What an amazing experience this hotel turned out to be. It really is rural about an hour away from Udaipur, I wish we could have stayed longer. We made the very most of our stay thanks to Nithin the amiable hotel manager who is a great ambassador for the hotel, it's environment and the village of Khempur. The village is largely self sufficient with little mechanisation and a walk around led by Nithin was a real introduction to rural indian life. We soon gathered an entourage of happy faced children, keen to practise their English, and were invited in to some homes to meet families and in particular the Marwarni horses. Nithin and his staff couldn't have been more helpful, we had a delicious supper on the roof, by candlelight before settling down to watch the film 'the Most Exotic Marigold Hotel'. A visit through the village the next morning to the school was a joy, do go - and buy some paper and pens for the children at the little village shop on the way.
I think the hotel works because of the efforts of Nithin, his ideas and beliefs introducing guests to the village and encouraging the villagers to embrace the hotel guests, makes the visit truly unique. He has a gentle style and an easy way, that makes you feel you've made a friend; I really hope the venture is successful, it deserves to be.

After returning from India, there were few hotels I wanted to write about, but the Ravla khempur made our trip in India and I want everyone else to be able to have the same experience we did. If you want to get out of the city and have some peace and quiet this is the place to go. Ravla khempur is in a loverly village about an hour out side Udaipur, very accessible by taxi. The village itself is so warm and welcoming, everybody wants to say hello and just simply get to know you. Ravella keeper (marigold hotel) is one of the most fantastic places I have ever stayed. The best part about the hotel is it is un spoilt. It still has very its rustic charm I really hope that never changes. Whilst in India for 6 weeks we stayed in some heritage hotels that have been done up, and whilst they were beautiful they did not have the natural charm of this one. Nitin the owner has done such an amazing job with the place, it really would not be the same hotel with out him and his staff. There is nothing they won't do or at least try there hardest to do to make your stay as unforgettable as ours. If it is just relaxing in the swinging chair, sitting on the balcony watching the most incredible sun set, wondering around the village, having fun with the horses or enjoying the most beautifully cooked dinner, Nitin and his team really do make your stay one you will never forget. If we ever have a trip back to India it will be the first place we visit.

We were recommended this hotel by a friend who told us it was the hotel used in the film 'exotic marigold'. This was enough for us to check it out. Its about an hours drive from Udaipur and was so different to anywhere we visited in India as it was so quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the cities we had visited. When we arrived we were greeted by the manager who instantly made us feel welcome. After some lunch we had a guided tour of the village surrounding the hotel with Nitin (the manager). We wondered the streets and meet the locals who were so friendly and welcoming and the children were just adorable and loved having their photos taken and seeing it on the screen!! In the evening we had a romantic meal (with excellent food) on the roof of the old historic hotel - another great experience followed by watching the 'exotic marigold hotel' film in the lounge area which was cool. The following day we asked Nitin to take us out to the village again to see the local schools. This was so much fun, where we got to see and interact with the children. The whole experience we gained from this hotel and village was amazing and certainly one I would recommend to anybody! The manager Nitin was an excellent host and shared some great stories with us about the history of the village and hotel. He is doing a truely amazing job here and we really got a feel for how these people lived their lives and it was touching to see how happy they were and it was nice not to see the usual begging we were used to in nearly every place we visited in India!

I agree 100% with all the positive comments. Just spent 5 glorious days there. Its quiet, beautiful, authentic. The day can slip by in a haze of heat and peace and you can watch the light change and/or Nitin will show you a way of life that you wouldn't experience on the normal hotel trail or without inside knowledge.

Nitin and his staff are a joy to be around, and although I went just expecting a 'normal' hotel experience, I got so much more. Nitin opens up the local indian culture to the guests which is worth more than any money. I got to experience life in a way I would never had done in normal hotel and I now feel richer and happier for it. Great service, wonderful food, relaxed, peaceful, beautiful scenery, lots of laughter, good people.

If you want to experience India in its glorious untouched state in a place of simple luxury and beauty, this is for you.

Just returned from three weeks in Rajasthan - two women traveling alone. We had the "best experience" of our whole trip here. I agree with the reviewers...all true! During our travels, we spread the word - almost reluctantly as we want this jewel of a place to stay as it is...simple, quiet and "real"! This is truly worth seeing - even if for only one night. As other have said, the manager, Nitin, is a jewel and visiting the small village was a gift way to see the "real": India. One of the local boys brought a beautiful white horse to the hotel's gravel driveway to "dance for us" prior to sunset - a lovely l girl from the village came to "paint" our feet the next morning. They open up their hearts and homes to visitors...not asking for a dime...so untouched...no begging here! We wanted to give them something - Nitin advised having them work for their money - so, during one of our walks thru the small village, we asked for the foot painting. This is an easy drive going/coming from Udaipur (short drive off the main highway) well worth it!! Thanks Nitin...God Bless you.

Room Tip: No worries here - dinner by lamplight was awesome on roof top/breakfast included in price served on patio - yummy!! Nitin will take care of you!! He even recommended we visit his chef friend at the Udaivilas (Oberoi Hotel)Undaipur/5 star property...amazing! The restaurant laid out the royal carpet for us and Nitin's chef friend selected all our dishes -well worth the splurge! Thanks again Nitin.
