Owner description: Pichola Lake is one of the most beautiful and picturesque lakes of Rajasthan, India. Located in the heart of the city, Pichola Lake is the oldest and one of the largest lakes of Udaipur. Pichola Lake is enveloped by lofty Palaces, temples, bathing ghats and elevated hills on all its sides. In the southern part of this lake, there is a hill that is known as Machhala Magra and one can see glimpse of Eklinggarh Fort from here. The City Palace of Udaipur broadens along the eastern banks of this lake. Built by Jagat Singh, Mohan Mandir is situated in the north-east corner of Lake Pichola. Lake Pichola comprises several islands that accompany the calm waters of the lake. The world-renowned Lake Palace is perfectly located on the Jag Island of this tranquil lake. Even the Jag Mandir, another destination of tourists, is located on an island of this lake. Above all, a trip to Pichola Lake would be incomplete with a boat ride. The pristine blue waters of the lake leave a soothing impact on the spectator. At the time sun-set, a boat ride in this lake is sufficient to enthrall anyone.

This lake is awesome & have huge roadway moving from army area to greenery towards city. Taj Lake Palace is situated between Lake Pichola which gives amazing view to city. Nearby is a rope way which can also be enjoyed.

“Good for a Boat Ride in Fantasy Land.”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Lake Pichola is probably one of the most beautiful urban lakes in all of India, if not the world. In the background it is surrounded by the lovely hills of the Aravalli range, and on the banks are the magnificent palaces and havelis of the Rajput maharajas and noblemen. The most prominent amongst these palaces is the City Palace, built by Maharana Udai Singh in the 16th century.

There are two beautiful palaces in the middle of the lake too, the Jagmandir and the Jagniwas. The Jagmandir palace has been converted to a restaurant, whereas the Jagniwas palace has been converted to the famous ‘Lake Palace Hotel’ run by the Taj group of hotels.

We took a boat ride from the jetty near Dudh Talai, which is run by a private operator, and charges Rs.100 per head for a 20 minute motor boat ride. They take you around the lake and you can see the various palaces and havelis from close quarters. There is another boat ride originating at the City Palace jetty which charges Rs.325 per head, which lets you disembark on the Jagmandir Island for 20 minutes, and then brings you back.

Many of the havelis around the lake are now hotels, and their restaurants are generally on their rooftops and terraces, where you can enjoy a romantic dinner watching the glittering lights on the lake.

“Huge”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

This was the lake we travelled on everyday to reach our Hotel LEELA PALACE. The same has to be done if you are staying at UDAIVILAS or the LAKE PALACE HOTEL or going to JAG MANDIR.

The Lake is Huge and if I may say so very clean as compared to most of the lakes I have seen, and I have seen quite a few of them.

Very natural and has a depth of about 25-30 feet as told.

“Romantic ride”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

This is a ride you should not miss at Udaipur. The sights on the lake are beautiful, particularly the Lake Palace. The break at Jagmandir is nice. A lovely place for photographs and a romantic time.

“Fairly scenic lake cruise”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

A fairly pricey boat trip to the centre of the lake is pleasant and offers good views, though there is very little to do on the Lake Palace area itself. The area is relatively small, there is a small room detailing the history of the Palace, and you could have an expensive drink, but that's about it. As stated earlier, the cruise is fairly scenic though.
