, and terrazzo, almost clinical in its minimalism. But all mod cons, a huge marble bath (which went unused) and separate basin area and loo, as well as a huge shower. And more wonderful views over the local village, where life went on much as it has done unchanged for centuries (the odd satellite dish aside).
By the last day of Diwali the place had transformed and was full of spoilt, overfed children making a hell f a racket in the pool, so maybe weekends are to be avoided!

The food, served on a lovely balcony or in a very austere white dining room, was excelllent, and the service, by and large, worthy of the place. There is a separate open bar area on another level, the atmosphere slightly marred by musak of somewhat questionable taste.

A guided trip round the local village is a good idea, and there are some spectacular temples at Nagda (5kms away) including some great Hindu carvings at Saas Bahu, and a Jain temple currently being restored.

The idea of popping into Udaipur for an evening meal is not really on. It is a good 45 minute journey into the centre. So this may not be the best base for Udaipur, but well worth a visit in its own right.

Room Tip: you could take the Presidential suite with its own 25m pool....

This resort has been much talked about in the Indian press. So when I landed up there, I was expecting it to be otherworldly. I can't be blamed for that - Rajasthan is supremely exotic even for an Indian like me. So when you have a heritage fort that's been converted into a hotel in a magical place like Rajasthan, there is nothing wrong with keeping your expectations sky high. Which is why Devi Garh was bit of a disappointment - by itself it is a great place, but the hype around it takes expectations a bit high.

It is a fairly well maintained property and decently restored fort - it is not an easy task and it is extremely commendable job. This is a good way to keep our heritage monuments alive. Now being a fort, you need to be able to walk up and down plenty of staircases. So no need for Devi Garh to have a gym! There are good lookout points from most places in the fort and the views are beautiful.

Of the rooms around, I had one among many which faced a patch of lawn. You need to keep the chik curtains drawn however to maintain privacy. And it had a comfortable sitout area at the entrance. The room was not spectacular in the way Rajasthani heritage hotel rooms can be - in fact it was pretty modern rather than elaborate and traditional. Marble was used in many sections to function as furniture. What however impressed the city dweller in me was the size of the bathroom. Sorry calling it a bathroom is unfair - it was a room with a bath. It is essentially a large room with closets for storage, a sunken marble bathtub, two wash basins, a shower and a toilet cubicle. You could live in just the "bathroom". It was well appointed but the plumbing could have been better.

The food was excellent and so was the service - which usually can be taken for granted in tourist spots in Rajasthan. All in all it is a good fort hotel, and is spectacular in its own way. Only it's not a feast for the senses in the way other luxury heritage hotels in Rajasthan can be.

Room Tip: There are rooms with better lookout points. It could be worth the extra money

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sparing your valuable time and sharing your experience with other travellers on your recent stay at Devi Garh. We have noted your points for improvement and enhancing our facilities further. We also take this opportunity to inform you that Devi Garh is a very uniquely restored property unlike any other in Rajasthan with its contemporary minimalist design and style. While the exteriors have been restored to its originality, the interiors are completely modernized.

The philosophy of the company has always been about living with history; keeping an awareness of our past while looking towards the future. The vision is about finding harmony in contrast and modernity going hand-in-hand with our heritage.

Thanking you once again and looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back at Devi Resorts in the near future.

Kind Regards,

My wedding at Devi Garh was just an 'other wordly' experiance! I still cannot believe it actually happened. It was days filled with masses of exotic and heavily scented flowers/ star like fairy lights and candles/ a magical luxuary fort full of art and history and delicious spiritual scents. All of this was witnessed by the beautiful lime green parrots that live at Devi Gargh and lit by the dramatic sunlight and sky at that region. I will always be grateful to the team at Devi Garh as every single staff member is full of talent and genuinely wants guests to have an unforgettable experience. We had 110 people fly out from europe to stay in this hotel- alot of which were India novices. The hotel managed to deliver more than every single detail of what was required in our busy schedule of a hindu wedding and also delivered much more than we expected! What I think sets this hotel apart is the true attention and perfection of details and the chic creativity of the staff. The house keeping person who was doing our room - Kishore made the most amazing floral and candle lit decorations in our presidential suite and was a spiritual person who did everything with heart and pride. Dr Vijay at the spa deleted my pre- wedding nerve aches and pains in 1.5 hours and the management- Yogeshware, Manish, Anthony- are simply amazing, diligent and graceful people. Devi Garh is my favourite Day dream and It actually happened!

Just 25 kms from Udaipur airport is palace converted into unique hotel. Palacial room of 600 sq.ft. Rajasthani hospitality and service. excellent spa. Eklavya movie with Amitabh, sharmila, Sanjay, Saif, vidya Balan, Jackie was shoot here for nearly a month. Reception arranged for a staff to take us around the resort and showed us the rooms where these actors had stayed. Suite of amitabh costing Rs.1.25 was something to see to believe.Often Hema Mlini comes and stays in dulex opposite Lotus court, at times joined with dharmendra. Exclusive private dinner is arranged at Sheesh Mahal for Rs. 8,000 for a couplre but since it was our birthday we wre treated royaly and complimentary.
Resort is in Delwara village where Delwara Jain temple of 900 years is located is must see. Same artisans built Delwara Abu hence the name and also Ranakpur temple. Heavenly relaxation.
Food is excellent but expensive. Bath tub water was covered with rose petals but tub had no side handle to get in get out easily. Toilet had only toilet papers and no water splasher

This converted fort is stunning both inside and out. Set in the Aravali hills on a promontory the views of the countryside are outstanding. The rooms are modern and stylish yet seem to blend with the architecture. It is with worth exploring the whole hotel since there are numerous nooks and crannies with internal courtyards leading on to discrete balconies and terraces that you can enjoy in complete isolation. The pool and grounds are lovely, the food mostly good and the staff are very attentive. It is a good 45 minutes from Udaipur (which adds to its charm) but unfortunately does not have a shuttle so you have to arrange expensive "tours" to go into town.
If they fixed that it would be the perfect place to stay in Udaipur

Room Tip: The higher the better

Devi Garh is a part of the Devi Resorts brand established among luxury hotels by Boutique Hotels India Private Limited (BHIPL) and it gives us immense pleasure to inform you that we have launched Devi Ratn & Rasa Resort in Jaipur recently.

Devi Ratn located on the Jaipur-Agra road represents the spirit of modern Rajasthan and combines lyrical spaces with bold architecture. It takes its name from the "Nav Ratn"; nine pure gemstones that focus cosmic energy. The gem-craft of Jaipur is reflected in the intricate quality of detail in public and private spaces. Planned as a spa destination, inspired by the architectural tradition of Rajasthan, Devi Ratn promises to deliver an experience as unique as Devi Garh.

Rasa Resorts – a sub brand of Devi Resorts offers the same unique service and quality one may associate with the group but at a much affordable price. Rasa has futuristic luxury tents, canvas cubes that are rendered in patterns, interspaced with sculpted landscape against a background of rocky hills. For the traveller who appreciates an experience that is distinctive and yet of local origin, Rasa - Jaipur, more than meets the expectations set by hotels from Devi Resorts.

Thanking you once again and looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back at Devi Resorts in the near future.

Kind Regards,
