The Lake Palace casts its spell on you from the moment you take the boat from the jetty point to get to the palace doors - now a spectacular lobby. The palace is magical to say the least - where else on earth would you find a hotel with so much history, opulence and luxury - all rolled into one? The service is beyond excellent - every small detail has been looked into: from the amenites in the bathroom to the layout, planning and provisions in the room. This is a place where the old meets the new and where dreams can come true - especially if you are looking for the complete royal Indian experience. The staff pampers you like you are a king in residence and the chefs churn out food fit for a royal platter. The views are magnificient - especially if you have a room facing the city palace. Visit the Lake Palce to cut yourself away from the reality of the world and float into a living dream!

There is not much more to say about the hotel.
I almost never say this but it's just perfect. The hotel can easily match every expectation of spoilt western travellers (and I'm not talking about travellers who usually sleep in hostels).

I was a bit sceptical when I booked it and was concerned that the hotel could be rather overrated due to the hype which is made about it.
Easy answer: it's definately NOT.

(Also other experiances with Taj Hotels, which were rather average, were not repeated here. This seems to be a place of which is taken special care.)

Conclusion: Awsome place, just enjoy it!

Can't say enough about this place. From the moment of arriving to a magical shower of rose petals falling on us from above to a marvellous rooftop dinner to an elegant room with every amenity to sunrise yoga to dancing girls in the lamplit bar area at night - it just got better all the time. And the service was fantastic. We felt like maharajahs.

I had high hopes for our stay at the Lake Palace to celebrate my partner's birthday in India. We were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived the quality of experience was exemplary. I honestly can't fault it, my only challenge is to try and match the experience in the future for my partner! Unique is an overused word, but I truly believe this hotel is unique in the world.

Arriving at the hotel pier on a perfect February afternoon, the Lake Palace looked spectacular. Our room had a beautiful view of the sunset, and in that moment we decided not to leave the hotel for the duration of our stay. Time well spent!

Our first meal was a private dining experience on the Mewar Terrace. Perfection. I highly recommend this dining experience, book in advance and look forward to one of the most romantic experiences you could dream about. A perfect place to celebrate or just indulge. The spa is divine, the swimming pool elegant and every aspect of the communal areas perfect.

I will definitely be back!

The only negative would be the in-hotel collection of small shops. I decided to get some tailoring done, believing the premium would be worth it if the quality of the hotel could be matched by the tailor! I was sadly mistaken. The quality was the most disappointing thing. I ordered bespoke shirts, which didnt fit properly and had been poorly tailored particularly around the shoulders. They tried to convince me they were ok, but they simply were not. Then they said I was an "unusual" shape! This surely is why you have bespoke clothes made and I am just tall and slender as opposed to "unusual"! they were adjusted, but never fit properly, but I still bought them. I wouldnt bother. The other pricing was c.4 times the price in other local stores. I would recommend that the hotel review their associated shops. This did not colour our experience of this fabulous hotel though.

The hotel is expensive, but I do not regret any penny I spent at this hotel. Just don't go shopping!

i had the pleasure of staying there during the recent trip. i am glad that i had the chance to stay there. definitely recommend the stay if in the price range of your budget.

i stayed there for only one night as there is no availability on the other day of my stay in udaipur. at first i did have the price shock of the room rate. but afterwards i felt that it is worth the price and would infact say that they can charge more. it is the only indian hotel in the top 25 of readers choice on this forum(ranked 15). it is a small hotel based on the number of rooms and so whenever there is a demand and limited supply the rates do reflect it. for crying out loud --- it is the center of attraction of the other hotels as they try to advertise the view of this. initially i thought of the fact that staying in this hotel and looking at the rest of the city versus the staying outside and looking at the palace. boy was i wrong and would have missed the opportunity if i were to stay outside. there is more to staying inside than what can be seen from outside --- the courtyard where they have the entertainment show, the bar, the roof top, the heritage tour and boat ride

the restaurants are ok. they are not the best i have tasted nor the finest.
the menu is limited especially the roof top where i had my dinner. the two good things about the roof top restaurant is the view and the prices are average(the 300$ rooms in USA are usually associated with restaurants that dinner per person is more than 100$ for wine, foie gras appetizer, main course. here it is $150 per couple. ofcourse any higher i would expect better quality. sea bass was great with a european sized portion but the rack of lamb was average).
the morning breakfast buffet is above average 4/5 rating overall. probably low rating for i have been to many restaurants in usa, india and some in europe. it looks like some one got caught between the decision to satisfy the local and western palates

the welcome and check in process is truly an experience --- the most traveller friendly i have seen. they give you the impression that are there for you and you need not worry about anything including your luggage, check in, needs and do not hesitate to ask policy.
they even serve dinner on a boat in the lake if requested. they have so much staff that you need not look long to find some one to help you
i should appreciate the attentive wait staff at the entertainment. in particular the man who i think was anticipating that i might need some thing came from the other side of the courtyard with just one glance at him and stood few feet away for me to actually initiate the request him for my choice of drinks (a glance of probably 1/2 to 1 second ---- and that is intelligent, quality and efficient service that i expect of an establishment worthy of my priase)

the only thing that i felt that they can improve on is reading lights in the reading lounge next to the lobby. i felt that i needed more light for me to read the magazines at 5am when i could not sleep anymore due jet lag

This place ticked all the boxes. The location in the middle of the Lake Pichola is superb, particularly if you have a view of the City Palace which is on the lake shore.

This was the place where the James Bond movie "Octopussy" was filmed, and one is frequently reminded of it. The DVD is available on the hotel's list and when requested was accompanied by a bag of warm popcorn and two candsof soft drink.

Service was what one would expect in such an establishment and the cuisine was extremely good.

Only negative is the Taj Group's insistence on charging for internet access. Just seems petty given the daily room rates.

Fabulous hotel and staff. The most perfect place we have ever stayed in. It was like being in paradise - every need catered for.
My husband wanted to send some flowers to suprize me, the staff went out of the way & made sure they had the flowers & a note waiting for me in my room. It really felt great ... thank you guys once again.
We were so relaxed we didn't want to leave. Would definitely return back.
