Booked 2 nights here in advance but then got no replies to subsequent emails, despite chasing. On arrival we were shown to a room which didn't the match the spec we had booked and only after we queried it did they say they had not confirmed the booking so could only offer us this one (despite our names clearly in their book on arrival). The room was reasonable, but not clean (toenail clippings on the bed). Only on the evening after check in we were then told by the manager that we would have to move rooms to their older guest house down the road fir our second night. We didn't. We went elsewhere (to Karohi Haveli, which was very good). We were clearly used by Jheel as a backup booking. We got the impression this place is resting heavily on its fortunate lonely planet listing. There is much better, for less money nearby elsewhere.

Hotel Jheel was my home in Udaipur for two weeks and I felt most at home there. The rooms overlooking Lake Pichola are romantic and tastefully decorated. The bonus of staying here is that Hotel Jheel has a coffee shop on the ground floor serving what seemed to be the best coffee to be found in India ( proper coffee machine) and great pastries. On the top Terrace, affording the most beautiful views of the Lake and the opposite bank, the food served there ( Veg) is excellent. The most tranquil, most beautiful spot I found in the two weeks I stayed there. A great vantage point and centrally located in Lovely Udaipur

We really enjoyed our stay with a bedroom and balcony right over the lake. The owner runs an efficient busy hotel, coffee shop and rooftop restaurant, all very good quality. Would deffinately recommend and stay there on our next visit.

Beware - they tried to stick us in the old guest house - the non-lake facing side despite printed confirmation from the booking company. It took some time to straighten out, but we were eventually led to a beautiful room with a window seat overlooking the lake.

The location was wonderful - we could walk everywhere. And the food at the restaurant upstairs was good. The WiFi was down while we were there and the bathroom was dingy (I wore my sandals while showering). The cafe downstairs was alright. We ordered a tea and a coffee, for which they tried to charge us over 200 Rupees.

Good location for the price, just be firm and avoid the old guest house!

Twice I've stayed at Jheel's and really love this spot. The main building has beautiful rooms with waterfront views... I enjoyed having a window seat right on the lake. The room rates are very reasonable considering the great views and location. The second, older, guesthouse is nice, also. Actually, I prefer the older building...there is something very romantic about the older rooms.

The owners, Ramu and Dadu, are very helpful and friendly...as is Govind, one of the regular staff.

Try breakfast or dinner on the roof...great sunrise and sunset views of the lake and surrounding buildings.

Jheel's is close to all the things you want to see, but slightly off the tourist roads... so there is a little more peace and privacy.

I consider Jheel's my home when in Udaipur....it's a great spot to settle for a few days or a few weeks.

I stayed in the old jheel guesthouse in the budget room for 400rs a night. The owner was quick to reply to my emails about reservation. I arrived early and got to my room straight away. The matress and bedding was clean and comfortable. The bathroom needs redecorating. The floor tiles were dirty and grungy and the drain had hairs in it so it didn't work properly. There was also no hot water. Staff could have offered a bucket of hot water from their guesthouse over the road, but they didn't bother. The coffee shop they have is lovely.

Loved staying at this guest house. epic location right by the water. Loved the delicious cakes and pastry they had at the cafe on the bottom. The rooms were fitting for the price i paid, but most of all the staff were really nice. Loved the Food from the restaurant. The chef Rupesh did an amazing job in creating the dishes. Try the tuddka, which is a speciality bread, the egg pakoras were nice and also the vegetable soup.. Will definitely stay here in the years to come..

Room Tip: choose the expensive room with the balcony
