Our stay began with a boat ride over to the hotel and a very special greeting as we stepped on the hotel property. We were greeted with a cold drink whisked off to our accomodations. Our room was beautiful with a window seat overlooking the lake and city. The service is impeccable and no request will go unresolved. The restaurants offered a delicious variety of options. We especially enjoyed the entertainment of music and traditional dance while enjoying a cocktail in the lounge. Perfect stay in every way.

On our last trip to India, we stayed in wonderful hotels (several of which had been palaces) The Taj Lake Palace is surrounded by 400 years of history...as well as its claim to fame as a location in a James Bond movie. That said, I must compliment the people who run and staff the hotel. I have never before enjoyed the degree of kindness and consideration that they offered. It was universal and consistent. I have to rate this hotel as my all time favorite! Being showered with rose petals as we entered made a great first impression -- but the staff's professionalism and warm hospitality made a lasting one.

This is such an iconic place to stay. The whole experience is memorable, from arriving at the winter palace on shore, boarding the small boat that takes you to the hotel, being greeted at the landing, to entering this jewel of a building made of white marble. Our room faced the winter palace, so we could look back at the shore. But the real fun is wandering around the building, watching sunset from the roof, and just living like a prince or princess for a few days. Our room was elegantly appointed, carried the theme of being a raja with sofas and pillows by the window, and it was quite roomy. My husband and I each had a massage, but I remember that being a bit disappointing. If you are in Udaipur, this is the place to stay.

It was a 'WOW' experience to stay at The Lake Palace with the family . The hospitality of the hotel staff was unmatched & uncomparable ! Everyone seems to love the work they were doing & were more than happy to make stay more comfortable . We went there with the family & kids loved the location ! The only food we had there were breakfasts but we got all the dishes made to our choice since we are vegetarians including eggfree croissants .

Room Tip: Rooms on the Lake side are very beautiful.

Everyone seems to love the work they were doing & were more than happy to make stay more comfortable . We went there with the family & kids loved the location ! It is a rare experience to stay right in the lake in the monsoon season .
Rooms were small than the usual luxury hotels but nothing to complain since it is 200+ years old building which is superbly maintained . The only food we had there were breakfasts but we got all the dishes made to our choice since we are vegetarians including eggfree croissants .

Room Tip: We got the rooms facing city palace & lake view which were excellent . Room No 205 with twin bed...

You can read how good this hotel is from the ratings and reviews of other travelers. Here is my experience -

This is indeed a great hotel and we never felt like leaving the hotel to explore the City Palace or the city. We were on a special holiday and this hotel was indeed special. The service at Jharoka is fabulous. Steward was very attentive and addressed our every needs. He noticed that I had cough and cold and made a special herbal tea concoction which gave me relief from cold and cough. Anuj was very cordial and helped us in choosing the best dishes that the chef could offer. The steward at breakfast would try to feed us full in every breakfast. This is the kind of personal attention which is missing in most major hotel chains in the world.

The disappointments:

Onour first wedding anniversary and wanted to celebrate it in a special way. We booked for the special dinner by the Lilly Pond. Due to intermittent showers, we asked the F&B Manager whether we can have a table reserved at the Jharoka restaurant if the rains do not stop. He said the restaurant is on first-come basis and a table cannot be booked. We were planning for a anniversary celebration dinner and paying in excess of Rs.6000 per pax and were disappointed by the inflexibility of the F&B manager. We had to try to ask him to please book a alcove facing the City Palace. The F&B manager started to lecture us that it will be un-ethical on his part to book a table for us if someone else comes earlier than us. Despite us telling him that we had booked for a special dinner, he would not agree. Finally, we decided we will have the dinner in the Lilly Pond despite the weather conditions and had no intentions of trying to convince the F&B manager despite us paying a premium for the special dinner. It felt like he was doing us a favor. On the same day, a royal family from Qatar were staying in the hotel and they ate dinner at Jharoka. I was told that they had special arrangements at Jharoka. I wonder what happened to the "ethics" of the F&B manager. This is plain hypocrisy and unacceptable if we are paying a premium by staying at the Taj. We continued our dinner by the Lilly Pond. The stewards Anuj and Jigar were fantastic and accommodated our every request. They even placed an umbrella to protect us from the rain. The food by Chef Rahul was fabulous and exceeded our expectations. These guys are fantastic. The F&B Manager must train under these guys to get an understanding of what courtesy and service is all about. We did not expect any freebies like a cake or a bottle of wine for our anniversary (most hotels would have given us one to celebrate our special day though), all we wanted was a good day with good memories. Anuj, Jigar and Rahul made the day special with their outstanding service.

The iron in the room was broken. The temperature control was not working and the text on the control was erased. The teflon coating on the back of the iron had eroded at places. My wife's favorite dress got burnt partially because of this broken iron in the room. I hope Taj understands and respects that a dinner waiver will not compensate the loss of a favorite dress.

The fruits in the breakfast buffet must be covered. We found a strand of hair in the fruit and had to stop eating.

Spa - Once the spa treatment is done, the guests must be given time to relax and maybe shower in the spa. Instead as soon as our treatment got over we were told to get dressed and shower after an hour.
