The menu is eclectic and the service spot on. The falafel was wonderful and so are the salads. Very friendly and lovely atmosphere.

In Brief...

Fresh pasta.
Good variety of Mediterranean food.
Wine available
Friendly staff

Ambience spoilt by radio
Cold items not fresh
Overcooked pasta
Smoking in the kitchen!!

We have visited this place many times over the years and had good experiences but this was the worst experience even since a month ago. My son saw a rat run in the kitchen... well it is India and you can't really control that. However looking at the state of the kitchen and the clothes of the staff it was evident that standards have slipped. Also they were seen smoking in the kitchen.

When we arrived the staff seemed to be tired and listless. I had to fetch the menu myself and ask for another. We sat in the courtyard which is dark but nicely lit by a curtain of fairly lights from a tree.

As it was a cold night I asked for the plates to warmed before they served the pasta and this was done. When I tried to pay by card the answer came that the machine wasn't working and I didn't get a receipt for the cash paid... suspicious!

Several time we had to go and get the waiter despite us being the only customers for the first 40 minutes we were there.

The first gastronomic disappointment was the Mezze. The baba ganoush was freezing cold as was humus and the Arabic salad of parsley and tomatoes etc. These were obviously made in the morning for the lunchtime and still being used for evening. Thats ok for humus and baba ganoush but they shouldn't be served so chilled. The salad should have been served fresh and it was very 'tired' and texture was obviously too soft.

Taste & Quality
The baba ganoush tested good once it warmed up a bit but the humus was lacking tahini and some bite. More lime and garlic would have improved it. The bread served with it was cheap white sliced bread... not really ideal when some kind of nan or roti would have been more in keeping with the dish.

The main dishes we had were pasta. The Arabiata had too much liquid sauce and was too sweet and spicy. The pesto was very poor lacking... pesto and again too much liquid sauce. The ravioli was the best taste but the parcels were like huge pillow cases!! The tagliatelle was over-cooked. The wine was simple but good white Fratelli - reasonably priced.

An annoying distorted noise was coming from the speakers. Some local radio channel blaring out some hideous sounds. Not good! I turned it down but it went back up again after we settled down to eat.

This place is an absolute gem of a find. And only 3 minutes off of the well worn tourist path.

Ran by the German culinary master behind the ever popular Cafe Edelweiss - this restaurant is sensational.

When you're in India you eat curry for breakfast noon and nigh. That's why you're in India - to immerse yourself in the culinary culture.

But... Every now and then you need something different. And NOT Indian-tries-hard-but-fails western food.

This restaurant - genuinely owned and ran by a real German gentleman - is absolutely brilliant.

Gunther Maria (the owner) only serves food that he thinks is delicious - hence why the menu is incredible.

The soup is like nothing you've ever tasted. The bruschetta could not be fresher. The Moroccan chicken dish takes paneer to a new level. The chocolate cake tastes of real western delicious mouthwatering chocolate. And there is wine that does not taste of dirt. It tastes of heaven.

Go here on your first day in Udaipur and you'll be back every day. No where else compares remotely.

The owner Gunther Maria is one of the most wonderful and interesting people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. If you notice an immaculately dressed older gent sipping espresso - say hello - he'll probably end up being the best person you meet on your Indian adventure.

Went there for lunch just yesterday. Was greeted by the owner, who gave us the highlights on the menu. Had chicken wajid, and it was heaven on a plate. Breast of chicken with crunchy skin stuffed with cashews and currants. My friend had ravioli stuffed with eggplant, which was good also. The food was so good, I didn't notice anything else. Will definitely be back!

The quality and presentation of the meal served at this Western/ Indian Fusion restaurant was simply the most innovative and memorable my partner and I experienced during a 12 day trip to India. We stayed at 5 star plus hotels, sampled the Country's top rated restaurants, and consider ourselves as somewhat spoiled "foodies". The Owner/ Chef created a 6 course experience that focused on fresh, local ingredients. Try the fish broth, excellent fresh fish entrees, and chocolate cake comparable to the best of Paris cafes. Do not be discouraged by this eatery's modest curb appeal or interior. The quality of food is exceptional and very moderately priced.
