“Discounted prices, discounted services”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

We had the unfortunate experience of taking two rooms here at summer discount prices on April 21st 2014 and had to put up with discounted services......the rooms were faaaaar away from main hotel in an annexe, the waiter at breakfast kept reminding us that we do not have enough cover, even though we were told that breakfast is part of the package, and reception staff kept misleading us about other attractions of the same complex -- saying we could visit them, the gate keepers there insisting we pay for the same -- a totally forgettable experience for the family especially the senior citizens of the group. Saving grace was the manager at the Bar who took time to explain the history and significance of this part of hotel.Shikabadi, the other hotel run by same management where we were put up next had ten times better staff commitment --so I guess it is individuals who matter.

Room Tip: Do not choose this hotel -- you would end up regretting the decision.

Though it's fascinating to stay on premises in the City Palace, i found the rooms really pokey, small and dated! seemed like they had not been done up since the 70s! If you want to stay in the palace, do stay at Fateh Sagar which is beautiful or ask for the rooms at Shiv Niwas around the pool. If you have the money...definitely the Leela over the Udaivilas. Leela has been done up so tastefully...the thought put behind every nook and corner is fascinating.
The food at Shiv Niwas ( the Moghlai) is very good. Do spend an evening by the pool. the setting by the pool is really nice.

Stunning hotel. Be sure to spend that little bit extra on a terrace suite. IT'S WORTH IT. Don't bother with the palace suites. It would be a waste of money considering the location you're in. Service is excellent. Alka, the receptionist is very friendly and helpful. Ask for her and she'll give you a great tour of the hotel.
Peace :)

Room Tip: Terrace Suite: Room 16 You won't be disappointed.

The rooms we were offered in this hotel can be likened to the Cuba or Madrid of Udaipur; once grand, now faded and peeling. We politiely declined the first room we were shown and were then taken to a larger, but equally shabby suite. Holes in curtains, paint peeling off the walls, rising damp, dirty bathroom drains, cracked porcelain. Staff were very friendly and understanding so no drama there, but the hotel was certainly not where we wanted to spend our final three days in wonderful Udiapur. We'd prepaid all our travel through Tribes in the UK and so, after paying out of our own pocket for a room at the Leela Palace (now that is really a great hotel!) and then returning home, we then approached Tribes to secure a refund from the unsatisfactory Shiv Niwas . We sent photographs of the room we'd walked out of in support of our complaint. The refund came, from Tribes themselves, very quickly. Very professional response and one that has secured us as future customers of Tribes. All the pre-trip advice was spot on. Every aspect of the air and land content worked like clockwork. Just this one room issue that we had to resolve ourselves, and then Tribes made good. Customer service lives!

Room Tip: The ratings above refer to the hotel. I'm sure there's better rooms available at this hotel...

Our group stayed here for three nights. The public areas of this hotel are beautiful and well kept. There is, in fact, royalty living on the premises. However, the hotel section has not been renovated since 1981. The lampshades were cracked, furniture shabby, and towels gray and worn. Although the staff was courteous and responsive, they were annoying and aggressive in seeking tips. The girl from reception who first showed us to our room stood there until we gave her a tip that she was satisfied with. There is an outdoor restaurant that is in a lovely, romantic setting, but the food is mediocre.

we planned this place to celebrate holi together, though Holi festival has holiday at several places, hotel had manged to have sufficient staff to service guests.

Place has great historical charm and royal feel, swimming pool is well maintained and classic collection at bar is awesome.

Proximity to all attraction place is great advantage staying at this place. one must try during Udaipur Visit !

Room Tip: all rooms are good, you can enjoy breakfast at terrace restaurant with lake view.

We recently stayed here for 2 nights. We were immediately impressed with the location, a part of the city palace and right next to the lake. It is within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Our room was great! It was very spacious and had a beautiful view. The whole hotel, inside and out, made us feel like royalty. The staff was very friendly. We didn't have any problem with getting a late checkout. Breakfast was great. The price of dinner was a little high, but the delicious food, ambiance and amazing views made it worth it. We would definitely return to Shiv Niwas Palace!
