I spent one night here... A bit of a splurge, but definitely proved worth it. The grounds are immaculate and beautiful. The small touches (rose petals, the designed floating bouquets) are elegantly designed and executed. Definitely a once in a lifetime treat.

It's exactly what you expect from Taj Hotels - top notch service, facilities, spa and food. A unique property located in the middle of a lake. A 24 hour water taxi takes you there from the City Palace Jeti a few 100 yards away... Great to arrive at night for the view. You are showered with rose petals as you enter the property.

Room: All but think 7 of the 84 rooms have panoramic lake views - make sure you don't take a courtyard room - what's the point? Room was maybe 350 sq. ft., had a small sitting area, Mimi bar, cable TV (one station plays the Bond movie filmed there 24/7), ample closets and room safe. Nicely appointed room with very high ceiling - lattice worked - which makes the room seem larger. Very comfortable linens, pillow selection and comforter.

Bathroom: large tub with rain shower, good water pressure and hot water if you push the scald button to move it past the safety point. Nice shampoo/ conditioner and really thick towels. Blowdryer in sink drawer.

Restaurants: 4 restaurants - we tried three of them. The best is the roof top dining experience
at night - amazing views, food and service. We were there in December and had to dress warmly, although they have gas heaters, shawls and hot coal to warm you - a fix price 4 or 5 corse dinner. The Indian restaurant has a view of the Lilly pond - also a good view at night - solid menu.

Pool: Nice heated outdoor pool area with hot tub and cold plunge pool. Lots of lounges, waiter service and small gym adjacent.

Common Areas: great array of bars and sitting areas to relax, smoke cigars, socialize or drink. A few gift shops with good supply of jewelry, saris and handicrafts. Reasonable prices given captive location.

Spa: Small spa with good service and reasonable prices.

Service: Excellent

Room Tip: Water view room only!

The Taj Lake Palace was probably the hotel we were looking forward to most during our 7 night tour of northern India and it did not disappoint and we'd go as far as to say, bar the hotel we stayed at for our honeymoon, it was the best hotel we have stayed in. The welcome is magical (we won't ruin it for you by saying any more!), the staff are exceptional, incredibly attentive, on our first night we dined in Jharokha, as a couple without children we our not fond of our dinner being disturbed by a noisy baby, our waiter Rajindra, picked up on this almost immediately and moved us to one of the turrets at the corner of the restaurant, beautiful and romantic and much quieter. When we later declined desert, he insisted we tried the homemade blueberry ice cream on him (he was right it was delicious).

The little touches never failed to suprise, cucumber for your eyes whilst lying by the pool, or a refreshing water spritzer when you were getting warm, nuts bought to the room with the requested ice for the tipple we had to watch the sunset from our balcony and the leaving gift - which honestly bought a tear to the eye!

Finally, I unfortunately left a couple of handbags in the hotel, which I was mortified about as they were both gifts from my husband. We realised when we got to Delhi and my husband called them, I have to stay even with the service we had received I was very sceptical I would ever see them again (as is normally the case when you leave anything in a hotel). I was of course proven wrong and the bags were couriered back to me and received within a week.

Thank you Taj Palace for the most amazing stay, this was my first stay in a Taj Hotel and I would actively choose to stay in one again whenever there was the option.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Palace room with a balcony, not cheap but wonderful to have your own balcony to watch...

We spent 4 days here with my parents, celebrating both their golden wedding and our honeymoon (yes, unusual !). We were upgraded to a suite, which was just fabulous - our favourites in the suite being the little reading room jutting out into the lake, and ditto for the spa room. Amazing service, right from the start with the sprinkle of rose petals on arrival, reception staff knowing your names, chefs picking up on the fact that I liked spinach (!) and many more personal touches. The hotel has a lovely ambiance and there are plenty of guests who were there for special occasions or were splashing out on something special - therefore you don't need to worry about not having a suitcase full of Gucci......

The all day restaurant serves great food, and as a result we didn't venture elsewhere. The Indian restaurant is excellent - we had a great meal in there one night. Alcohol is extremely expensive, much like any other 5 star hotel in India. And one other thing to be aware of, the hotel sprays the gardens every day (?) to kill the mosquitos. You might want to avoid the gardens during this time, as it is quite acrid.

Udaipur itself is gorgeous and we had plenty of time to visit the sites, as well as head out to Chittogarh for the day. We shopped around for miniature art, but found the best stuff in the hotel shop. And yes, don't be afraid to bargain ! We happened to be there for Diwali and had coincidentally booked a private terrace in the hotel for a celebration dinner with my parents. That was really special - fireworks going off on the lake shore, with a marvellous meal (which we had chosen with the assistance of the chef) being served to us by the wonderful Anthony George. Thanks to chef Rahul for rising to my husband's "chilli challenge" and organising such a fabulous meal for us. That evening will not be forgotten. Also thanks to reception staff, particularly Jyoti and Srikant.

This hotel is like a dream| What a nice place to stay. We were welcomed very nice to take the boat to the hotel. As we were checked in, we were upgraded to a suite. What a lovely room and what a wonderful view over the lake and the city.
The dance performance was great. The food was good it every restaurant.
The service was even better than imagined.

Spent 1 week here last Holi, and my word what a property....From the time one enters the boat to go to the lake palace, one is made to feel like royalty. At the reception there is a traditional welcome waiting, the staff are very humble and I think they treat all their guests as if they were the king of Udaipur....The rooms is over looking the lake, and its so pretty...the room itself is very modern, and its everything your expect....The morning breakfast served in the room is spot on, in our case we d order the continental breakfast....served like royalty, the service is at par with the best....Restaurants are in a royal candle light setting under the stars....Swimming pool is abit small but its nice....
The staff are always willing to share the tourist info with the guests, so we did nt need any guides....The Maharajas room has a nice swing outside it.....Thankyou to the hotel and will be back soon....

The Lake Palace Hotel is a gem - wonderful architecture and workmanship. Our luxury room at > 800 €/night (!) was definitively (too) small; bathroom the same. Everything is a bit tighter compared to other Heritage hotel due to the limited space here. To be fair, they offered us a bigger and far nicer Palace room on the last evening. Service level is from excellent too good, depending on the persons. Thus our %* rating is more on the minus side.
The best is the outlook over the lake and on the City Palace - stunning! A MUST SEE!
Indian restaurant is very good with very (sometimes too) attentive service.

Room Tip: Palace rooms are by far bigger and more adequate to this wonderful place!
