We opted for the lake view room and found the upgrade well worth it. Waking up to Lake Pichola just outside our window seat is one memory of our trip that will always remain with me. The hotel staff were welcoming right from the start, and the room was large and beautifully furnished, as per the hotel's website. We ate at the restaurant a few times and found 1) the vegetarian options superior to the non-veg. ones and 2) breakfast, while good, was rather limited (no buffet).
We also had our laundry done here and our clothes came back clean, nicely folded, and ahead of schedule--all at reasonable charges. The rooftop views here are simply spectacular and the owners seem to take great pride in their property. Would definitely return.

This hotel has so many good reviews it was a surprise not having the expected stay. We were assigned a room outside of the main building. It wasn't comfortable nor pretty. The main building is gorgeous and the views of the Pichola Lake very beautiful. Food was average and the breakfast poor. The staff was nice and the wifi es free.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building

This is an excellent hotel, and I cannot find anything to fault about this hotel. The staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant is beautiful and looks out onto the lake. The hotel is within easy walking distance to all the main attractions. It is also worth noting that there are tip boxes by reception and upstairs by the restaurant, therefore they recommend that you use these rather than tipping individuals.

This place is beautiful. Me and my daughter stayed here 2 days. When we approached the place in the car, we thought we made a mistake, but the interior is very nice. Good restaurant with Lake palace hotel view and nice food. We didn't stay in a lake view room, but may be next time.

To me Udaipur is all about enjoying that old world charm & view of lake and palace. Everything else is secondary. And for that purpose, there's no better "budget" option than Jagat Niwas Palace. Unlike other "lake-view" hotels, this one is located right on the shore. Jharookha (bay-windows) allow for nice unobstructed view & nice breeze. Don't be disheartened if you don't get Lake facing rooms. There's restaurant and rooftop open for all where one can just seat and enjoy the view & breeze. The courtyard is quite impressive too. Just checkout traveler photos & you will get the idea. One more thing many attractions are just walkable distance from here - city palace, Bagore ki haveli, Jagdish temple. One can board boat from lal ghat which is right next to hotel. Either take a full round and return back or just drop off at Doodh talai (saves rickshaw fare ;))

As for food, we tried once & were disappointed. We arrived around Friday noon & were super hungry. For whatever reason though, most of the dishes we were interested in - soup & tandoor items - were not available. This is one of the reason for 4 star! But don't rule this one out for food. There is no dearth of options for good food in this area. I would rather recommend to try out various options in this area as they all offer different view of lake and palace. Highly recommended from our experience, Amrai restaurant & Jaiwana. Good food & great view.

Once again, highly recommended.

Room Tip: - Prefer lake facing rooms, if possible - If you don't get that, no issues. Enjoy the view from...

We had a lovely room overlooking the lake. The room was large, and had a seating area with bay windows. The beds were antique (or an antique style) which I loved. We were here two nights, and ate at the rooftop restaurant on the first night, overlooking the lake. What a beautiful setting! The staff was very friendly. On our last morning, I peeked into some of the other rooms that were being cleaned for new guests. They were all a little different, and all were well done.

We travelled from Pune to Udaipur on a motorcycle. Parked our bikes safely right in front of the hotel lobby, so was very safe.(No space for car parking though) The hotel is right besides the lake, thus, making for a fantastic view from the rooftop and the dining area. As for the room, we got an amazing deal. SInce it was off-season, they gave us a haveli non-lake facing room at the price of 1500 rs per night, whereas during peak season, this room costs 2900 Rs per night. It was a great deal indeed. Room had a king size bed with a cupboard and two tables. Toiletries were very clean. Staff was very very courteous. The restaurant is on the rooftop right besides the lake. Makes for a very delightful dinner with a great view of the lake and hotel Taj Lake palace. Only downside was the restaurant was pretty expensive. But that was the case with almost all restaurants in the area. Another downside was the AC was not that effective in the summer heat.

PS: We physically checked almost all hotels in the vicinity, but there was no match to this one that fit in our budget.

Room Tip: Take a Lake facing room if you can afford it.
