The hostel offers the best value for money I have seen in India so far. The rooms are spacious, clean (almost luxurious bathrooms)and since the location is a bit off the main tourist streets also quiet. Only minus is the difficulty to find the place on your own - but if you ask for a pick up from the airport or trainstation there won't be any problems. The owners are friendly and helpful. Breakfast on the atmospheric rooftop restaurant was also tasty:)
So its a perfect place to stay in Udaipur!

Mewargarh Palace is a fantastic guest family run guest house, the family are very kind and helpfull and the rooms are spotlessly clean and nicely decorated, being one of the highest buildings in town it also offers fantastic panoramic views of the city. Keep up the good work

I've been backpacking in India for more than two months now, staying at dozens of budget-friendly hotels and guesthouses based on TripAdvisor and Lonely Planet recommendations. Mewargarh Palace is easily the best of them all. Here's why:

- CLEAN & TASTEFULLY DECORATED ROOMS. Not just "India clean." Actually clean. Spotless, in fact. Clean bed linens, clean trash cans in every room, dear God even the ASHTRAY was clean. And the walls, which appeared to be freshly painted, were decorated with local handcrafts.
- HOT SHOWERS. Not lukewarm. Not a bucket shower. Actual, glorious hot showers, 24 hours a day. Oh and they use solar power to heat the water. <3
- FAST IN-ROOM WIFI. Fast enough for Skype, downloading podcasts, watching YouTube videos, etc. I haven't clocked download speeds but I'm pretty sure this is the fastest wifi I've had in all of India.
- FRIENDLY. The family that runs this guesthouse is just lovely. They truly want you to enjoy your stay, and they bend over backwards to make you feel at home.
- GREAT FOOD, NICE VIEW. The rooftop restaurant might not boast the greatest views in all of Udaipur, but it is a nice place to relax and plan your day while enjoying a fine meal at a reasonable price.
- LOCATION. Just a ~10 minute stroll through charming residential alleyways and you will reach the Jagdish Temple, picturesque Lake Pichola, the Bagore Ki Haveli Museum, and a footbridge that takes you to Hanuman Ghat.

And last but not least...
- VALUE. For this level of quality, they could easily charge double the price. But they don't, because they're awesome.

Mewargargh Palace is an absolute gem. Everything about our stay here was enjoyable and relaxing. The family that run the guest house are friendly, helpful and some of the nicest people we have met in India.

The rooms are large, clean and have hot water whenever you want it. The location is great, 5 minutes and you're in the centre of the Old City and at the gates to the City Palace. The place feels very safe and secure, we didn't need to worry about leaving our electronics in the room at all.

The incredible hospitality here meant we stayed longer than we had planned, we didn't want to leave! The food is good and affordable, ask if you can check out the view from the highest point of the roof, it's breathtaking.

I am really glad I booked this excellent hotel. We arrived early in the morning by train, got picked up and could immediately rest in our rooms. Everything is very clean, the bathroom is big and modern, western standard.
The hotel is situated in a quiet neighborhood, with no traffic noise.
The rooftop restaurant is good, we really enjoyed the breakfast in particular. You also have a perfect view over the old parts of Udaipur and can gaze at sunrise and sunset, or just watch the neighborhood's kids fight each other with their self made kites.
The owner is a very relaxed and helpful person, that organizes nearly everything for you.
I really miss Udaipur and this place.

We stayed in Mewargarh Palace for three nights (25-28 Feb) to relax in Udaipur, wrapping up our Indian trip. It was rather easy to find the guesthouse. The room we got was very very nice. It has hot showers and a ceiling fan. We didn't book a room with AC because it is winter. It gets cooler in the evening. But nothing at all like Canada. O yeah, there were small packages of shampoo, toothpaste, and lotion, provided in the room - which is a very thoughtful touch! The guest house has an amazing view of Udaipur on its roof top. Love standing on the guest house's water tower and watch the sunset. The food on its roof top restaurant is rather pricey in comparison to other cities in India. However, it seemed like the prices are the same throughout the city. Nonetheless, the food we ate there was delicious and big portions. Rizwan, his sister, and his family were hospitable hosts. We highly recommend Mewargarh Palace.

Regards,
Ramli.
