Building. This is one of those hotels designed by architects to impress, not to make guests feel comfortable. Depending on the section you stay in, you may have long walks inside to your room. The exterior is a feast of polished marble and sandstone on many levels with unlit hazards. There is very little green for such a huge area.

Service. The staff are plentiful, but poorly trained. Their presence is intrusive but ineffective. We found it impossible to walk in the grounds without being followed and being asked repeatedly if there was anything you needed. We only ate breakfast in the hotel. The selection was far inferior to that offered in other hotels we stayed in for a similar price in India and indeed that offered in far less expensive hotels; service largely ineffectual. A half hour wait for a poached egg could be a world record. Meanwhile there were no shortage of people trying to sell the spa - even intruding on your breakfast in their attempt.

Our room was large with everything you could need, but much you could live more comfortably without. The clutter of klitch was oppressive.

This is not real luxury but a pastiche put on by people who appear not to understand, or care, what travellers need.

Room Tip: Get a room in the same block as reception and the restaurant if you want to avoid an interminable walk.

The decor and the little details to the room was lovely. The staff was helpful and friendly. Overall, it was a beautiful experience. In my opinion, the Leela Palace in Udaipur is a gold standard for India's hotel industry.

Room Tip: A room facing the Taj and garden.

Stayed one night at this wonderfully hotel. Starts with a great boat trip over the lake to the hotel where you get a warm welcome , upon arrival. You get accompanied to your room where the check in takes place and a butler gets assigned to take care of you. Very luxurious room with amenities. Hotel looks like a state of the art palace with great views on the lake. Do not forget to enjoy the wonderfull swimming pool with outstanding service. On the minor side, are the breakfast buffet which is good but has fewer options than what you expect in similar hotels. You also have only 2 restaurants , which was enough for our stay but does not offer lot's of options if you plan a longer stay. In sum, great experience with outstanding service.

Perfect. Amazing location looking over the lake and the palaces on the lake, amazing landscaped grounds including a lovely pool area and amazing service. Our heritage view room was beautiful. We actually had two rooms (both of which were brilliant, with excellent shower and bathrooms). A yowling kid moved in next to our first room: not the hotel's fault but when we requested a move they did it instantaneously. When you get a room, make sure it has no adjoining door as if it does the sound travels much more than otherwise.
Breakfast was also very good, as was room service. There is excellent free wifi and wired internet (although you may need to join a loyalty scheme by providing an email address for free internet).
It's not cheap but half the price of the Palace on the Lake; it's hard to imagine how anywhere could be twice as good.

Room Tip: Make sure it does not have an adjoining door to the next room as sound will travel (109 and 110 may be offending rooms).
