We visited Ranthambhore in last week of Dec 2013 and stayed in Tiger Machan..The owner (Shailender Singh) and the staff were very helpful and made our trip worth the money..the food was good..and the evenings were wonderful..bonfire in the lawns with some great rajasthan folk music organized by the resort..Shailender is very knowledgeable and knows the park really well..the guava field besides the resort was also a great attraction..the resort is close to the park boundaries and you can spot a lot of peacocks and other amazing birds close to the resort..hot water was a challenge however the staff gets it arranged incase you ask for one..overall a great experience and highly recommended..

We stayed for one at the resort in December. We were unlucky to have got caught in the cold. We visited the Ganesh temple, until then the weather was in our favour. By the time we got to the resort the temperatures just dropped and it became extremely cold.

As one of the reveiwers mentioned, it must be a lovely place during the warm sunny days, however in the cold season there should be some provision for some kind of heating in the tents.
My suggestion would be to have hotwater bottles under the duvets. This way atleast you are warm and have a restful night. If your body is cold you do not sleep well.

Where we come from in Kenya, we do have numerous places near the hills. This is where they provide hotwater bottles in the bed especially where the accommodation is in tented camps

We enjoyed the food at the resort, both dinner and breakfast.

About a 30 min auto ride from the Sawai Madhopur station, Tiger Machan is perfectly located away from the buzz of the town but not too far to be a pain. The location is just the beginning of all the good things that this place offered.

1) Ambience - tented camp with comfortable facilities - neither luxurious to rob the rustic ambience nor too basic that it was uncomfortable. Heater (we went in mid Jan and the heating was more than sufficient) and AC provided (for summers), clean showers and toilets. A reasonable sized outdoor garden where you can relax over tea.
2) Food - simply brilliiant north indian food. The food is so tasty and non hotel like - not too oily / spicy. Fresh ingredients used in the food was clearly evident in the crunchiness of vegetables and fruits
3) Staff - friendly and willing to serve. Not the formal types (so if you are looking for a place with uptight staff who have been taught to serve, this is not the place). This is more a place where you can call out the name of the staff and he comes in with a smile. The food might take 10 minutes longer but it is served with a smile. The manager Vijender is friendly and helpful. He arranged all our safaris, our requests for bonfire and was alert enough to ensure our ailing friend was well taken care of
4) Location - as I said perfect. This is close to a guava orchard where we could take a walk in between the safari's.
5) Finally, the star attraction - Brownie - the friendliest, most well behaved dog (Great Dane) I have ever met. If you want to be with him, he enjoys being with you but if you are the types who does not like dogs, then he is trained enough to stay away from you.

My son and I made our first visit to a National Park in India when we visited the Ranthambore National Park January 7th and stayed at the Tiger Machan resort on the night of the 6th and 7th. Although it was very cold we chose to stay in the very nicely set up tents with comfortable double beds, a small heater that provided some warmth, with an attached very spacious shower and toilet. You get hot water at specified times and that proved quite adequate. We have stayed in similar tented safari camps in East Africa and this compared favorably. Breakfast offers a number of options, with Indian choices such as puri and upma but also omelettes made to order with toast and jam. A number of families were at the resort during our visit but the place felt spacious enough so that nobody was crowded. The general atmosphere of the resort is unpretentious but comfortable and caring with some effort made to cater to individual requests. We showed up at tea time ravenous and the cook made some delicious pakoras with hot tea -really hit the spot. The best thing about Tiger Machan is that it is set apart from the tourist row closer to Sawai Madhopur and gives you a sense of tranquility that I expect you would not get in some of the larger establishments closer to town. Its proximity to the park gates also is an advantage since you get picked up last and dropped off first.

Service at the resort is also very good but somewhat variable. Dilip Singh in Jaipur was helpful with information that helped me book this resort. Shailender the manager, was extremely helpful with directions as we made it through thick fog from Jaipur by car. Virender kept dinner for us in the tent when we finally got in past midnight, hungry and cold. We did face a problem in getting on the morning safari because we did not quite realize that online booking needs to be supplemented by the resort arranging to "release your boarding pass" from the park authorities. Perhaps because of our late arrival nobody on the staff had pointed out this requirement or offered to take care of it. But some advice from the staff and quite a bit of energetic problem solving on our part and a helpful official at the park office got that sorted out and we had quite an adventure on our first safari. Ranthambore is a beautiful park that is worth visiting even if you do not get to sight a tiger. Shailender is very knowledgeable about the park and also suggested other parks in India to visit. Another property owned by the same company in Jaisalmer, the Dunes, also seems worthy of a visit.

Overall we had an excellent if short visit to Ranthambore and will very likely make another visit in the summertime when tiger viewing might be more successful and will definitely consider staying at the Tiger Machan again. Both my son and I enjoyed meeting Browny, the astonishingly large seven month old Great Dane puppy and look forward to meeting him when he is fully grown. Overall I would say this is an excellent value for Ranthambore - the tents give you a sense of what it must have felt to be on safari without putting you through some discomforts we would rather avoid. Small families and couples would be happy with this choice.

A great place to stay in Ranthambore especially as it’s one of the closest resorts to the park’s main gate. In summer it would be absolutely lovely with all the grounds, however in winter it was freezing & although they had 2 fires going in the garden in the evening, nowhere else in the resort was heated & this included the restaurant, where people were eating their meals like they were dining on the slopes of Everest. I read an earlier review which said that heaters were provided in winter……not sure how they managed to get one as we must have asked about 5 times for a heater, only to be told that it was a fire hazard to the tents, so they were not given out. They did provide plenty of blankets though & even let us take them on the safari too. Breakfast buffet was limited but good.

A very friendly, if not over eager staff. Happy to help you arrange things in Sawai Madhopur (I did not have them book safaris for me, but I did have them get me a jeep to take me to the fort for a very reasonable price).

The tents are simple but nice and well maintained. Same goes for the grounds. The food was decent and affordable.

At the end of the day, the most important part was just how close it is to the park which made everything so convenient, cheaper, and meant I was always the last person picked up for the safaris before going into the park (nice not to have to drive around and pick everybody else up).

The tented accommodation was a nice change from the usual. The owners/estate managers take good care of their guests and make each one feel special. The meals aren't lavish but definitely wholesome and tasty.
On the hygiene front, however, there's room for improvement. I guess it's time for the owners to do up the furnishings and repair the broken bathroom tiles.
