stayed here for a night or two while touring India....This is Mr. Oberoi's dream property...it is a truly magnificent presence on the water with total top of the line luxury accommodations and service. The restaurants were wonderful and the rooms were luxuriously appointed...Again, you receive world class service that is both highly personable and professional....This puts it above what you could expect from a similar property like the Ritz Carlton or a Four Seasons in the US. During our tour, we stayed in a number of Oberoi hotels and unfortunately this one fell a little short in the efficiency of the performance of its staff compared to the others. Sometimes it seemed they were not working as a team but rather as individuals who would often stop by our table or not to check on our dinner's progress...A failure to provide timely wakeup calls to our group was a near catastrophe for our departure needs....But overall, it is still an incredibly beautiful property with a gorgeous setting and would certainly be a great place to stay for anyone in Udaipur...

Can't really add any more, this is a truly magical hotel starting with the boat ride to the hotel on your arrival. The staff where amazing, they all knew your names from the moment you checked in and nothing was too much trouble. The attention to detail was fantastic and the buffet breakfasts amazing.

Visitors to this site may think that could all these reviews be right? Well you had better believe it!! From the time you alight from your car to the traditional welcome, the refreshing welcome drink, stepping into your room, you cannot fault anything. It was all seamless and the best was that you were escorted to the comfort of your room to be checked in. All the staff were so helpful and attentive and are so well trained that they remembered your particular likes and dislikes at breakfast etc. I would particularly like to mention Mr Abhimanyu Lodha and Ms Roshni Shankar who ensured that our stay was unforgettable. Where else would the chefs come out to inquire whether the cuisine was to our liking and were ready to cater for any off the menu items that we requested.
We had arrived at the hotel from another hotel within Rajasthan and the difference in our experience was immediately apparent. I have stayed at the Oberoi in Mumbai over the last 25 years and I thought that was Premier Cru Classe to use the wine terminology but The Udaivillas surpasses that.
My wife and I cannot wait to go back. Oh and I forgot to mention the Spa. Sheer bliss! The best Spa I have ever been to and I have been to quite a few at leading hotels and resorts all over the world. But dont just take my word for it...............go on, book a stay at the Udaivillas and experience it for yourself. Thank you to one and all at the Udaivillas!!

Room Tip: I think that each room will be excellent but the further away from the reception will help you walk...

Ohhh, what a beautiful sight pulling up to the front of this oberoi hotel walking into a spectacular lobby and being greeted by the manager. I love that. It makes your stay personnel and welcoming. We were having a jaw on the ground moment after we recovered. We where taken to our glorious room which was beautifully decorated with a lovely bathroom and a small garden courtyard that over looked a main pool. I think we where in our room 10 mins a and left to take some lovely sunset photos of the hotel which over looks lake Pichola. We where only in this hotel for 2 nights but they where all so enjoyable. From breakfast in the morning in a beautiful breakfast room with amazing staff that where so friendly and interested in what you are doing and where you going and what can I do for you. We also had dinner out on the patio with lovely entertainment the food was just perfect. It was so lovely at this hotel we didn't want to leave but journey must continue next stop Oberoi Rajvilas Jaipur :-)...

For those who remember the 007 film "OctopXXXy" from 1983, not one of Bond's best and one whose name will not be accepted by the censor police at Trip Advisor, it was partially filmed on this lake in Jaipur. After a 45-minute drive from the airport, you transfer to a launch (not quite Venetian Cipriani standard but it floats) to take you to the Oberoi Rajvilas, which borders the lake (as opposed to the Taj which sits in the middle in all white splendour). The trip across the lake takes about 15 minutes (life vests are provided) and then you're treated to the ornate beauty of the Oberoi - more gold leaf than St Petersburg !

You're met at the dock and whisked to reception and made to feel very special. We were upgraded to a suite with its own swimming pool. Eat your heart out, Bond !

We were there at the end of August still monsoon season which spoiled it a little and meant outside dining was limited (we made it once in four nights).

However, the suite, food, service and sheer luxury made up for the odd shower - my wife was even given a tour of the kitchens.

The local peacocks and deer are hand fed twice a day and we would recommend the short walk to see them. We were shown round by an octogenarian who was there when tigers were pitted against wild boars for the enjoyment of the Maharaja and his entourage, literally in a gladiatorial pit. Fortunately, those days are gone but the realism remains.

Local tours are limited - there's the Maharaja's City Palace and a separate visit to gardens but hardly Kew and the palace is a tad tired. Don't bother with the crystal collection for which there is a separate and exhorbitant charge.

A three-night stay would probably have been optimum and why oh why when you're paying top dollar do hotels charge for wifi access ? Spolis the mood entirely.

We didn't get to see the Leela which is also perched on the side of the lake but it had a better class of launch and looked impressive from a distance ! Next time...

Room Tip: Some rooms are quite a walk from reception and restaurant(s) so you might like to ckeck out the dist...

You arrive by boat which is delightful. The setting of the hotel is a real WOW. The welcome is nice and in room check-in painless.
The public spaces of the hotel are entrancing, one area is lit only by candlelight at night. There are pools and fountains galore and acres of garden to wander in and to explore.
The room was very nice with a good bathroom. Minor points:
1. There is a window onto the internal corridor, yes it has a blind but it is not enirely opaque with lights, we kept the curtains closed, easy solution but be aware.
2. If you don't close the wooden gates to the pool or lower the blind people swimming by can see into the bathroom.
3. The pools in front of the rooms/suites are shared. You have your own access but once in the water it is a long pool which stretches the length of 10 rooms. This is not a problem but if you go out onto your sitting area naked people in the pool and at other places in the hotel grounds can see you. Keep your swimsuit/trunks on.
The pool outside the rooms is however great, you can get a really good long swim and then be straight back to your own loungers or your room.
There are two other pools, one which we used by the spa which is very nice. Pool service is good, water, cold towels, complimentary suncream and frozen grapes almost hourly! You can also get a snack/light meal here.
Pools are heated in winter we were told but were not heated when we were there. This was not a problem it was not that cold.
The hotel has an indoor and outdoor restaurant and there is a Rajasthani dancer who comes in every night to perform at obout 8pm. It is a shame that there is only one menu covering the two restaurants and although the food is really very good the Oberois in New Delhi, Shimla (both), Mumbai and Jaipur have even better food.
Service is good but just a tad too much. Staff should not make guests feel bad if they eat out. But I suspected there were some trainee staff about who were desperate to please and to get good reviews. The best service appears effortless.

Room Tip: Rooms 102-120 face the lake and have the shared pools in front of them so you can swim along and vie...
