“So romantic and beautiful!”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

We spend 2 nights at the Shiv Palace, were there on Valentine Day. Loved everything about it except maybe that the room was not newly renovated and could have look better for the price we paid. But, still convenient and lovely. We took a package with room, breakfast, dinner and a couple of other things we actually had no time to do. Totally worth it. Breakfast was lovely with a view on the lake. (You can choose the view on the pool, it's up to you) Diner was very good and service was excellent. They reduced the amount of spice in or meals so we can enjoy it better. If I have a chance, I will definitely go back!

Received a good welcome on arrival. Staff friendly. Werent expecing much from the room as we had read the Palace rooms were disappointing (but the cheapest option in the hotel!) - but i guess its good to have lower expectations! room was perfectly adequate- small closed balcony with gorgeous sunrise view. room was clean, spacious enough, nice linen etc- was very comfortable. Went to their restaurant for breakfast which was a bit expensive but really delicious and great view. Staff friendly. The sunset terrace restaurant couldnt get better for lake sunset views and drinks- again- staff friendly. a bit expensive but such a fantastic setting- really worth it! had dinner there too- delicious food.we then got upgraded to a suite- which was really fantastic! dont know how much they normally cost but great space- private terrace, views etc etc!! would certainly recomend the hotel- even if only the palace rooms- how much time do u want to spend in your room in a town like that anyway? its not a resort- and to stay on palace grounds for a reasonable price, even if the room isnt mindblowing- i think its worth it. it was more than comfortable and certainly worth it!

Room Tip: ask for balcony and view if choosing palace room.

My wife and I stayed in November 2012 and initial impression was satisfactory. The room allocated to us lacked a few amenities as a result of which we were upgraded to a suite.
Imagine our shock when we discovered a rat in our room everyday for the 3 night stay we were there.Needless to stay the staff came and caught the rat on every occasion. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless they clean up their act.

A huge fort palace on the edge of lake Pichhola. It has various section although not much maintained but the king still lives there. Most of the area is open for visitors. We had poolside lunch and a fantastic cocktail party in the Jaana Mahal courtyard. The hotel staff had taken pain the arrange the event with 4000 candles, horses, bagpiper, jasmine etc.

I stayed at this Heritage property as part of my business trip. While the location is 5 star but rooms & other services could do a little more to match the ambience. One has to venture out of rooms in the evening/night to enjoy, you will only enjoy the resort if you choose lake view rooms as it is the marvelous sight seen. staff was polite, humble and co-operative We arrived at the ‘palace’ in late afternoon and it was as though we were interrupting the staff. They make you comfortable. This place is famous for being a location in the James Bond film Octopus. Some of the rooms are difficult to approach & need support. The Traditional welcome makes one feel great. Home made chocolate goodie in rooms are nice.

Room Tip: Lake facing room, not the ones that obstruct view. preferably on the floor above ground

We stayed at the Heritage Hotel the Shiv Niwas Palace in Udaipur, India. While the location is 5 star the accommodations were somewhat less than 3-Star. We arrived at the ‘palace’ in late afternoon and it was as though we were interrupting the staff. The front desk was aloof and unwelcoming. And this was before we asked to see another room. We were shown a room that was more suited to ‘maids’ quarters. It was on the front side of the property and looked more like a motel add-on. The room was small with a tiny balcony overlooking the driveway. We asked to see another room and were shown a suite which was at a much higher price but was very nice, and a second room with a private patio at the same price. We selected the second option. We were very pleased with the room and with the staff the following morning. We were within walking distance of the ‘real’ palace (where the current Maharaja resides) and the old city. We would recommend the property if only for its convenient location however if you can afford the suite do go for it. The sunset terrace is a great place for breakfast or dinner and offers a great view of Lake Pichola.

Room Tip: If offered a room on the motel side of the complex ask to change. The room on the interior are larg...
