This is only a couple of years old but built in the traditional Rajasthan style. It is serious luxury. The access is accross the lake by boat - lovely. The pool is beautiful, the grounds meticulously maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. The food was very good but clearly an interpretation of good Indian food rather than truely authentic but no complaints. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. it isn't cheap but a nice indulgence for a couple of days mid trip.

Room Tip: They are all beautiful with great views

We visited for our first anniversary with a "romance at the leela" package booked through the Leela Contact centre over the phone. This was my first visit to any Leela property.

This property is situated on Lake Pichola, and seems very intimate while maintaining its grand palatial feel. The service levels were excellent - I have stayed at various 5 star properties across the world but none have been this efficient and friendly.

We were picked up from the airport in a luxury sedan, dropped at the shore of the lake, and continued onwards in a motor boat. This was a great experience, and once in the hotel, the check-in was done only after we were seated on the sofas in our room.

The staff is very happy to help, and appears genuinely happy to be working there. Dining options are limited, with "the dining room" as the main restaurant, serving breakfast in the morning, and a diverse menu with popular international options for lunch & dinner. The "sheesh mahal" restaurant has locally inspired Indian dining options, and is probably one of the nicest fine dining restaurants in Rajasthan. Spa is great as well, with spacious rooms and experienced staff. I strongly recommend the cocktails created using locally brewed heritage liquors - Ved is a great bar manager with good knowledge about these spirits and how to best mix them.

I would certainly like to visit this hotel again, driven primarily by the service quality of the staff, and the quality of the property itself (rooms, beds, dining, etc).

Room Tip: The hotel has two large building - the main building with the reception and restaurants has lake vie...

My husband recently spent our 10th anniversary at this splendid destination!! We couldn't have been happier with our time there!! It truly is a magical place. The rooms are splendid. The service is truly exceptional. Every detail is given consideration from knowing guests by name and following up on the simplest request no matter what the staff members' role. The food was also exceptional. Added to all that, is a spectacular view of Lake Pichola, the City Palace, and the Taj Lake Palace. At night it is truly beautiful.

We arranged a guided tour of the City Palace through the hotel, and could not have been happier with our excursion. Very informative and probably one of the best maintained examples of Hindu architecture. We also arranged a driver to take us to the Monsoon Palace to watch the sunset. Spectacular views of the lakes and city from there. Worth the drive. We also arranged for a cooking class taught by two of the chefs at the Leela to learn some Indian and local Rajasthani dishes. It was such a great experience! Had a wonderful meal after the class, and we were able to talk a little more with the chefs, as they joined us for the meal. Over all we felt that we had such a wonderful experience. Would definitely return, maybe for our 20th anniversary!

For those who want to live the luxurious high life head to the Leela Palace on beautiful Lake Pichola in magical Udaipur. Make sure you arrivate at the hotel by boat in order to get the full deluxe treatment. This begins at the hotel's boat dock on the shore where gentlemen in impressive Rajasthani costumes escort you to your boat for the journey across the lake to the hotel. Ladies are escorted by a man holding a huge velvet and gold umbrella over their heads to shade them from the sun. At the hotel landing dock a similiar procedure takes place. You are escorted to the lobby as rose petals are released over your heads and live musicians serenade you. This is how the stage is set for your stay. The rooms are large and luxurious. The bed floats in the middle of the room ensuring a perfect view of the lake. My room had a balcony to more fully enjoy the view. Rooms have all modern amenities and include flat panel TVs, DVD player, phones on both sides of the bed. Your room is also stocked with fruits, cooks, candies and an more than adequate supply of bottled water. Staff is there to tend to your needs and can be over-solicitious.

Room Tip: The hotel has two buildings. The one that does not face the pool has the better lake view particular...

Loved this hotel from the moment we arrived at the jetty! The property is downright gorgeous with beautiful gardens and water features and inside there are lots of flowers and greenery.

Our spacious room had a sweet sitting area and patio as well as separate bath and shower, and of course, every amenity you could think of. We especially appreciated the high-end bedding.

We didn't appreciate the high price of the wi-fi and were particularly annoyed that they CHARGED PER DEVICE! (There is a business center with two computers available at no charge.)

It's an easy, short walk to the center of the old town along a narrow lane. We found Udaipur to be one of the cleanest cities, if you can say that, in Rajasthan. Perhaps our favorite.
