In keeping with the theme of the luxurious Leela palaces, this property is worth touring for its own sake. One can luxuriate in the ambience of each of its common public places as well as feel like royalty in one of its lake facing rooms. Take a boat ride on the lake after dusk to breathe in another side of Udaipur. Ask your taxi driver to take you shopping and sightseeing rather than use the hotel's services apart from the boat ride. However, do have at least one meal in the hotel as their wine list is formidable. Don't miss the Leela breakfast. Do not miss the evening live dance performances within the central seating area and keep your video am buzzing for some love folk songs and dances. Don't venture out too much at night though, as the mosquitoes can get vicious. Start your trip with a guided tour of the property and relax, take in all that the gracious hosts have to offer

Room Tip: All lake facing rooms are good. Get a high room so that you can open the windows without mosquitoes...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the exceptional review.

My team feels highly motivated by your review and surely feels encouraged to further exceed guest expectations.

We are glad that you enjoyed the cultural performances.

During change in weather conditions, we do encounter some of the garden mosquitoes and insects, but there is nothing to worry as we ensure to have the preventive fogging and other measures carried out every day.

We eagerly look forward to your visit again to Udaipur, the city of lakes or any of our Leela hotels in the near future.

Best regards,

Abhishek Sahai

I stayed at this lovely property for 4 nights in mid-May 2014. I debated between 4 and 5 stars, but since they fixed all the issues (below) and it is so lovely, I gave them 5 stars.

The rooms, grounds and views are stunning. Unlike the Lake Palace, all rooms have lake views, and it's better value for money.

The standard rooms (a bit like junior suites) are lovely. If your budget allows, go for a luxury suite (great with contemporary design and more space). I found the duplex suites to be nice, but the spiral staircases are treacherous for us older folks and children. The Royal suites are also lovely. Unless your tastes are those of a Sultan or Liberace wannabe, avoid the Marharajah suite - I had a headache after only 3 minutes in the place.

The boat ride in is scenic and fun and the service is great. The food is quite good - stick to the Indian fare. For western fare, they undercook bacon, overcook eggs and their fried shrimp batter is heavier than mud.

I loved the pool and its friendly attendants. Just wonderful. Spa is lovely too. Evening entertainment with music and dancers is magical. There are tables in two corners on the water that are seldomly used and just magical - ask for them and insist on a candle.

My only real gripes were a mess-up in reservations (fixed after 2 attempts), charging for wi-fi (why do 5*-star hotels anywhere do this??? - I gave the GM an earful about it and was waived afterall) and the fact that they were not lighting the torches and candles in the lovely gardens at night (fixed during my stay).

It's a great property with huge potential. They need to fix a few things, but I am happy to recommend it.

Room Tip: If in a standard, try to get one of the 2 with plunge pools. Otherwise, one with a terrace!

The leela palace is simply divine. From the opulent jetty , to the lush boat ride and arriving to a rose petal shower, The leela palace bewitches you and transports you to a world of sheer luxury and decadence.
The LEELA palace is prefect and is steeped in rajasthan. This summer Capt. Nair family has kept its essence whilst providing one with every possible luxury.
The rooms are beautifully decorated, the views on the city are captivating and every part of the hotel is a peak into the vision of it's royal residence.

The staff were lovely, polite, helpful and seem to know what we needed before we did. After breakfast, the maître d came up and asked whether they could pack us a little car picnic package to ensure we were well fed and watered during our journey and delivered the beautifully packed boxes to our room in time for our departure.

Dinning Room served us simply the most delicious indian food I've ever had the pleasure of eating.
The bar served the best coffee I had during my entire trip to India and the drinks were also lush.
Great pool, gorgeous food and a level of service that would be the envy of every hotels.

One thing I would like to mention that VIVEKANAND in the restro is very caring . My wife was not well and i asked to switch my package dinner to next day and he gently said yes. he was day off next day but he arranged everything . On the day of check in he surprised us with a nicely decorated table in dinning room and a nice three ways chocolate fondant. His conversation is unbelievable. he too knowledgeable. He deserve great success in his life. I want to wish him best of luck for future . He actually made us feel that what is the true meaning of hospitality and luxury.. thanks alot VIVEKANAND.

This is the one hotel that I would like to visits over and over and hope to return to soon.

Room Tip: Visit leela atleast one. and dont forget to meet VIVEKANAND ..the wonder boy..

We were expecting a fabulous hotel from the brochures and we were not disappointed.
The approach was very elegant - we were picked up in a jetty and taken across the lake to the hotel where we were warmly welcomed with rose petals and traditional foot washing! The rooms were beautiful - with stunning views and all amenities. A separate walk-in closet, toilet, walk in shower and bathroom - The quality was excellent and the level of cleanliness was amazing - and the service ............. Attentive, polite, ............ I could keep going.
The amenities - a fabulous pool, a gym a spa........... with complimentary yoga classes daily! The grounds were stunning and well kept. The restaurant had delicious food with a chef always available to adapt the meals to suit. it was a great place to be - albeit not cheap - it was a lovely place that afforded peace of mind. Very comfortable though the bed was a little hard - made up by the wide range of pillows on the menu to choose from.
A word of advice - it was a lot easier to get round Udaipur from the back (though not the best) entrance in a tuk tuk. I whole heartedly recommend this hotel - it is worth the money.
Do take advantage of the cooking lessons!

Room Tip: pick a room with a view take care to pick your preferred pillow from the menu
