“Simply Stunning”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2013

Stayed here for 3 nights with a group of friends and we all opted for the Rooms with Semi Private Pool. The hotel is fantastic as almost all Oberoi properties are. The rooms are very spacious with beautiful decor. Love their bathrooms. The rooms were overlooking the lake. Having a pool with an entry through your back door was amazing. The best part was that on either side of our room we had Deepika Padukone and Ranbhir Kapoor staying who were there for shooting of their forthcoming movie 'Yeh Jawani Yeh Diwani. so it was quite surreal to share the same pool with movie stars. The food we found was not THAT good, we preferred Ambrai Restaurant which is superbly located. The spa was great too. Overall an awesome 3 days in Udaipur.

Room Tip: Must opt for the Lake View rooms which open to a Semi Private pool.

Beautiful hotel, great location, great service and truly exceeds 5-star rating. My family including children and grandchildren enjoyed the stay at Udaivilas very much and would not forget the experience.

Beautiful Hotel on Lake Pichola. What a stunning property. We had a Premier Lake Facing suite with a semi private pool and views of the animal habitat on the property. We woke up and saw peacocks, antelope, deer, and various birds from our patio. And spectacular views of the CIty Palace and other beautiful hotels nearby. The staff was super and very helpful. The room was beautiful and comfortable. The Spa was very nice with great things to offer.

Dear Guest

Thank you for reviewing our property and expressing your appreciation of the property and our hospitality. We are proud to preserved and look after the wildlife which once occupied the Maharanas of Udaipur. On the hillock where The Oberoi Udaivilās is built, a quaint 200-year-old hunting lodge called Bara Mahal was built by Maharana Fateh Singh. His son Bhopal Singh, used Bada Mahal extensively as a retreat during hunting expeditions.
We hope to have the pleasure of your return visit on this historical site.
Safe travels.

We had booked this for our last day of the trip (almost like an icing on the cake after a 3-night stay booked at Trident). The travel agent had given us a good deal for a room only compared to the direct hotel rates as well as for breakfast-inclusive package. Of course, the best offer was also steep but we really really wanted to experience this!

We were extremely pleased with Trident (posted a separate review) and hence the expectations were already raised with Udaivilas.

We were greeted with a really nice welcome upon arrival - rose petal shower as soon as you enter the hotel & rose ice-tea at teh reception. Great start :)

Our room was a premier room with a semi-private pool (R#106). The room was decent-sized and had sofa+chairs, king-size bed & a verandah couch. We had also requested for a baby cot. The bathroom was also really lovely, well-done & had a small tub too. They had placed baby toiletries also & my infant was so delighted to see these special things for her & quickly packed it all in her suitcase :)

The best part of the room was the pool. The lake-view was simply amazing. Pool chair/bench were also provided & we had a lovely time relaxing on those. However, water cannot be regulated here and hence it is not possible to take a dip during the winter months.

The property is really really huge & beautiful. The spa was also tempting & there was a separate pool for those who availed spa treatments. All the lawns were lovely. The pool was also nice & big & temperate-regulated. There was also a kids playing area with slide, swing see-saw etc but it was not lit-up so suggest you visit it during sunlight time only. The property is really impressive and itself a good one hour exploratory walk.

We had dinner at the open restaurant Chandni & really enjoyed it. We had ordered a rajastani thali between the 2 of us & really loved it. We also ordered another starter (cant recollect its name but it was awesome). Friendly chef Deep personally attended to us. Payal, Aadishree (cant recollect her unique name but definitely begins with A) & DJ were also nice & friendly.

We had breakfast at the Suryamahal restaurant. You had to choose from a variety of combo options (wish it were simpler - just one all-inclusive buffet package). Food was decent but not as lovely as the dinner if I can be honest. For longer stays, i would recommend you opt for breakfast at the adjoining Trident hotel. Both Udaivilas & Trident are within the same premises - Udaivilas on the left & Trident on the right after you enter the main gate - but still distant enough for individual privacy.

There is also an open lake-side dinner option available which was recommended (had a set menu in a romantic ambiance with live music etc) but we did not avail because - 1. it was too cold at nights for our infant. 2. restricted food choice and 3. its cover charge.of 10k (too much for a couple dinner).

There is also Bara Mahal here which is co-shared with Trident. You can view peacock, deer & wild boars being fed here at 11am & 5pm. There is a lovely Roop Sighji here who will take you through a nice tour of the building & its history. We had visited this during our stay at Trident.

The staff were really good & their service pleasing. The best amongst them was definitely the young manager Abhimanyu Lodha. Really owe him a big thank you for the wonderful room, meal ideas & warm hospitality.

Some low-lights - The guy who attended us up to the room spent (can I say wasted) a good 30-min on unnecessary details about the room facilities (lighting, bathroom, security, etc). Wish he had spent that time talking about the hotel areas (pool, spa, lawns, Bara mahal, kids playing area, etc) which were far more interesting & we discovered ourselves.
Bigger low-light was that most activities that were complimentary at Trident (camel-riding, horse-riding, pottery, magic show, puppet show etc) were on paid-basis here. At least that what was conveyed to us by our check-in escort! Glad that we had finished those at Trident during our 3-nights stay there. The reason this gets my thumbs-down is because you are paying 4 times Trident rates but its free at Trident & not at Udaivilas! Also, the rates for the boat ride was pretty high compared to that of Trident. It did not impact us at all since we did not avail of these & were in Udaivilas on the last day just to experience its grandeur & make the trip memorable :)

Overall, we had a wonderful stay. Its a really beautiful property & pretty well-done & well-maintained. Perfect setting for that special holiday.

Room Tip: The premier room with a semi-private room is really nice. I would advice you to opt for those (small...

During a stay in Udaipur spend 1 night in the Oberoi Udaivilas (and another night in the Taj Lake Palace hotel).

The Oberoi Udaivilas is a fantastic hotel !
It is located on the lake border (nice view on the Taj Lake Palace hotel from the Oberoi garden) and the estate is very sizeable.
Due to the size of the estate it felt like the hotel was very quiet and not crowded at all (though during dinner it showed that there were a lot of people in the hotel).

Reception area is fantastic - very stylish. Reception staff was absolutely up to standard.
Other public areas are very nice and stylish too.

The pool area (we went to) was fantastic and service at the pool was just great (drinks, food and on top of that free suntan !).

The room was fantastic too. Very spacious, very stylishly decorated. Very nice bathroom, equally very stylishly decorated. Everything in the room was working fine and taking a bath and shower was a real treat - fantastic towels also !

Dinner at the hotel (indian food) at night was very nice (outside seating with a partial view on the lake) but from a food quality point of view, the experience at the Lake Palace hotel beat the Udaivilas one.

Now, having stayed at the Oberoi Udaivilas and the Taj Lake Palace I believe in a comparison it's a match.
Yes, the Lake Palace has more history and the Indian restaurant at the Lake Palace is top notch (probably one of the best indian restaurants we ever ate).
But, the Udaivilas also does have lots of plusses : the building is much more recent and decoration of the whole hotel - all over the place - is very stylish - albeit not having the Lake Palace 'historical' aspect.

When going to Udaipur my suggestion is to spend 1 night at the Taj Lake Palace hotel and 1 night at the Oberoi Udaivilas hotel. That's what we will when returning to Udaipur !

number 1 in udaipur without a doubt. we decided between taj lake palace and udaivilas and were glad with our choice. the hotel offers an amazing space, beautiful garden, you basically live in a wast palace in comparison to be stuck on a small island (with probably a lot of insects).

Beautiful hotel along the lake. The hotel has a great view of the city and lake palaces.
Service is fantastic, many photos opportunities, the domes and gardens are just beautiful.
Food was really good!

Room Tip: It is worth to upgrade to a room with a walkout pool and lake view.
