We stay in the palace for one night, which is obviously not long enough. We were on a backpacking holiday and decided to stay here for a treat, and it was more definatly a treat. From the moment we stepped on the boat to take us across, to the rose petal arrival, everything was first class. The room was amazing, the bed has to be the most comfortable nights sleep i have had, and the pool area and spa were delightful. A recommended stay.

What can you say about being housed bang in the middle of Lake Pichola in a 275 year old palace which served as a pleasure palace for the royals!! Words cannot do justice to the beauty of this place.

The food is good but nothing exceptional compared to Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. The staff is friendly and courteous,

The highlight of the place is the location, location and location!! Best suited for couples.

We were so enthralled by the beauty of the place (we could see the lake all around from everywhere from our suite) that we cancelled our trip to the City Palace and decided to stay indoor and gaze at the lake.

One of those rare places which will give you a heart break while leaving as each stay however long the duration is always too short.

...the one and only hotel we never left. We checking in for a 3-day stay and subsequently cancelled every excursion we had planned for Udaipur within 20 minutes of arriving.

Since I was a kid, I dreamed of seeing this enchanted kingdom from another time and place. Aside from the Four Seasons Bora Bora, it's the only hotel and destination that has literally left me breathless.

Arrival: From the Udaipur airport, you navigate the busy and congested streets until you arrive to the lake front. Cobble stone streets and the tops of palaces are the only hint of the magnificence that's about to come. The car pulls up to a curbside dock flanked by marble elephants and staff in full Rajasthani regalia. You're greeted with cool towels, refreshments and a view of the Lake Palace in the distance.

Boat: Like out of a James Bond thriller, a sleek speedboat pulls up to the dock to bring up to the hotel. Ten minutes later, after circling the rear, we pull up to the front of the hotel with staff lining the dock and the roof of the palace. We exit the boat and get showered with rose petals from above.

Check-In: Easy, breezy with welcome drinks. We notified them prior to our arrival that it was our honeymoon and got the upgrade of a lifetime to a Grand Royal Sweet with 1200 sq. ft. of views and opulence.

Room: Amazing--and I'm not a fan of Old World opulence. We were greeted with a gorgeous bouquet of roses, a bottle of champagne, fruit and decadent white chocolate cake with "Congratulations!" written across the top. A book on the Kama Sutra was conveniently left by the nightstand. The room consisted of a large bedroom with living room, a detached sitting room on the water, a huge bath with soaking tub, a dining room and dressing room.

Grounds: Beautiful. Even though you're in the middle of the lake, the Palace has lush gardens, pools and courtyards. The roof deck serves meals and provide 360 degree views of the palaces the surround the lake.

Bonus Points: I celebrated my birthday while we were honeymooning here. My husband made reservations for a rooftop birthday dinner -- that supposedly didn't offer thali meals nor and couldn't be made private. Of course, when we arrive, we're literally awestruck by what the staff has done. They closed off a portion of the beautiful rooftop and dotted the path from the stairs to the table with several dozen candles. We're then informed that we order anything we want and that the chef went to the mainland earlier in the day to get all the ingredients needed for a full thali meal, just for us. Indian lounge music flutters in the distance as the hot day gave way to warm night breezes. The service was perfect. Part 2 of birthday surprise...so my husband and I love "Slumdog Millionaire." Earlier in the day, he asked the front desk if they had the movie in their library and was informed that they did not have it. After dinner, we go back to our room and as the night before, get a new and unique turn-down experience. Candles light the room and rose petals float in the bath. Next to the DVD player is a bouquet of flowers and a copy of the movie--fresh from the mainland.

This was the experience of a lifetime and worth last penny.

Room Tip: Let them know if you're celebrating a honeymoon/anniversary/birthday.

I noted that there were no books in the library. Srikant- the front office manager, got a couple of books- bought from the local bookstore.
We were supposed to have a complimentary "thali" meal - in the restaurant- but we requested for having it in our room- because of our daughter. The room service staff, shuffled in 2 at a time, in darkness and quiet, to serve the 4- course meal ( across 2 hours)- no problem at all, and no cost.
We were travelling with our 15 month old. Everyday- the kitchen would send a dish- just in case she would like to try it

And there are numerous examples, all through our stay, where the staff would appear out of nowhere, to assist and gracefully step back once done.

And it wasn't just about the service- being professional or efficient. It's how the staff went out of their way just to spend time - even talking with you, it wasn't about ordering your next drink, or coordinating your massage- just wanting to chat with you, more like someone wanting to make a family guest feel comfortable.

Even by Taj standards the Lake Palace service is a notch above. "Atithi devo bhav"- truly !

And everything else is great as well. the rose petal shower on your arrival, the flutist on the terrace, the location- with the view of the lake with the mountains beyond ( with other palaces), the spa, the bar, the restaurant ( I know everyone goes for the Neelkamal- but I liked the Jharokha- because of the lovely setting- with a view of the lake), and the history- lest we forget it's a 250 plus year old palace.

And that is something to remember- it's an old palace converted to a hotel and not a modern hotel designed like a palace. That it works as brilliantly despite those constraints - is a testament to the ingenuity and service culture of the people who work there

Will love to return, as often as can.

Room Tip: Take the Palace rooms - they offer great views. If not possible, then go for the lakeview rooms.

the best thing I liked about the hotel was the service. The staff was extremely nice (just like at all taj hotels). We were travelling with our 8 month baby and spent most of the time at the hotel itself. The staff was nice enuf to offer specific food for the baby when we were watching one of the evening dances.
The rooms were wonderfully desgined & the decor was really nice. Great lake view.

The add-ons which would have made me happier would be - the cot designed to suit the room decor. we had a pink mattress ina blue cot for our baby boy. it didn't fit at all in the room decor.

Had a two night stay there in the month of march. The staff is truly hospitable..something they take on from the culture of Rajasthan. The food there was great.. specially the Indian cuisine. The greatest advantage is their location. The lake palace glitters at night in the midst of the lake. The only negative are the rooms coz they are too small. Would love to visit again

We read about this fantastic hotel in the middle of the lake in Udaipur and thought it would be incredibly extravagant but could not miss the experience. And we are so glad we did experience the palace in the middle of Lake Pichhola. It was THE highlight of our three-week India trip! The Udaipur Lake Palace was much, much more than we had expected -- we were taken by boat to the hotel floating in the middle of the lake; and from our room we had a straight-on view of Udaipur City Palace. Once in our room, we felt like foregoing the rest of the tours --we felt like royalty-- with exquisite service throughout the hotel and restaurants. Everything was first-rate/five star plus! We also had such professional and superb quality service by all staff especially your manager Mr. Samtani. We cannot imagine going to Udaipur and staying anywhere else, and we cannot imagine India without the Taj Lake Palace.

Room Tip: All are great but the rooms facing the City Palace are wonderful! Watching the sun set on the palace...
