We recently stayed at Khem Vilas based entirely on their website and recommendations on trip advisor. I must admit i was not impressed. The hype did not meet expectations.

1. Ambience;
Beautiful site, great countryside ambience and the silence is wonderful. They have done a great job creating a mini ecosystem around the hotel, which is heavily marketed and rightly so.

2. Rooms;
Given the prices, and marketed as a luxury 5-star, I was sorely disappointed. I would classify them as clean, but linens, furniture and bathrooms, could with a upgrade to match the expectations. Be prepared for basic B&B stuff. The cottages and nice and offer better privacy that the rooms.

3. Service;
The service is a trifle amateurish, with focus of getting you in and out and in case you are leaving early in the morning you will be reminded several times to pay your bill the previous night which i thought was entirely unecessary and in bad taste.

4. Food: Billed as healthy vegetarian and promoting the "local, grown on site" USP, I would say its edible, but not much more. Lunches offered are a small pizza and carrot salad, which for hearty eaters and folks expecting more variety may be a little too healthy or a little too light atleast for my taste. Dinners are marginally better but not much more. If food is a key criteria for selection of a hotel, then think real hard. Waiters are earnest but amateurish and find it difficult to understand basic english.

5. Buildings : There are nice walking paths around the hotel and take some time to explore this.

Summary: Given, the choices in Ranthambore are limited, Khem Vilas is probably one of the reasonable alternatives. However I think there are a little ahead of themselves in marketing the place and cost/versus expectations for me was a severe mismatch. Despite that, its a very pleasant basic B&B that delivers a clean place to stay in the wilderness of Ranthambore and enables you to head out to the park twice a day to look for the elusive tiger.

We stayed in a tent surrounded by beautiful gardens, very comfortable, double bed and lovely bathroom. Food and service excellent, and particularly enjoyed sitting under the stars around the blazing campfire at night chatting with other guests. Khem Vilas itself is an oasis of wildlife and birds attracted by the planting and manmade lakes. If you go to Ranthambore definitely stay here! And we saw a tiger!

We were glad that we had stayed in the cottage which was overlooking the beautiful Ranthambhore countryside. We enjoyed our honeymoon stay there. Coming from a big and busy city, I had to take a while to get used to the silence and try to enjoy doing nothing. It was the perfect place to wind down, read a book and connected with the nature.

I enjoyed having the outdoor bath after sunset when it was just getting cool. Shame the hot water wasn't that hot though. We were truly pampered by the great service and the amazing and delicious wholesome meals we had during our stay. All ingredients were home grown and you won't be disappointed for not eating any meat in here.

Before dinner we joined other guests around the bonfire for drinks. It got very cold after sunset so everyone was rugged up. We had a chat to a mother and daughter from Manchester and shared tiger stories.

Dinner was a buffet of Indian food. Various vegetable curries accompanied by yummy pickles, naans and poppadoms. Go easy on the beans though!

I'd like to thank the owner Usha and her staff to make our trip memorable.

I was lucky enough to be surprised by my partner, was a beautiful stay we had. Exquisite service, beautiful landscape and just the peace we needed after Delhi, Varanasi and Agra back to back. We were lucky to see a tiger on our only Safari and spent the rest of our two days enjoying the camp and surrounding areas, a real romantic getaway. Our favourite stay during the whole trip around India, it would be a dream to return.

Stayed in a cottage. Beautiful views over the countryside to the hills inside Ranthambore National Park. Lovely terrace outside and also an outside bath, candle-lit after dark. Handy for safari trips inside the Park as it's the nearest hotel to the Park and therefore the latest for pick-up, meaning a slightly longer lie-in, and the first for the drop-off, meaning slightly less time to breakfast! Great food. The bar is quite expensive and the overall cost is high.
