Yes, it is expensive, but it is worth every penny. Just book this hotel for your stay in Udaipur, it is heaven on earth! Absolutely everything exceeded my expectations and I just wish that I can go there again soon.

Having wanted to stay here since a little girl - we turned a blind eye to the prices (ouch!) and treated ourselves mid India trip to night here. Woweee.

This place just oozes elegance, romance and history.

The original room we were given was a little disappointing - a spa suite with two floors (first floor - spa beds / second floor - bedroom) - it wasn't a good use of space with nowhere to put our bags etc. However the lovely management worked hard to ensure we got a room which met our expectations - and boy, did they deliver! We were shown into a gorgeous suite with windows opening over the lake, a four poster bed, loungers everywhere... Amazing!!

From the moment we checked in at the quai to the moment we reluctantly checked out we were in bliss. The views, the food, the pool, the staff, the architecture, the spa, the room... Everything had the boxes ticked by us!

Yes - it's expensive, but what an experience... Wouldn't have stayed anywhere else!

This was the final hotel of our whirlwind week touring Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan. I had deliberately planned it this way: I figured we would start our wedding anniversary trip by visiting that icon of romance, the Taj Mahal, and we would end it by staying at one of the world's most romantic hotels. The Lake Palace did not disappoint. It is a tiny property but every little bit of it is absolutely gorgeous.
They very kindly upgraded us to a suite (Sandhya, #133) and it was stunning. When we entered, we saw a narrow hallway complete with a statue in a niche, opening into an anteroom with a beautiful writing desk and a table for 2. Then we saw the four-poster bed with a marble jali screen as the headboard, more intricately-carved wood furniture, two chaise lounges, a huge black and white marble bathroom, a little bay window-sitting area which looked out the back of the hotel over the lake toward the Aravalli mountains...I'm sure my jaw dropped open and stayed that way for the entire 2 nights we were there.
As it was, my husband felt "under the weather" so we did not do any sightseeing at all in Udaipur but just cocooned in our lovely suite the whole time. Room service was great (earnest, if not as polished as Oberoi) and the food (we ordered from the Indian restaurant) was delicious.
All in all, if you can afford it, this is one of those once-in-a -lifetime experiences which I highly recommend. I don't think there are many hotels in the world that can compare with a charming,1700's Indian palace built for a pleasure-loving prince, set in the middle of a lake, and so wonderfully maintained.

Stayed early May. Occupancy was below 30% because of low season. Lake almost dried up and it was very hot!!! Good for stying room or pool. Facility was satisfactory maintained and stay itself was wonderful. Restaurant as well as beautiful garden fantastic! Worth to visit and have relaxed time. Good for Hysband & wife type matured middle aged couple to understand its real quality..

From start to finish, you will absolutely fall in love with the Taj Lake Palace.

we were traveling throughout Rajasthan in the beginning of April and stayed in some beautiful hotels - none of which compared to the Lake Palace. Although the water level was a little low, the entire experience was unparalleled. From the pick up at the ferry dock, with it's ornate wrought-iron, and welcome - they take you by boat to the hotel. On your arrival, you are greeted with a warm Indian welcome: someone escorting you off the boat with a large ornate umbrella, shielding the sun. You almost forget about your bags as the porters quickly take them inconspiciously up the stairs to the lobby. As you entire the beautiful marble lobby, with it's beautiful flower arrangements, you are welcomed with bindi, a welcome beverage, bottles of water and a personal greeting from the manager. You are then escorted to your room, through the beautiful courtyard where flowers are abloom everywhere. Our room was a lake view with a fantastic view of the city Palace. The spa was unbelievable - we had the spa for 2 for 2 hours (and with the dollar somewhat competitive at the time - the price was far less than you'd pay anywhere in the states). what an amazing experience and quality service.

we ate in both the Indian restaurant as well as the roof top - both are great (the food downstairs at the indian restaurant is fantastic) but the view on the roof top is amazing - the City Palace is lit at night and is magical.

i have nothing but wonderful things to say about this hotel and would wholeheartedly recommend it - the only pitfall will be that you will not want to leave ....

If you want to stay somewhere that makes you feel like royalty - this is the place! A representative from the hotel picked us up at the airport in a beautiful, clean car with refreshments waiting. Upon our arrival at the "dock", we were greeted by warm, friendly staff and refreshments once again. A boat ride then took us to the hotel, where we were greeted by our "butler". He showed us the grounds, restaurants and then to our rooms. We had two rooms and they were beautiful with amazing views. Everything about this property was magnificent and beautifully maintained. Every want, need and desire was met. We had children with us and wanted to have an opportunity to take them on an elephant and camel ride - our butler even arranged that right at the shore only a boat ride away! We had meals at the cafe and the finer dining restaurant and all our meals were wonderful. We also arranged for dinner one night aboard the Gangaur - and that was truly one of the most memorable evenings of the entire trip, it not my entire life - luxury in every sense of the word - musicians, personalized menu, drinks, etc. I also had a couple of treatments at the spa and again I cannot say enough about the attentiveness and services - amazing! I would love to come back here again someday!
