“Great Room with a View”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2014

We visited Udaipur mid-October 2013 and had pre-booked at Thamla Haveli. Initial skepticism was blown away by a warm welcome. The room was on top floor overlooking the the Lake. The roof-top restaurant is situated just outside this room. Its fun to have the food outside as the views are gorgeous all around...especially when the City Palace and the Ghats are lit up.
Disclaimer: The Haveli is not situated on the main body of Pichola Lake but on the north-eastern stretch overlooking the City Palace and Gangaur Ghat. Still, the views are breathtaking!

Though situated in a very old narrow lane (romance of Udaipur I guess), auto rickshaws are available nearby most of the time. Quite close to the Udaipur Palace is an added bonus!

About the room....spacious,furnished,well-ventilated....however, the large lake-facing glass windows (without shutters) are an issue when the sun is up......heats up the room quite a bit even when the AC is on.....but as we were travelling from morning-afternoon, it was not much of an issue for us either. The room (most probably 108) is highly recommended for tourists planning to 2-3 nights stay during FULL MOON!

Food....generally spicey...however, quite friendly staff....u can customise according to your needs. But, eating out is always an option in the locality.

Service should be better.....nevertheless, has a very cordial atmosphere among all the people in the Haveli....made the stay enjoyable and enchanting. Value for money indeed!

We stayed at Hotel Thamla Haveli for 2 nights. It is centrally located for shopping and restaurants. The first night we were in a small room upstairs near the terrace. This was fine, but with no view. The second night, the manager kindly upgraded us to the large deluxe room overlooking Lake Pichola. The room was clean, fresh linen with a good sized bathroom and good hot water, with a great view. The staff were very helpful with laundry service available. For the price we thought it was very good value. They serviced breakfast up on the terrace which was the usual Indian and Western fare. This was more than adequate. Breakfast was not included in the price. They have a good wi fi system with adequate power points. I would recommend this hotel and have enjoyed our stay here.

Had booked this hotel after looking at the pictures on their web site and reading traveler reviews on trip advisor but was way too disappointed on reaching the hotel. Please don't get misled by the pictures that are there on the website, they might be old but definitely not how the hotel looks at present. The lake view from the room is overrated! Flush in the bathroom was not functioning well, wash basin's cold water tap was not working on informing this to the hotel staff, to my shock I was told nothing can be done about the flush and asked to operate the tap from its main source under the wash basin! I had booked 3 nights at this place but decided to check out the very next day and informed the same to the person at the reception.

For dinner we went to their restaurant but were told that only selected items were available from the menu, if that is the case then whats the point of having such an elaborate menu. On finally placing our order from the limited options that we had it took more than an hour to get served.

The horror continued next day on checkout when the staff member at the reception told me to pay one additional room night charges as we were checking out early. Thankfully commonsense prevailed when I protested and spoke with the owner that we had decided to checkout and this was informed to the person at the reception a day prior in the morning itself and we had paid for the 1 room night in advance and will not pay any more money as the service and room standards did not meet what is claimed on their website.

We stayed in one of the lake-facing rooms and I could not stop taking pictures. Very impressed with how helpful and nice staff was - our bus did not leave till midnight and they let us leave our staff, wash up and even hang out on the rooftop terrace free of charge. I definitely recommend this place.

Room Tip: If you can, have a room overlooking the lake - well worth it!

We stayed in a lake facing room, which was good. Not sure about other rooms which are not lake facing. Food is pretty average. Better to take food outside as there are plenty of options nearby.
View of lake from our room and also from the rooftop restaurant is really good.

Staffs are good and specially the manager Sanjay Jain is quite helpful. People reaching the hotel by their own car may note that they don't have a parking place of their own, instead you will need to park your car 200 meters from the hotel in an open space in front of the hotel Ameet Haveli. My car stayed there for 3 nights and luckily nothing happened.

Room Tip: Makes sense only if you are staying in a lake facing room. Try for the top floor lake facing room.

I stayed with Thamla Haveli from 18th Dec to 20th Dec 2013 , I was a bit skeptical initially as makemytrip did not have the photo for budget rooms, but I went ahead an booked it for 3 nights.
The standard non-ac room was good enough for a couple. It is situated right on the bank of Pichole lake and the view was excellent from the roof top restaurant. Hotel staff is good and prompt in their service. They also helped as with local food joints for our special eating preferences (jain).

I would definitely recommend this hotel who would like to get value for money.

Cheers, Tejas

Very good location as it is situated right next to the lake and had a roof top restaurant. Very quiet and peaceful place. Make sure if you could get the roof top room as it has got the best view.

Food of the hotel is average, although whatever we asked for was not available. We were asked to let them know about the stuff like ice cream and any other dessert in advance as they have to buy it from the market.

Water always clogs in the bathroom and takes hours to be drained out.

For lunch and dinner I would suggest Amrai hotel( we had lunch and dinner there)which is only 5 minutes distance from Thamla Haveli. Absolutely stunning place right next to the lake. If confused ask anyone in the street and they will tell you where it is.

Room Tip: Only worthwhile if you get the lake facing room.
