“Very good and very expensive”
Reviewed 19 January 2014 via mobile

This hotel is very beautiful and the staff is very nice. But irs also very expensive. For me, the difference between this hotel and other 5stars hotel isn't as big as the price differnce. But the location is perfect. You go whith a boat to the city, this is very romantic

There are many positives and some annoyances. We really enjoyed exploring the grounds and loved our room. The views, the environment, and the public and private spaces are quite special. We recommend staying here---especially after leaving a disastrous experience at the Devi Gahr.

The Oberoi has a great service, which may be a part of our annoyance, where you don’t need to wait to sign checks for your charges. You have dinner or a drink, when you’re done you get up and leave, and they charge it to your room with no tipping. This is very forward thinking for a hotel, and we didn’t have any problems with any “questionable” charges. Everything was as it should have been.

With that said, I have wonder if this service of not leaving a tip at signing has some consequences. We had an overabundance of service---or amount of conversation---for our comfort level. Each and every server, waiter, pool person, housekeeper, therapist, etc wanted to have a 3 minute conversation, literally, every time they came in contact with us no matter how many times they came in contact with us. While in theory these interactions should be a meaningful chance to connect, they were too many, rather scripted and insistent. In short, our personal time and meals tended to have a constant interruption of random scripted discussions. We even had each member of the housekeeping staff come by to meet us in the room.

If you’ve ever been on a cruise where “tipping isn’t included in the fare”, then you may have an idea of what this is like to have every person on staff come by to introduce themselves. We have no problem with tipping and we left an envelope for everyone, but after our experience it leaves me to wonder if the basic 15% service fee isn’t such a bad thing in order to have some peace.

In regards to the spa, skip the massages. They were more petting than massaging.

This is a just a critique...we would love stay there again.

This place is beyond one's expectations. The location. The property itself. The flawless service and attention to detail. The gorgeous rooms and beds to dream regal dreams!

From having rose petals strewn upon your head on arrival, to the pampering of every member of the staff.. the only negative is having to leave. I would run away from home and never return in an instant.

This was a fantasy land!

Room Tip: Take enough time to simply luxuriate in this once in a lifetime place... don't rush.

Just finishing a three day stay here. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with everything you could need. Well laid out bathroom and in room tea and coffee facilities were appreciated. We had a garden room with a small private patio which suited our sense of privacy. If you are going in warmer weather you might want a pool room some of which overlook the lake. However they lack privacy in my opinion. When we wanted to sit by the pool we used the spa pool and it overlooked the lake. The main pool does not. We ate at the outdoor restaurant overlooking the lake and although the nights were cold it was comfortable with plenty of heaters. A fair variety of dishes to choose from. The property is about 50 acres of pristine gardens, fountains and lakeside. Don't miss the hunting lodge on the property which i recall is over 100 years old and there are still deer, wild boar and other animals. Took a private boat ride around the lake at sunset which was delightful. Staff were always friendly and helpful but then i have come to expect no less from the Oberoi group.

You will indeed feel like living in a palace. Transport may be a bit issue (read expensive) unless you have arrangements. Food is great and spectacular service.
However everything is quite pricey. So be prepared

Room Tip: All rooms have a balcony/courtyard

A fairy tale palace with elegant pavilions and domes, courtyards, and lush gardens, all magnificently decorated - a gorgeous property!

The Chandni Resturant serves open air dinner (with music and dance) in one of the courtyards and the setting is beautiful. If you arrive around 9pm the main crowd will be gone or leaving soon (and. the musicians, too)

We shared a tasty rocket salad with goat cheese (1150 Rs) for starters. Some of the greens are home-grown, others come from local farmers, quality is excellent. Main course was an almond crusted lamb (2750 Rs) that we ordered to be served medium. While mine just barely passed my husband's meat was well done. The nougat glace miel (550 Rs) we ordered for dessert was a bit of a strange concept with no taste of chocolate whatsoever.

Service was attentive and friendly but we felt that with these outstanding prices food should be perfect.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us.

I am happy to know that you have liked and loved the property so much. Your words of admiration are really exceptional.

I have noted your feedback with respect to the food and have review the quality and presentation, collectively with Executive Chef . They are also reviewing how they can reduce the large selection of imported product feature on the menu.

Once again thank you for sharing your suggestions, as its helpful to get better. Please let me know if travels bring you and your family back to Udaipur or take you to another Oberoi destination. We will look after you well and create beautiful memories.

Simply Spectacular, Great location, Awesome Service, Great Rooms,

Did not try the Spa but was told its not bad at all. My suggestion, try the "Lal Maas" a Rajasthani Lamp Curry if you want some great Indian food.

My suggestion, perfect place to celebrate a special occasion ..
